LOGINSeraphina could not sleep.
She lay on the enormous bed with her eyes wide open, staring up at the gold-painted ceiling. The room was beautiful, warmed by a crackling fireplace and decorated with soft silk curtains. It looked like a scene straight out of a storybook.
Yet, none of it made her happy.
A single tear rolled down her cheek as she pulled the thick blanket up to her chin. Just a few nights ago, she was shivering on the cold ground beneath a tree. She knew she should feel grateful, but her mother wasn’t here to see it.
"Mom..." she whispered into the empty room, her voice breaking. "I wish you were here. I'm safe now, just like you always wanted."
The harsh truth hit her all over again—her mother was gone, and no amount of palace luxury could bring her back. Eventually, sheer exhaustion took over her sadness, and she fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.
The next morning, warm sunlight poured through the large windows. Seraphina blinked slowly, remembering everything that had happened: the scary forest, her healing blood, and the Alpha King.
A gentle knock sounded at the door, and a maid stepped inside carrying a silver tray loaded with fresh bread, boiled eggs, fruit, and warm milk.
"Good morning, little princess," the maid said warmly.
Seraphina lowered her eyes, shifting uncomfortably. "I just don't think I am one. Princesses are important people. I'm just a poor girl."
The maid sat on the edge of the bed and smiled gently. "Maybe that's exactly why you are important. Now eat, it's all for you."
The delicious smell made Seraphina’s stomach growl loudly. She reached out and took a bite of the bread. It was so soft and warm, nothing like the stale crumbs she had been scavenging for months. She ate quickly, finishing every last bite.
When she was done, she looked down, embarrassed. "I'm sorry. I ate too much."
The maid frowned gently. "As long as you live in this palace, you never have to apologize for being hungry."
Next, the maid led her into a large bathroom. Seraphina gasped. A giant bathtub sat in the center of the room, filled with steaming water and floating flower petals. For months, she had washed herself in freezing rivers, so sinking into the hot water felt like absolute heaven.
But as the maid carefully washed the dirt from her hair, a heavy lump formed in Seraphina's throat. Her mother used to wash her hair just like this while humming sweet lullabies. Tears spilled over her cheeks.
"My mother used to wash my hair," Seraphina whispered.
Without a word, the maid pulled the crying little girl into a warm, tight hug. It wasn't her mother's hug, but it was the first time since her loss that Seraphina felt truly cared for.
After the bath, the maid helped her put on a stunning, sky-blue dress that fit her perfectly. Standing in front of the tall mirror, Seraphina froze. The girl staring back looked clean, neat, and truly beautiful.
Just then, a firm knock sounded on the door. It opened, and Draven stepped inside.
The Alpha King stopped in his tracks, a genuine smile touching his lips. The dirty, terrified little girl from the forest was completely gone.
"You look beautiful, Seraphina," he said.
She blushed. "Thank you, sir."
Draven extended his large, scarred hand. "Come with me."
She slipped her small hand into his. As they walked through the grand palace halls, guards and servants stopped to bow. Seraphina noticed their curious looks and nervously tightened her grip on the King's hand.
"What if they don't like me?" she whispered. "Because I'm just an orphan."
Draven stopped walking and knelt down so they were at eye level. He placed a large, comforting hand on her head.
"Listen to me carefully, Seraphina. You are not less important because you were poor, and you are not less valuable because you don't have a famous family name. I care about the brave girl who saved my life. To me, you are everything a princess should be."
A wave of pure warmth spread through Seraphina’s chest. Looking into the King's golden eyes, she finally believed that she wasn't invisible anymore. She had truly found a home.
The bitter winter wind howled through the stone arches of the outer courtyard, blowing dark clouds of snow across the muddy ground. Torchlight flickered wildly against the tall stone walls as guards shouted back and forth, their iron armor clinking in the dark.Lord Garrick was breathless, his fat face bright red and covered in cold sweat. His heavy purple velvet robe was dragged through deep, dirty slush, ruining the fine gold embroidery along the hem. He panted heavily, clutching two wooden chests filled with silver coins against his belly as he tried to climb onto a tall black warhorse inside the stable doorway."Hurry up, you useless fools!" Garrick screamed at his two personal house guards, his voice high and hysterical. "Open the back gate! Cut the iron chains! If those wolf princes get down here, they will tear us to pieces!""They are already here, Garrick," a cold, deep voice echoed from the shadow of the main courtyard archway.Garrick froze, his hands slipping on the leathe
The quiet in the royal sickroom felt heavy and thick. The only sounds were the slow crackle of the fireplace in the corner and the wet, painful gasps of old King Draven trying to pull air into his weak lungs.Jaxon dropped to his knees right beside the bed first. All his pride, all his dark anger, and all his grand talk about taking the crown vanished into thin air. He grabbed his father’s thin, ice-cold hand with both of his shaking hands, pressing his forehead against the heavy grey blanket."Father..." Jaxon choked out, tears bursting from his eyes and soaking into the wool blanket. "Father, I am here! It’s Jaxon! Please open your eyes!"King Draven slowly fluttered his heavy eyelids open. His bright golden eyes were dim now, like fading embers in an old fire, but when he saw his sons standing over him, a soft, trembling breath escaped his chest.Kael knelt down on the other side of the bed, taking his father’s other cold hand. Lucan stood right behind Kael, holding Seraphina’s han
Chapter 54The guard wolf raised his trembling head, looking straight at Jaxon. "He called for you too, Prince Jaxon. He said he wants his sons by his side before he passes."The heavy silence that fell over the Great Hall was absolute. The remaining mercenaries dropped their weapons to the floor. The nobles stood frozen on the benches.Even though Jaxon was cruel, arrogant, and wicked, there was one thing in this world he truly cared about deep down in his dark heart—his father, King Draven. Jaxon had always strived for his father's approval, even if he sought it through dark and foolish ways.Hearing that his father was dying, all the cold, nasty anger vanished from Jaxon’s face. He turned pale as a sheet. His dark eyes went wide with pure sorrow, and his hand dropped away from his sword hilt."Father..." Jaxon whispered, his voice trembling like a frightened child's.Kael didn't say a word. He instantly wiped his bloody blade against his leather pants and slammed it back into its s
"Kill them all!" Prince Jaxon screamed, his voice echoing off the high stone ceiling of the Great Hall like thunder. "Leave no one standing! Kill the prince, kill his everyone and kill that filthy human girl!"The room erupted into total, bloody chaos. The heavy black-armored mercenaries poured out from the dark stone arches behind the tapestries. Their iron boots slammed against the marble floor as they ran down the steps with drawn swords, raised axes, and loaded crossbows. Women in fine silk dresses shrieked in terror, scrambling over the wooden benches to hide behind the thick stone pillars. Old pack nobles fell over each other, trying desperately to find a way out, but the massive oak doors remained locked tight with heavy iron bars from the outside.Jaxon’s mercenaries thought this was going to be an easy slaughter. They thought they were trapping three helpless people in the middle of a room. They were dead wrong.Kael did not flinch. He did not step back. His golden eyes lit u
"I object," Kael’s deep, powerful voice boomed across the giant room. The words cut through the heavy silence like a sharp steel blade slicing through thin paper. "I object to a thief and a traitor sitting on my father's throne."Every single person sitting on the long wooden benches held their breath. Nobody moved. Nobody dared to whisper. The entire room went completely quiet, so quiet that you could hear the soft crackle of the wood burning in the high iron chandeliers above.Up on the raised marble platform, Lord Garrick looked like he had just seen a ghost. His face went totally pale, turning as white as fresh winter snow. His heavy lower lip started to shake with pure fear, and his hands trembled inside the thick purple velvet sleeves of his royal robe.Next to him, Lady Aurora gripped Prince Jaxon’s arm so tightly her long silver nails dug right into his leather armor. Her blue eyes were wide, bulging out with shock and anger as she stared down at Kael."Kael!" Garrick finally
To the common people waking up in the cold streets, the sound of the bells meant one thing: the coronation day had finally arrived.Dawn brought a pale, watery sunlight that cut through the thick grey clouds. The air was freezing, so cold that a person’s breath turned into small white clouds in front of their face. But inside the high stone palace, nobody was looking at the cold weather. Everyone was moving quickly, running up and down the long hallways, preparing for the grand event in the Great Hall.Up in the grand dressing room of the east tower, Lord Garrick stood in front of a giant golden mirror. He was dressed in a long, heavy robe made of deep purple velvet, trimmed with thick white winter fur along the collar and sleeves. Around his waist was a broad belt studded with shiny red rubies, and a heavy golden chain hung across his broad chest.Garrick reached out with trembling, eager fingers, touching the smooth purple cloth. His heart was pounding fast against his ribs. For yea
