Anna
“Are you crazy?” Stella asked after closing the door behind her. She had been watching Damon until he got out of ears’ reach. I was guessing she had listened to our conversation. Seeing Damon here was one thing, and another was him asking me to be a surrogate. But it was too good a deal to let go. My people would be free. After years of being slaves to the Blue Valley pack, they had the chance to be welcomed as pack members. As the daughter of the Alpha, it was my job to ensure that this became a reality. And I was ready to do anything to see that come into fruition. “Keep your voice down, Stella. He might still hear us,” I said calmly. Stella ran her fingers through his hair in frustration. She was pacing the room, the wooden floor creaking beneath her feet with each step she took. Damon’s last words echoed in my ears now. “Meet me at my secret cave tomorrow night.” We were going to mate there. There was no doubt about it. The thought of having Damon above me—his tall, dominating figure left me feeling cozy. His warmth against mine and his breath on my face. My body shivered in excitement. Even after everything he had done it to me—rejecting me and marrying his girlfriend, Sophie. I still wanted him. He was my mate after all. “Anna. You aren’t thinking of going, are you?” Stella asked. She stopped pacing and was staring at me now, her eyes burning with rage. “Stella. This is the chance to save my people,” I replied. “Don’t you see? I don’t have any other choice. I can use him to get what I want. As long as I am his surrogate, I can get whatever I want. And I can get him back too.” “Anna. You need to move on! He rejected you,” she pointed out. “And you think a baby is going to make him change his mind?” I clenched my jaws. She was right. And I hated it. I wasn’t sure that Damon would still take me back. Part of me still wanted him. I was hoping, praying that he would change his mind and realize that marrying Sophie was a mistake. But the other part of me knew that it wasn’t going to happen. Why? Because he loved Sophie more than he would ever love me. “I will carry his baby. And that’s it,” I said. “And he won’t hurt that baby or my people. Because the blood of my people will also be running in the child’s veins.” Stella shook her head and asked off. She had enough. There was no talking me out of this. I was going to do this. Because it was not just for me. The sound of a knock on the door snapped me out of my thoughts. My heart skipped a beat as the thought of Damon coming back to tell me he had heard our discussion struck my mind. I would be petrified if that happened. I swung the door open before the knock came again and was surprised by who was standing before me. “N—Noami?” I stuttered in surprise. Noami stood before me with a basket of fruits and a warm smile on her face. Her skin crinkled at the edge of her eyes as the smile brightened the gloomy situation hovering around. She was the last person I expected to see here right now. “Hello, Anna. Do you mind if I come in?” She asked. I was frozen to the door but I quickly moved my body and nodded. She flashed another smile and walked into the house. I closed the door behind her and turned around to find her staring at the little living room. “Nice place you got here,” she said. I scratched my neck nervously before answering. “It’s not mine. I’m just squatting with my friend, Stella,” I replied. “The pack would never let a slave own a property on this land.” Noami flinched before giving me a crooked smile. That was the rule here. “Well, I know you’ve been having a hard time,” she said. “So I brought you this to cheer you up.” She handed me the basket of fruits and forced a smile as I got the basket from her. “Thank you, Noami. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but why are you doing this?” I asked. Noami’s smile faded. She walked closer to me and held my shoulder. “I was on my way here when I saw Damon leaving the house,” she said. “I know it’s hard being rejected. I would never understand the pain you are feeling. But I am here to tell you that you aren’t alone.” There was a rustling noise behind Noami and I raised my head to find Stella’s head poking out the kitchen. She was eavesdropping. When our eyes met, she gave me a cheeky grin. “Thank you, Naomi. I’m fine,” I said. Naomi sighed and her hand slipped off my shoulder. “Whatever’s on your mind, you should do it,” she said before walking past me. I stared at the basket of fruits in my hand thinking of her words. She was right. Did this mean that she had overheard my conversation with Stella? My brows furrowed and I turned around. She was opening the door. “Goodbye, Anna,” she said, turning to me with a warm smile. I gave her a simple nod. “And you too, Stella,” she said, not looking back. And with that, she left. I sighed and stared at the basket in my hand one more time. Whatever I wanted to do. That summed it up for me. I had made my decision. *** The songs of the crickets filled the night air as I walked timidly through the darkness. The full moon’s silver light bathed my surroundings, its light serving as a tour guide. My heart was racing, the cave not too far away from where I was. I was going to do it. Nothing was going to change my mind. I arrived at the cave, the entrance dark as a wormhole. I halted at the entrance, second thoughts swimming in my head. There was no turning back from this. Before I could turn back, the sound of footsteps echoing made me freeze in fear. A few seconds later, a figure emanated from the darkness. It was Damon, he was shirtless and his naked torso shone in the silver light. His eyes were on me, a feeling of relief in them. His next words were more gentle than I expected. They were compelling. “You want to come inside?”DamonImpossible. That was the word. There was no way this could be happening. Isaiah staying with humans? No. It couldn’t be true. There had to be something more. There was something he was hiding, and I was going to the bottom of this. But first, I needed to get this family to safety. They were all in danger. “I’m sorry I took so long in the shower,” Isaiah said, grinning. “Oh. Don’t worry, breakfast is ready, you may have a seat,” the blonde woman said. My eyes darted to the kid beside me. He was terrified as he stared at Isaiah. He knew something was off about him. His father was seated at the table, a newspaper concealing his face. He was nonchalant, absentminded from the impending danger. The only one amongst the three who had the premonition of death was this little kid. “So what’s your name?” The blonde woman said serving me pancakes with eggs. “Uhh. I’m Damon,” I stuttered. She smiled at me. “Damon. I’m Daphne. And this is my husband, Adam and our son, Cole,” she introd
AnnaMy heart skipped a beat as I saw him. Rohan. He was back—standing in the parking lot like some lost cat. His face was drowned with pain and guilt. I couldn’t tell what happened, but I knew that he’d been through a lot. I gulped hard as a realization hit me. If Rohan was here, that meant that Damon was here with him. This was what I’d been waiting for. I was tired of running away. This time I was going to meet him. I couldn’t find him, but I knew that he was somewhere here. He had to be. “Anna, what are you doing?” Stella asked as I walked towards Rohan who stood frozen in shock. My pulse was drumming my ears, and fear gripped me, but I didn’t care. I was going to confront him and Damon. Right here and right now. If he was working with Damon somehow to make me end up back at the Blue valley, then I was going to make sure I stomped my foot on him as well. Nobody was making me go back there. “Anna. What are you doing here?” Rohan asked as I approached him. “Where is he?” I aske
DamonThe shrill cry of my phone ringing broke me out of my thoughts. How long had I been driving? Four? Five hours? I couldn’t tell. My mind was tuned in on one thing. And that was finding Isaiah. But my chances were growing slim. I looked up and saw the twilight breaking through the sky. Morning was approaching, but I felt there was still time. I could still catch Isaiah. I could smell his scent in the air. It was strong. It wouldn't be long now until I caught him. All I needed was a little more time, and then he’d be mine. My eyes darted to the phone that sat by the passenger’s seat. It was Rohan’s name on the ID. What was he doing? Checking up on me? That was pathetic for someone like him. I didn’t need anybody to look after me. I could do this myself. I was going to take down Isaiah. And he was going to tell me where he was. The morning sun shone through the windshield, almost blinding me. My body ached in pain from the fight that happened a few hours ago. Isaiah had wiped the
RohanTwo hours earlier. “Hold on Dayton, we’re almost there,” I assured, stepping my foot on the gas. We were back to my pack and I was speeding through the dirt road as fast I could. His blood was spilled all over my backseat, and I knew that would take a hell lot of scrubbing to get it off. He was groaning, twisting in pain as he fought to stay conscious. I wondered what Rebekah was going to say when she saw him injured. She may as well be done with me. I swerved the car into the parking lot and rushed out of the car. It was twilight and the sun was rising above me. I pulled Dayton out of the backseat and held him in my arms as I rushed towards the glass doors. “This is embarrassing,” he muttered as we rushed into the hospital. “Trust me. This isn’t embarrassing like it is to me,” I said as we stepped into the lobby. “Somebody help me!”That wasn’t a surprise. There was already a stretcher coming towards me. I placed Dayton there and before he left, he grabbed my hand. I looke
Anna“You’re awake,” I heard a voice say. I opened my eyes to find Stella sitting by the bed with a bright smile on her face. Her long wavy brown hair fell on her shoulders elegantly and her brown eyes were on me, lit with happiness. It was good to see her. Last night, I went through an emotional turmoil. The news of the twins had broken me. I was excited to have them, but the thought of Damon coming after them drowned every bit of happiness out of me. I was scared. Scared for myself and them. I was scared of this pack as well. When Damon chose to wreck havoc, there was little that could stand in his way. Caroline had assured me that she would talk to Rohan when he got back, but that didn’t look likely now. Rohan wasn’t back and I wasn’t sure of when he was going to be back. But regardless, I was happy that he was with Damon. Which meant that as long as he was outside the pack with him, I was safe. When he returned, there was going to be a lot of friction. I was scared to meet Damo
RohanGet up, Rohan! I told myself. We’d been destroyed by Isaiah, a vampire who was stronger than we all predicted. I was disappointed. If we couldn’t defeat Cassian’s second in command, how would we even stand a chance against him? It was a self reflection period, but at the moment a lot of things were happening all at once. The sounds of the police sirens echoed from the distance and Dayton beside me in a pool of blood. Damon on the other hand seemed fine, but to a few injuries. His jacket was soaked with the blood from the vampire attack. He was going to be fine. “Rohan. We need to get out of here,” Dayton called weakly. “The cops are going to be here.”I nodded and tried to pull myself from the ground, but my body wouldn’t obey. I was so weak and tired. “Just give me a second,” I said before forcing myself upwards. My body finally obeyed, lifting me off the floor and I rushed towards Dayton. Damon stood to his feet, a slight groan from him. He’d taken the most beating from I
