Aria's POV

"Drew!" I yell, leaving my seat and running into his open arms. My brother holds me to himself, laughing as I tighten my arms around him, drinking in his cologne, my head to his chest. This is one of the rare times I get to admit my brother is taller than I am.

When I pull away, I look up at him and smile again. Is it weird that I only saw him this morning before leaving for school and I'm acting like I haven't seen him in months?

Maybe.

But that's how it is for my brother and me. I wonder what he's doing here. Maybe he's here to see Dad? I try not to frown at the disturbing thought. Dad had really cut off Drew's allowance. Mum's search for a job made the tension back at home heighten. They aren't speaking. I hate thinking of how bad things have become ever since the Monroes waltzed into my family.

A warm hand over my face, brushing the strands of my hair brings me back to the present. "So, you're the infamous Jason Monroe?" Drew's eyes flick to Jason.

I turn around and st

LILYI wake up to the feeling of tiny, sticky fingers brushing hair away from my forehead. My eyes snap open, and for a second, I'm totally disoriented until I see a pair of wide, curious eyes staring down at me."Oh, Shit!" The words leave my mouth before I can filter them out. I hear a muffled chuckle from the doorway. I scramble to sit up and look behind the little guy on my bed to see Elizabeth watching us with a soft expression.I heave a sigh and look back at the boy staring at my face. "Hey?" I say, taking him in. He's got messy bedhead, and pajamas that are a little too big."Hey," he says. Oh Lord! I don't know how to act around kids. Especially when they're this little and this cute. He must be... what was it Elizabeth called him last night? "You must be Jace," I start. "I'm Lily.""I know. Mommy told me about you a long time ago."She did? "Ummm... what did she say about me?" "That you're my big sister? And you're pretty and you love to play video games."Oh, wow. "It's

LILYElizabeth's dining room feels too big, the ceilings too high, and the silence between us is heavy with eighteen years of stuff we haven't said. "So, how is Jenna? Is she well? Did she... did she take care of you well?" Her voice is tentative, like she's walking on eggshells."Jenna was... well Jenna." I smile a little, then gaze down at my meal and sigh. The salmon looks expensive, and I was so hungry after having only breakfast and throwing it all up this morning. But now, staring at the steam rise from the plate, my stomach knots up. After being served a whole tray of dinner, I can't find my appetite. It's just... gone.I think I'm overwhelmed or something. I didn't know that my biological mother was this rich, nor did I know that she owned this kind of a place. I also didn't think she'd take me in and be this kind and doting. I feel her hands entwine with mine over the table and I look at her. She's gorgeous, really. Even with the tear-tracks, she looks polished. Her eyes ha

LILYI find myself standing in front of the place I've called home since I was a kid. Only, it doesn't even feel like home anymore. I'm not sure I can recognize the outside of Jenna's apartment. The paint that was always so fresh is peeling now. It looks different. I have to check the number on the door again to make sure it's really her home. Then I brace myself and knock. I hear footsteps and I hold my breath. Once the door opens, I see her face and I release my breath. She looks... stressed? Thinner than the last time I saw her. Her well-layered hair is frizzy, sticking out at odd angles. But... that's not my business, anyway. It's not the reason why I came here. "Hey," I say, my grip on my suitcase handle tightening. She stares at me. "Lily," she says. "I'm so glad to see you. How have you been? Are you okay?..." Her gaze drops to my suitcase and she raises a brow. "Did you come back to stay?" As if. "I need something from you," I tell her, keeping my voice as flat as possible

AIDEN"Do you know where she is?" I ask Jason the moment I'm face-to-face with him. He just glares at me. Because he thinks this is fucking funny. I try again, my voice grit and gravel."Do you know where my girlfriend is?" He arches a brow. "Your girlfriend? The one you ended things with? Or... you're dating again,"A low growl emits from my throat. My vision is tunneling. He's the captain and goalie, but he knows not to mess with me. All that energy... It's all on the ice. He’s good at blocking pucks, sure, but when it comes to natural strength, of course he knows he's no match for me. I could snap him in half and he knows it.I know I look and sound like a broken record. I know I’m a mess. First of all, I broke up with Lily, the only girl who'd ever been there for me and seen me more than just a hot jock. The same girl who helped me sort out things with my parents, just because she cheated.I fucking overreacted. My pride took the wheel and I drove us both off a cliff. And I knew

LILYMy stomach drops straight to my feet. I scramble toward the living room, until I'm standing where Aria and Drew can see me. I can't just stand in the shadows. I can't just let Drew take all the blunt of Aria's rage. "What," I whisper when her eyes snap back to mine. The air in here feels thick. Like I'm trying to breathe underwater."Don't 'what' me. Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me I didn't just figure this out on my own."I'm sweating. My palms are clammy, and my legs are shaking so hard, I think I might actually collapse. Drew finally looks at me, panic written all over his face... his eyes are wide, searching for a lie we haven't rehearsed... but I don't give him the relief of eye contact. I can't look at him. I look at Aria instead. My best friend. My best girl. The girl who trusts me with everything."I..." My voice fucking cracks. I swallow hard, my throat feeling like it’s lined with sandpaper. "Aria, please...""Please what?" she snaps. "Please don't be mad that you slept wit

LILYI try to avoid her eyes. "Enough about Aiden and me already. I need you to help me pack. I can't be here when he gets back."Aria shrugs, finally listening to one thing I've said since today. She sighs and goes to get my suitcase. I start shoving clothes in it, not even bothering to fold them. Aria helps pack a few of my shoes, undies, and my makeup kit. The suitcase is filled to the brim when she zips it up, the fabric straining against the zipper."Here, you're good to go." She smiles, patting the bag. I glance around the room, and the emptiness is already trying to creep in, but I haven't packed all of my stuff. I still have clothes in the wardrobe. A picture of Aiden and me sits on the table very close to the bracelet he got for me that I've pulled off my wrists and dropped.I can't believe this is my life now. Sure, months ago, when Aiden started acting aloof, looking through me instead of at me, I knew something was wrong. Did I make a mistake by not talking to him about i
