Vanya POV

I stood in front of my bedroom mirror, adjusting the emerald green dress I had chosen for the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce awards ceremony. Tonight, Goddess Jewelry was nominated for "Best New Business" along with four other companies, and I was more nervous than I had been since my first exhibition.

"You look beautiful," I said to my reflection, practicing the confidence that Athena had taught me. Six months ago, I would never have imagined myself attending a prestigious business awards ceremony as a successful entrepreneur.

My phone buzzed with a text from Richmond: "Good luck tonight! You're going to win for sure. Can't wait to celebrate with you afterward."

I smiled reading his message. Richmond had been such an incredible source of support, especially during the difficult weeks after my workshop was vandalized. The security guards that the city had provided were still protecting my business, and I felt much safer knowing professionals were watching out for me.

Tracy POVI stood in the middle of our engagement party, wearing the most expensive dress I had ever owned, and I wanted to scream. This was supposed to be my night. This was supposed to be the party where everyone celebrated Bernard and me, where all our friends saw how happy and successful we were together.Instead, every conversation I overheard was about Vanya Reed and her stupid jewelry business."Did you see that Goddess Jewelry won Best New Business at the Chamber of Commerce awards?" one woman was saying near the champagne table."I heard she's going to be in New York Fashion Week," another replied. "Can you imagine? From housewife to fashion week in six months!"I gripped my champagne glass so tightly I was surprised it didn't shatter in my hand. This was exactly what I had been afraid would happen. Even at my own engagement party, Vanya was still the center of attention. The party was being held at the Country Club ballroom, and it had cost us twenty-five thousand dollars th

Bernard POVI stared at the stack of red envelopes on my desk, each one stamped with "FINAL NOTICE" in bold letters. My hands were shaking as I opened them one by one, reading demands for payment that I couldn't possibly meet. The office supply company wanted eight thousand dollars. The equipment rental company wanted fifteen thousand. My biggest supplier was threatening to sue me for thirty thousand dollars in unpaid invoices. The worst part was the letter from my landlord. If I didn't pay three months of back rent by Friday - twelve thousand dollars - Fredrick Construction would be evicted from the only office space I could afford.I pushed the bills away and put my head in my hands. Two weeks had passed since I vandalized Vanya's workshop, and instead of feeling better about getting revenge, I felt worse than ever. The attack hadn't solved any of my problems. It had just made me feel like a criminal while my business continued falling apart. My phone rang, and I saw it was Tracy c

Richmond POVI was sitting in my penthouse office at six in the morning, staring at the security footage from Vanya's workshop vandalism and feeling rage build in my chest like nothing I had ever experienced. Three masked men had destroyed months of her hard work in fifteen minutes, and I was ninety percent certain that Bernard was behind it.Yesterday, when Bernard had approached me at the restaurant trying to recruit me to sabotage Vanya's business, I had pretended to consider his offer while secretly planning to protect her from whatever he was plotting. But I hadn't expected him to move this quickly or this violently.I picked up my phone and called David Mitchell, the head of Sacramento's most exclusive private security company. David had handled security for my business empire for years, and I trusted him completely."David, I need a full security detail for someone immediately," I said when he answered. "Twenty-four hour protection, surveillance of her business and home, and b

Vanya POVI was sitting in my office reviewing orders from the New York boutiques when I felt the familiar warmth of my necklace against my skin. The feeling was different this time - urgent and warning, like when Athena needed to tell me something important immediately.I looked around to make sure none of my employees could see me, then touched the pendant gently."Athena?" I whispered. Her voice filled my mind with unusual intensity. "My daughter, I come with a serious warning. A major betrayal is approaching you from someone you trust. Be very careful in the coming days."My heart started beating faster. "A betrayal? From who?""I cannot see the face clearly, but it is someone close to your business, someone who has access to your plans and your trust," Athena said. "They are working with your enemies to destroy what you have built.""Is it one of my employees?" I asked, feeling sick at the thought."Perhaps. Or perhaps someone else who moves freely in your world," Athena replied

Bernard POVI sat in my truck outside the upscale restaurant where Vanya had held her jewelry exhibition, trying to build up the courage to go inside. This was probably the stupidest plan I had ever come up with, but I was desperate. Tracy's ultimatum was echoing in my head: fix our financial situation in four weeks or she was leaving me.I couldn't lose Tracy. She was the only good thing left in my life, and if she left me, I would have nothing. No wife, no successful business, no respect from anyone in Sacramento. I would be completely alone and completely broke. But to keep Tracy, I needed to destroy Vanya's business. And to destroy her business, I needed inside information about how it operated. That's where Richmond came in.During Vanya's exhibition, I had watched Richmond carefully. He seemed to have access to the restaurant's private areas, the staff treated him with respect, and he obviously knew a lot about Vanya's business plans. He was either sleeping with her or working c
