She was right, though. He was flexing. Aaron had yet to meet someone who was a better shooter than himself. All those math classes he took while at university had some purpose, after all. He used his brain to make crazy, impossible shots. It wasn't often that he showed that off when he wasn't in a fight for his life, though.

“You're good,” he said, coming up behind her, putting his hands around her waist.

“I watched you in Sartis Est. I'm well aware that you're better, maybe even better than Keira.”

“Let's hope we never have to find out.”

Aria put the gun down, clearly more afraid than he was that she might shoot him by accident, and turned around in his arms. She looked down, unable to meet his eye.

“Being around me almost definitely means you will, Aaron,” she said, taking his hands off of her waist and leaving him behind.

He blew out his cheeks. He'd meant to reassure her that he could t

Aria watched Troy’s eyes go to the chessboard. She smiled, like she always did when he managed to slip a personal question past her. Troy was sweetness itself. The perfect prince nickname was deserved through and through. They never quite got personal exactly, or rather he didn’t, but Troy listened to Aria. He was the voice of reason in her head when she felt like losing her shit. He got into her head somehow, had been working on her for months before she finally broke and told him. About the grief, about the way she wanted to feel Dean’s warm blood on her hands, but mostly about how much she missed her mom’s warmth, Ethan’s stupid grin and her father’s easygoing but strict demeanor. If it really did come down to it, she could do worse than Troy for a king, a partner. “Regretfully, I do not. I always meant to learn, but I never could quite make myself.” The truth she was burying, even from herself, was that Aria and Aaron had talked about playing together many, m

2019, July 1st The war may have ended in Warlanda, but the truth was Dean and Troy were merely shifting battlefields. Dean had taken Warlanda, becoming its regent and almost immediately declared war on Sartis Est. Troy wanted to go for her, to be with Aria like he told her he would be, but the rumours that Diane was still in play, alive somewhere in Warlanda, kept him in the country that was trying to take his head. If only he could find her and place her on the throne, he could stop Dean in his tracks. Troy felt a twisted sort of relief knowing that Diane might be with Dean. Taking out King Edward was one thing. Hell, even Troy had considered taking him out when he was looking for ways to end the Warlandian Wars the first time. But Diane was a no go. Dean wouldn't hurt her. She was the only thing left of his humanity, the only thing still tying Troy and Dean together as brothers. This knowledge, this irrevocable bond, gave Troy hope, made him keep loo

“Well, you're the woman I feel that way about now,” he said, looking at her tenderly. He stepped back, bowed just like he had that night, held out a hand and asked, "May I have this dance, Your Majesty?" “You may,” she said, placing her hand in his. He placed one hand against her head and laid her head against the crook of his neck. The other hand went to her lower back as he swayed with her to the soft melody flowing through the grand ballroom. “I could dance with you this way.” He spun her around and pulled her back to his front. She gasped in surprise as he molded his body to hers, pulling her into him harder than that night at the club, more forcefully, before letting his hands travel down her body and finally settle on her hips. “Or this way,” he whispered against her neck, “forever.” When the dance ended, he took a firm hold of her hand again, pulling her through corridors, rushing her past people and almost bumping i

2019, December 24thAaron almost sat straight up when he awoke to her next to him playing with his hair. Instead, he closed his eyes right back and paid attention to her touch. She hadn't touched him in weeks, and it felt incredible.“I know you're awake, you know,” said Aria. Aaron smiled and took her other hand in both of his and kissed it.“Well, I don't. This is what my dreams are like, so I can't be sure.” Aria rolled her eyes, but she gave him her hand willingly. When was the last time she did that? “If you don't get up now, I'm leaving.”Aaron grabbed her, pinned her down onto the bed and said, “Stay,” before jumping out of the bed and going to lock the door. She sat up and laughed. “Are you expecting someone?” “Bart, Emily, Troy. It's anyone's guess who it might be this time.” Her smile fell. “I can't speak for your houseguest, but he's not coming this time.”

(Bart) She looked up at me, her eyes swimming in tears. That look meant something different to me now, cut me differently now. I just wanted it gone. “I fucked up, Barry. I fucked up so bad,” she said, wrapping her arms around my waist. I knew the feeling. I was fucking up right now. Even knowing that holding her wasn't okay anymore, I just couldn't walk away. My arms tightened around her. “Tell me what happened,” I said, feeling myself get sucked into the force that was Aria Maine. “Aaron didn't do anything wrong after all. It was me. I did it. I messed it up. I ruined us. I ruined the perfect thing that we had in Sartis Est. Should have had.” So did I. I fucked it up too. But she wasn't crying about me anymore and she shouldn't be. Seeing the state that she was in, I couldn't tell her after all. I
