Aurora sat at the dining table, her fingers tracing the rim of her glass as she watched Lucian bring in the last of the dishes. It was a simple meal — roasted chicken, fresh salad, and warm bread — but the air between them was anything but simple.

Lucian set the plate down and glanced at her, his face softening just a little. “You haven’t been eating much,” he said, his voice gentle but laced with concern. “You need to take care of yourself, Aurora.”
