#Chapter7

Inventory, Woo-hoo!

Lucille

I showed up at the store to do inventory. I hung up my coat and made my way to the stockroom. The store had closed, so it made it more accessible. I found Grayson in the stockroom.

I walked over to him. “I’m here.”

He stopped and looked at me. “You seem better.”

“Are you saying I had looked terrible?” I arched an eyebrow at him.

“No, but you looked unwell. You seem like you’re getting better.”

“I’m feeling much better.”

I smiled as he handed me a clipboard. Music played on the radio. I moved back and forth as I counted. I bobbed my head back and forth as I wrote the numbers down, humming to the song Sweet Caroline.

Grayson chimed in with me. We both sang as we wrote the numbers on the inventory sheet. We moved in the formation, moving towards each other. A song part came on as we turned and sang.

Grayson moved around me in a jazz movement. He set his clipboard down, taking mine from me. He pulled me to him while dancing with me, which was so much fun.

The song ended, and we were still moving. Another song played.

“Where did you learn to dance?” I asked.

“It’s a Gray thing. We all dance.”

Grayson smiled as I did the same. We continued to dance, making inventory fun. As the song ended, we were still moving. Grayson leaned down and pressed his lips to mine, taking me by surprise.

We pulled back, shocked. My heart raced as Grayson placed his hands on my waist, pressing his lips into mine. I wrapped my arms around his neck.

He deepened the kiss. The kiss heated as he picked me up, and I wrapped my legs around his waist.

He set me on a table as he continued to kiss me. His tongue flicked my lips. My lips parted as he slipped his tongue into my mouth. Our tongues swirled around each other as we continued to kiss.

Oh, my God. Grayson is kissing me, and I like it! What the hell, man? He pulled back and looked at me as I stared at him.

He stared at me with his steel-grey eyes as I sat there, speechless.

“Is Lucille Adams speechless?” He asked.

I had no words right now. I wanted Grayson to kiss me again.

“It’s funny. I wanted to kiss you.”

Grayson leaned close to me. I inhaled his cologne.

“It was everything I imagined it would be and more.”

My entire body heated. Grayson had a vibe, making me welcome desires I had never enjoyed.

He pulled back and walked over to his clipboard, picking it up. I slid off the table and picked up the other clipboard. I doubt I could focus on work now.

Damn, I knew kissing Lucille would mean something, but nothing like that. That would make focusing on my job a lot harder.

When I kissed her, I detected apple blossom. It must be the shampoo she uses. It’s my new favorite scent.

At one point, we broke for lunch. I got food from the deli. We sat in the back and ate.

“Inventory isn’t as bad as I expected it would be,” she said.

I chuckled.

“No, it’s not.”

As we ate, I took the plunge and asked her.

“So, I’m contemplating.”

“I realized I detected something’s burning.”

She grinned as I rolled my eyes.

“I considered asking you out.”

I glanced at her before looking away.

She dropped her sandwich. “Like a date?”

“That’s what happens when one person asks out another person.”

“Won’t it be weird with you as my boss?”

I furrowed my brows until I realized she’s kidding.

“Oh, ha, ha.”

I sighed. Lucille laughed.

“You’re something else.”

“That’s what people tell me.”

She smirked as I shook my head.

“What do you say, Luci? Do you want to go on a date with Mr. Fun police?” I asked with a crooked smile.

“Oh, I guess.”

She sighed as I glanced at her.

We finished our shift, leaving the store. I locked the door, walking Lucille to her car. It’s not right to let her walk alone at night.

Once she’s secured in her car, I watched her drive off. If I have sons, I’ll teach them to respect a woman.

I swung my keys around my finger and whistled as I got into my car, driving back to my apartment.

I can’t believe Grayson kissed me and asked me out on a date. The exchange blew my mind. I didn’t expect someone like Grayson Gray would become engrossed in me.

I pulled into the driveway and got out, walking into my house. Dad was up drinking coffee when I strolled in.

“How was work?” He asked.

“The best.”

I sighed as I kissed his cheek before going to my room. I flipped the light switch in my bedroom to find a dozen blue roses waiting for me. I picked them up, inhaling their scent. I took them into the kitchen.

As I put them in a vase, I looked at Dad.

“Who brought the flowers?”

“Someone left them at the back door. The person likes you if they bring you flowers.”

Dad smiled.

“There wasn’t a card with them?”

I filled the vase with water.

“Nope, but someone knows you well.”

He shrugged. Odd, but okay. Few people knew my favorite flower, except my parents.

One day, I’ll hunt down the elusive delivery person who keeps leaving blue roses at my door. I said if a guy gave me blue roses, I would marry that man.

I changed into my PJs and climbed into bed. I closed my eyes and dreamed about the man I would marry. In my dream, I saw three little boys running around loose. I glanced at a man playing with them.

It wasn’t until the little boy ran over to me. I looked into his eyes and saw steel-grey eyes. With that, I sat up, panting. What in the world?

Lucille, you had a dream.
