Winning Back the Wife

My fiance, Eric Powell, hopes that I can give up on my spot as a candidate and transfer him the 5% of shares I have in order to become the biggest shareholder in the company. He promises me that once everything is done, he'll host the grandest wedding of the century for me. I accept his conditions. But the next day, I notice his first love, Eunice Decker, posting a share transfer agreement on her social media feed. Eric's name can be seen scrawled on the person who's making the transfer. After a brief moment of shock, I leave a comment. "Now that you've already accepted his proposal gift, when can we attend your wedding?" Eunice breaks down on the spot. Then, she screams about wanting to jump off the 22nd floor. In order to coax her, Eric demands that I delete my comment immediately and apologize to Eunice in front of everyone. He also wants to pay Eunice my three months' worth of salary just to compensate for her mental health. All of my colleagues begin murmuring to each other, hoping to see me humiliate myself on the spot. I let out a cold chuckle. But not only do I apologize to Eunice, but I also take the initiative to transfer the project I'm in charge of to her. Having noted how understanding I am, Eric says to me happily, "I'll definitely make sure that you're the center of the attention in our upcoming wedding that will be held half a month later. On top of that, I'll also reward you with a honeymoon around the globe!" What he doesn't know is that our wedding will never exist the moment he decides to absorb my shares.

Chapter 1

The apology statement had just been posted for less than three minutes, and the comments instantly hit more than 100.

Eunice sent me a private message to mock me.

"Claudia Sawyer, apart from being luckier than me in meeting Eric earlier, what makes you better than me? I just had to shed a few tears in front of him, and he immediately made you apologize to me. So what if you're engaged to him? Unless I say so, that wedding's not happening."

After that, she flaunted the news that Eric was taking her out to relax and attached a photo of plane tickets to Parmisia.

I was about to turn off the screen when a notification popped up. Eunice had left a comment in the comments section.

"Everyone, please don't talk about Claudia like that. I'm also at fault."

Within less than a minute, Eric immediately replied to Eunice's comment, "Don't take all the blame on yourself. This was clearly Claudia's fault from the start."

Our colleagues also piled on, saying my apology statement didn't read like an apology at all, since the whole thing was just dripping with resentment and sarcasm toward Eunice.

Someone tagged me, but I ignored it.

Not long after, Eric called several times in a row, demanding an explanation.

Remembering how Eric would blindly side with Eunice no matter what, I calmly turned off my phone, putting an end to the incessant ringing.

Eric and I had been engaged since childhood, with an agreement that 5% of Powell Group's shares would serve as the betrothal gift for me to marry into the Powell family.

But ever since Eunice joined the company, Eric's attention had been completely fixed on her. Whatever she wanted, he would lay it all at her feet. Even a project I had worked on for months would become a gift just to cheer her up.

Before long, Eric suddenly came back. As soon as he walked in, he asked me to pack a few sets of clothes for him, saying he had to go on a business trip.

I thought of the plane tickets to Parmisia that Eunice had sent me and couldn't help but say mockingly, "Is it really a business trip or a vacation?"

Eric caught the dissatisfaction in my tone and assumed I was still upset about having to apologize to Eunice.

He frowned and said, "This was your fault to begin with, and you still have the nerve to be angry? If I hadn't mediated, our colleagues would've driven you out of the company long ago.

"This is a very important project for the company, so I have to go in person. Don't worry, as soon as it's done, I'll come back immediately. It won't delay the wedding."

Seeing that I remained silent, he breathed a sigh of relief. Thinking I had finally understood his good intentions and was no longer hung up on the matter, he seized the moment to ask what gift I wanted this time.

Eric would bring back a local specialty for me every time he traveled for work, and I'd be thrilled for days whenever I got those gifts.

But later I accidentally discovered that every gift he brought back was something he had first given to Eunice—things she didn't want or looked down upon.

Thinking of this, I replied flatly, "Anything is fine."

Seeing my lack of interest, he told our housekeeper, Diana Smith, to help him pack his clothes. He then turned to take the gift box handed over by the butler, Oscar Nash.
