I stare into Kane's eyes longer than I should. He's patiently waiting for an answer. Except for our breathing, there's no sound. 

I take a deep breath and close my eyes. "A few minutes after you left me here, my phone rang. I received a text message from an unknown number, and I actually tried to call the sender, but the person was unreachable. The text said that I needed to check on you, that you were hurt. Emotions got the better of me, I wasn't thinking, so I barged into your office like that." 

I can't look at Kane. Everything I've done makes me look like a child, and this action was no better. 

"And what about the direction? Who told you where to run?" Kane takes my hand in his and squeeze
