Chapter 25

Amber’s POV

“My attention was called from the Supernatural Vale by one of my closest friends. Something bad is happening there, and I need to go help,” I told Raymond softly.

His expression changed immediately, his hand tightening around mine. “Babe, you’re seven months pregnant. It’s too dangerous. I don’t want you caught up in all of this right now—you need to stay safe.”

His words pierced me because they were true. I wasn’t just carrying myself anymore, I was carrying our child. But still… I couldn’t ignore my people.

I took a deep breath and looked into his eyes. “Raymond, these are my people. My family. I have to go. I promise, I’ll be safe. There’s no war happening there right now, only unrest. I just need to help, and then I’ll come back.”

He pulled me into his arms, holding me so tightly it felt like he never wanted to let go. His lips brushed against mine before he spoke, voice thick with worry. “I won’t hold you back, honey. But please… please come bac

  • The Half-Life of a Werewolf   The Shadow of His Mother

Chapter 26 Amber’s POV I made my way back to the human world, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside me. I sat with Raymond that evening, my hands resting on my swollen belly after I told him what had happened in the supernatural Vale. He looked at me with concern. “But why is Damian that way?” he asked, his voice laced with frustration. I sighed deeply, memories flooding back—memories I had buried but never forgotten. “Because Damian has always been that way, Raymond,” I said softly. “Mean. Cunning. Envious. But he hides it so well that everyone else only sees the perfect son, the dutiful heir, the victim who always needed love.” I closed my eyes, and the past replayed itself in sharp detail. ⸻ When we were children, Damian had the talent of twisting stories in his favor. I remembered one night, maybe when we were no older than six or seven, when he sneaked into the food storage and spilled an entire barrel of honey wine. The next morning, when the Alpha came s

  • The Half-Life of a Werewolf   A shred of hope

Chapter 24Raymond’s POV I watched Amber’s face glow as she smiled at the screen, our baby’s tiny form moving inside her. The scan lit up with little details—the flicker of her heartbeat, the outline of her head—and then the doctor pointed. “And that’s her leg,” he said. I couldn’t breathe for a moment. A daughter. I was really going to be a father to a little girl. Amber’s belly had grown so beautifully round now, Seven months into the pregnancy. Five months since she had laid down her crown and walked away from her title to live with me. She only returned to the Supernatural Vale once—for Damian’s ascension ritual—the coronation they called it. It had been chaos at first, packs fighting for who would rule, but eventually Damian was chosen. Since then, our lives had been… normal. Ordinary. Human. And honestly? I loved it. No werewolf councils, no supernatural drama—just us. Just love. We even had a small wedding, just a simple ceremony with a few friends and my mother there

  • The Half-Life of a Werewolf   Divided Counsel

Chapter 23 When the heavy doors shut behind Damian, silence hung in the hall for a long moment. The sound of his boots had barely faded before the room erupted in low, uneasy murmurs. One of the younger wolves leaned forward, whispering harshly to his neighbor. “He speaks like the Alpha already. Did you hear him? He made it sound like it’s already decided.” An older she-wolf narrowed her eyes. “That’s Damian. Always so sure of himself. Too sure, if you ask me.” “He’s not wrong, though,” a younger voice argued. “He’s strong. When he speaks, people listen. That’s what we need in a leader.” Another elder slammed his hand on the table, silencing them for a heartbeat. His voice was gravelly with age but carried sharp authority. “Strength is not the same as leadership. Damian’s words burn hot, but fire consumes as much as it warms. Do not forget that.” A ripple of agreement ran across the older wolves, but the younger ones shifted restlessly. Some were nodding in quiet defiance.

Chapter 22 Amber’s POV “They said what? Why would they ask you to choose between me and them? Isn’t that cruel?!” Raymond’s voice shook with fury, but then it cracked, softer, almost pleading. “What did you choose? You didn’t answer them… right? Please tell me they found another way.” I met his gaze, my heart heavy but resolute. My voice trembled, yet held unyielding strength. “I chose you.” He froze. His chest rose sharply as if the air had been stolen from him. “You chose me… over your pack? Over your family?” I stepped closer, cupping his face. “You are my family. You and our unborn child—that’s all that matters. My parents cared more about power than their own daughter. I won’t let history repeat itself. I won’t let our child grow up without both her parents. She deserves love. We deserve love. Don’t I deserve, just once, to be held instead of always being the one holding others together?” A storm of emotion flickered in his eyes before he crushed his lips to m

  • The Half-Life of a Werewolf   The Luna’s Choice

Chapter 21 Amber’s POV “Honey, it’s been almost a week now. Don’t you think it’s time to return and hear what your people have decided?” Raymond said gently. “You mean… my pack?” I asked, though I already knew what he meant. “Yes,” he answered firmly. I took a deep breath, my heart heavy. “You’re right. It’s time I go back and hear their verdict. I only hope they choose to approve of us.” Raymond’s eyes searched mine. “But… what if they don’t, Amber?” His words pierced me, leaving me speechless for a moment. What if they truly don’t? The thought wrapped around my chest like chains. “They will,” I finally whispered, forcing conviction into my voice. “They have to.” Back in the supernatural Vale, I stood tall as I gathered the pack before me, ready to face whatever judgment awaited. Thousands of eyes pinned me in place, my wolves—our wolves—waiting for me to speak. I could feel their doubt pressing against my chest like a storm. I swallowed hard, then lifted my chin.
