Chapter 5

Author: Embrace the Galaxy
A few days later came James’s son’s two-month celebration, which was, apparently, even grander than the one held when the child turned one month old. James wanted to prove to everyone that even after “losing his brother’s widow and son,” he was still loyal, righteous, and capable of carrying the family name with honor.

On the day of the celebration, a black velvet box was anonymously delivered into James’s hands. Through the security cameras, Kane streamed the entire scene to me in real time.

When James opened the box, his face instantly turned pale. Inside lay a single card that read, “Have you kept your secret safe?”

He snapped the lid shut, veins bulging at his temples as his cold, furious gaze swept across the crowd.

Hilary, curious, tried to peek inside with a coy smile. However, James shoved her away roughly, barking, “Don’t touch it!”

Hilary froze, eyes reddening with humiliation.

Watching his outburst on the screen, I couldn’t help but find it funny. Then, I gave Kane my

After the territories merged, I, of the Gerald Family, became the undisputed Godmother of Eustona’s criminal underworld.I took Xavier and returned to our family’s old fortress in North Atlantis. In the garden, Dad had built a small playground for him, with a carousel and swings. Bit by bit, the smile on Xavier’s face returned. He started going back to school, making new friends, and slowly stepping out from the shadows of his past. However, he never mentioned the word “Papa” again.Kane was always there with us. He patiently taught Xavier how to fight and shoot, and every night, he’d read him bedtime stories. The way he looked at me was no longer the respectful gaze of a subordinate toward his superior. There was something deeper, one I couldn’t quite understand. One afternoon, I was working in the study when Kane came in. He set a cup of hot tea by my hand.“Godmother, you should rest.”“Call me Pia,” I said, meeting his eyes.He froze for a second, the tips of his ears turni

“James,” I said coldly, my voice cutting through the noise of the banquet like thunder. “Did you really think no one knew about your lies?”My words struck him like lightning. His face went pale as he jerked his head up, eyes wide with panic.“W-What do you mean?”I stepped closer, staring straight into his eyes. “One year ago, during that explosion, you told me it was Luke who pushed you away and died in your place. You used that tragic story to sleep with your brother’s woman, claim his inheritance, and act like some noble soul fulfilling his last wish. It’s touching, really.”My tone was filled with sarcasm.James’s voice trembled. “What are you trying to say?”I gave a short, cold laugh and then signaled to Kane with a glance. He immediately understood and projected a video onto the massive screen at the end of the banquet hall. The footage was shaky, clearly taken secretly. The setting was a deserted factory. James and his twin brother, Luke, were trapped inside a shipping

The summit ended in chaos.News of my high-profile return spread across Eustona’s underworld overnight like wildfire. With that, James’s reputation plummeted instantly. The same mafia families that once fawned over him now avoided him like the plague.Along with Xavier, I moved into the penthouse suite of the most luxurious hotel across the river from his estate. From the floor-to-ceiling windows, I could see everything going on in his estate.Kane came in to report. “Three of James’s key shipping routes have been cut off. And his five most trusted capos have secretly pledged allegiance to us.”I nodded, gently swirling the red wine in my glass. What I wanted was to strip him of everything until he was nothing but a broken, abandoned man.Soon, James sent word asking for a private meeting. I told Kane to reject it.“Tell him if he wants to see me, he should bring Hilary with him. Also, tell him to come begging for forgiveness.”That afternoon, James and Hilary appeared at the ho

My heels clicked sharply against the marble floor, the sound echoing through the grand hall.I stopped in front of James, lips curved slightly as I raised my glass toward him.“Don Hill, long time no see.” My voice wasn’t loud, but it carried clearly across the entire banquet hall. “Gerald Family from North Atlantis has come to visit.”“P-Pia?”James’s voice trembled uncontrollably. He reached out a hand toward me, as if trying to touch me and make sure I was real. However, Kane stepped forward, smoothly positioning himself between us, blocking James’s hand.“Don Hill, please show some respect,” Luke said coldly, his tone carrying a quiet but deadly authority. “The woman standing before you now is the Donna of the Gerald Family.”The words ‘Gerald Family’ hit the room like a thunderclap.“My God… the Gerald Family from North Atlantis? They never attend the Alliance Summits!”“That woman… She’s the Donna? She’s way too young!”“I heard the old Don of Gerald Family only had one

The helicopter landed on the rooftop of my family’s old fortress in North Atlantis. On the helipad, Dad was already waiting. He wore a black suit, his posture straight and his presence commanding, even though age had merely carved a few lines of authority into his face. When he saw Xavier asleep in my arms, his brows furrowed slightly. He reached out and took the boy from me.“You’ve gone through enough.”That one simple sentence broke the wall of emotions I’d been holding back, and my tears spilled instantly.I followed Dad into the fortress. Everything was exactly as I remembered it. The long corridors were lined with portraits of past Dons, and the air was thick with the familiar mix of cigar smoke and sandalwood. It was the scent of power and home. The family doctor arrived quickly and examined Xavier.“The high fever has triggered a pneumonia, and the whip wounds on his back are infected. But what worries me more is the psychological trauma.”Each word cut through my chest
