Chapter 7

Author: Blue Thing
Everything finally snapped into place. Every suspicion, every gut feeling—it all made sense now.

Noemi couldn't hold back anymore. She charged forward and slapped Ivanna. Twice.

Her whole body shook, fists clenched so tight her nails dug into her palms.

"So Daniel and I were just your little pawns?"

Ivanna shoved her hard. Noemi staggered—and then felt it. Warmth spreading between her legs.

She looked down. Blood. So much blood.

The bodyguards rushed in, yanked them apart, and hurried Noemi off for a check-up.

The old doctor squinted at the test results, frowning. "Miss, you can't treat your body like this. You're three weeks pregnant."

The grief cracked open, swallowed up by joy. She never thought she could get pregnant.

And now, she had something to fight for.

Noemi clutched the papers and bolted out of the room—only to see Ivanna fake-crying in Daniel's arms.

"Daniel," she sobbed, voice shaking, "don't let Noemi give me her kidney. She went crazy and attacked me. And..." Her lip trembled. "She's pregnant. With your baby."

Daniel's heart sank. His voice came out furious.

"I did everything right, and you still managed to trap me with a pregnancy." He pulled Ivanna closer.

"No, that's not it!" Noemi tried to explain, but the pain hit hard when she moved, tears springing to her eyes.

"Ivanna told me herself—she has kidney failure. I didn't push her. She wants mine."

For a second, his face shifted. Hope flared in her chest—then died as he sneered.

"Kidney failure? Seriously, Noemi? That's your excuse?"

"If you don't believe me, test her again. You—"

"Enough!" His voice cut like a blade. "Even if that's true, you STILL owe her a kidney."

She stopped. No more words, no more strength.

The pregnancy report slipped from her hand.

"Fine. I'll do it. Hand me the divorce papers. I'll sign."

Daniel didn't get what kind of game she was playing. He just nodded for his assistant to hand her the papers.

Noemi breathed hard, eyes closing as two years of chaos flashed through her mind.

Being his wife had always felt like living in borrowed time—like some dream she was never meant to keep.

Now it was over. Time to wake up.

"Goodbye, Daniel."

She signed without blinking and turned, dragging her broken body back toward her hospital room.

Daniel's chest clenched. Sharp and sudden. He grabbed at his shirt, confused.

Why did it feel like something was tearing inside?

He shoved the feeling down. Forced his mind to go blank.

***

The next day, the surgeries went ahead like clockwork.

Same hospital. Three people underwent the operation simultaneously.

Noemi's corneas—straight to Daniel. Her kidney—to Ivanna.

Lying on that freezing table, Noemi felt like her soul was bleeding out.

If she could do it all over again, she wouldn't love him. Not even a little.

Loving Daniel had destroyed her. Left her empty.

There was nothing left to give.

Before the surgery, she'd begged her best friend, Vera Mendoza, to get her out—no matter what.

Even if it meant dying, she never wanted to see any of them again.

***

Outside the OR, Juan stared at the two labeled containers pulled from Noemi's surgery.

One kidney. A set of corneas.

His chest tightened. Every buried suspicion locked into place.

It was Noemi. She'd given his boss her corneas.

He dropped to the ground, breath catching, frozen in shock.

After Daniel's surgery finished, he called out.

"Juan."

Juan stumbled in, eyes down. "Mr. Gomez... your surgery and Ms. Lopez's were both successful."

But Daniel's stomach twisted. He only cared about one thing. "Where's Noemi?"

Juan's jaw locked. He couldn't keep it in anymore.

He dropped to his knees, voice cracking. "Mr. Gomez... Mrs. Gomez gave you the corneas!"

Daniel, usually all ice and pride, completely snapped.

He ripped the IV out and shot off the bed, fists clutching Juan's shoulders.

"What did you just say? WHERE IS NOEMI?!"

"Noemi, what you just said... does that mean we—""Julian." She cut him off with a small smile. "I'm not looking for anything."Julian dropped his gaze, but his voice remained gentle. "Got it. Let me take you and Nina home."She'd texted Vera halfway through dinner, and like clockwork, Vera had sent Julian to swoop in.Once Vera got the full download, she was livid. "Seriously? He showed up again? Hasn't he wrecked enough already?"She went off for a bit, then snapped her head toward Noemi. "You're not catching feelings, are you?""No." Noemi's eyes iced over. "I'm not falling for that again."Her face shut down."I'm done living like that—lost, stuck in that black hole. That's not my life anymore."She thought Daniel would finally back off. Guy was all ego—hearing she was married should've been his cue to move on.But clearly, she'd given him way too much credit. The second she stepped outside, a guy swung around the corner and grabbed her arm.Daniel.He looked worse tha

Noemi took a breath and gave him a tight, polite smile. "Good evening, Mr. Gomez. Thanks for your generous donation. Tonight's dinner is just a small thank-you.""Noemi, what's going on..."He reached for her face. She blocked him without flinching."If you're not here for the dinner, Mr. Gomez, I can leave.""No—" Daniel pulled back fast, dropping into the seat across from her. "Let's eat."The food looked fancy, but Noemi couldn't force a single bite. She should've known. Should've double-checked the buyer. If she'd known it was him, she would've returned the money instantly. But the charity center still needed it.They ate in silence. His stare burned through her. She couldn't take it anymore."Mr. Gomez, I'll be leaving now.""Wait, don't go!"Daniel shot up and grabbed her wrist, tight. Like if he let go, she'd disappear all over again."Noemi, please... don't leave me."His voice cracked. Eyes rimmed red, tears barely holding back.Noemi looked at him, calm and stea

The charity event crushed it. Noemi's paintings sold way faster than expected. She stared at the live feed. "Why are they flying off like this? Over twenty just sold at once.""No way. Who's got taste and cash like that?" Vera blinked at the screen, stunned. She hadn't expected this kind of response for Noemi's first big release. She checked the buyer's account, then frowned, pulling out her phone to double-check. "Same account that dropped that huge transfer the other day.""Seriously?" Noemi leaned in. Guilt flickered. "He paid way too much. He's losing money on this.""He's fine." Vera waved it off. "If it bugs you that much, take him to dinner. Anyone throwing that kind of money around doesn't care about getting a deal."Noemi hesitated. "Okay. Set it up. I'll meet him in a few days."A small smile curved her lips, dimples just barely showing."Feels right to thank him in person."They locked in the dinner for two nights later. Noemi left Nina with Vera and booked a privat

Had Noemi already started a new life without him?Daniel's chest thudded. No way he was blowing this shot.He stepped in and flagged down a staffer. "Hey, I wanna buy a painting."She gave a polite smile. "Sorry, sir. Aitana's pieces aren't for sale. Exhibition only."Aitana.Daniel's throat tightened. His hand went clammy. Was that really her name now?He didn't push. Just nodded. "Thanks."If buying a painting was off the table, he'd find another way in.No rushing. He took his time, studying every piece.Noemi's talent hit hard. Nothing flashy—just raw, honest strokes that screamed with meaning. You could feel her in every line.If he hadn't dragged her down, maybe she would've made it big way sooner."Juan, track Aitana's recent moves."He skipped Montavia. Handed off work, then bought a place close to the gallery. For the past three years, she haunted his dreams. Her face was smeared with blood. Aventora's big corporate summit rolled in like clockwork. CEOs from the top 100 companies showed up—every one of them a powerhouse. But all eyes zeroed in on one guy."Mr. Gomez, welcome."The host grinned, leading Daniel to a front-row seat. Not far off, the reception crew whispered behind their clipboards."Wait, that's Daniel Gomez? Gomez Corp's chairman? He's way hotter than the pics. Can you imagine being loved by someone like that?"The girl beside her rolled her eyes and flicked her forehead."Please. You saw the ring, right? He's been married forever. But his wife's been MIA for, like, three years. People say she's sick, but no one knows for sure."Right in the middle of it all, Daniel sat calm, stealing glances at his phone—his lock screen lit up with a girl's glowing smile.Three years. He hadn't stopped looking for Noemi, not even once. Still nothing.Halfway through the summit, they called him up to speak. In just three years, Daniel had turned Gomez Corp into an

Daniel scanned the room. Noemi's presence still clung to the air like a whisper. He slowed his breath, closed the window, drew the curtains. That's when he saw it—a red smear on the sheer fabric.Frowning, he looked down. The bandage on his palm was bleeding through again. He peeled it off, dabbing at the cut with a tissue. Calm. Focused.Noemi would come back. She had to. He needed to keep this room just the way she left it.Then he saw it—a notebook peeking out from under the pillow. The cover was pristine, like it meant something. He hadn't planned to open it.But his fingers moved anyway. On the first page, a delicate line of handwriting read:[This book is to record the one I love most.]That one line shattered him. Daniel doubled over, sobbing like a kid.He flipped through the pages, hands shaking.[Mom said I can finally marry Daniel! I've dreamed about this forever. I kept thinking about every time he looked out for me. I'm not just the little sister anymore—I get

The whole ride home, Daniel was buzzing—grinning like a fool, already picturing him and Noemi back together. Happy. Fixed. He swore he'd make it right this time, never let her hurt again. Then Juan's message hit like a truck.[Sir, the guy says Mrs. Gomez's photos were all edited. We can't trace her with these.]His brain short-circuited. Ears ringing. He called Juan, voice tight. "No way. They were on her mom's phone.""I had a tech look into it," Juan said, low. "They're composites. All of them.""What about the call? She called her family."Daniel's throat clenched. Metallic taste at the back of his tongue."Probably a voice modulator."The line went dead. Daniel hit the floor, dazed. Crushed."How could it be fake?" he choked out. "All of it?" His mind spun.He grabbed his head, fists pounding against his skull, like he could beat the pain out."Noemi, you're not dead. You're not fooling me. No freaking way..."Bloodshot eyes, twisted rage."You don't affect me. I do

"Daniel? What brings you here?"Samantha blinked, surprised—but already putting the pieces together. He'd barely shown up since marrying Noemi. The family hadn't said much—he was blind, and yeah, everyone knew the marriage wasn't exactly built on love. They gave him space. They'd thought a childhood match would work out. Guess not.Samantha's heart ached for Noemi just thinking about it.They'd waited so long for his sight to come back, hoping it'd fix things. Instead, it all fell apart.Daniel caught the mix of emotions on her face and hesitated. "Samantha... can I see the messages Noemi sent you?"She pulled out her phone, scrolling through the chat. "She sent me a video once. And some photos. Here."Daniel's chest tightened watching the girl in the video. Two years. That's how long it had been. She still looked like the Noemi he remembered—just thinner, paler. Light makeup, but her skin looked washed out. Her clothes hung off her, collarbones sharp."Mom, Dad, Daniel and I
