The whole palace is under surveillance by Lavi and his men. Omegas are scared for their lives because the Prince had reportedly not slept all night. In the past, several assassins tried to kill him but the Prince managed to kill them all but he let this one live.
Everyone is dreading the Prince’s next actions. Lavi is at the breakfast table, his mind obsessing over the girl whom they caught last night.
Her sweet smell is not leaving him and his urge to claim her is only growing. Last night, he was not injured and yet, several marks appeared on his body. A shoeprint is etched on his neck at the exact spot where the girl was stepped on. All night, he thrashed around his room, breaking things out of anger. His body and mind were at odds.
His body wants her. His mind hates her.
“You will die by the hands of your mate.”
The words are still swirling in his mind. A prophecy which has been haunting him all his life, not letting him live in peace. The throne he craves so much will slip away if he dies and he will never be able to achieve what he set out to do.
An omega places a plate of chocolate truffle in front of him. Lavi stares at the dessert with a cold expression.
She smells like chocolate.
CLANK!
He throws the plate against the wall, breaking it to pieces. His eyes flare up in anger, scaring everyone around him.
“I will question the prisoner,” he declares and marches off towards the dungeon.
Inside her cell, Anna is wide awake. She can smell the damn mint scent from a mile away, rushing towards her. Her heightened hybrid senses can feel his anger and conflict.
The cell’s gate slams open and Lavi enters. Anna does not move but stays still, not acknowledging him.
Lavi grabs her arms and pushes her against the wall.
“What the hell is your name?” He growls in a menacing tone. “Tell me!”
Anna remains silent, her lips curled into a grin. Lavi shakes her hard, his hatred for her seeping through.
“Who sent you to kill me?” He demands.
“Whoever wants you dead,” she taunts him.
Lavi’s eyes narrow at her but he scoffs.
“You have only two options,” he states. “One, you tell me your name and accept my rejection. If you do that, I will let you go.”
“Lies,” Anna states outright. “You will kill me if I accept your rejection. You are only trying to reject me because if I die as your mate, you will be in eternal pain and suffering! Your whole existence will cease and you will live as a shell of your former self.”
Lavi leans close to her. Anna feels his presence awfully near her, her heart starting to race. A strange urge to kiss him again rises in her and she loathes herself for it.
The stupid mate bond is trying to weaken her and she wants nothing more than to rip it apart with her bare hands.
“I can live with pain,” he whispers. “Because if you die, the way to the throne is clear for me.”
His voice is full of malice which sends a chill down her spine. This man is ready to do anything for the throne, kill anyone in his way to get what he wants. He is mad, bad and dangerous.
Just like her.
“Your second option is,” he goes on. “Is to stay here and become my slave. You are from the Black Jacks. If I tell the world that you are my mate, the guild will come for you and they will kill you for betraying them. I hope you know what happens when an assassin finds their mate, right?”
Anna freezes in shock. How did he know about that rule? Only the inner Black Jack members know it!
“Once an assassin finds their mate, their whole group is killed,” Lavi reminds her. “Not only will you die but so will the group you trained with. They will suffer if I reveal our mate bond to them.”
“You will stay here and suffer for the rest of your life,” he threatens. “I will make sure that you suffer a painful existence. You will beg me to reject you and once you do, only then will I end your life!”
It is the only way. By keeping her captive in the palace, he can keep an eye on her. If she tries to kill him again, he can make her suffer. The mate bond will keep her chained to him and his life.
Anna thinks of her options. She failed to kill him once and he will be defensive.
But he is also her only key in finding the last killer of her parents. If Lavi can be taken down, his master will come out of hiding.
“Fine,” she whispers. “I will stay here as your slave.”
Lavi keeps up his indifferent stance but something inside him is gripping his heart so tight as if trying to rip it out. This girl came into his life only for one day and he already wants to possess her.
Anna is also in a dilemma. She is supposed to kill him but somehow they ended up in kissing and now, she is his slave. He is villainous and arrogant with a thirst for power which is reminiscent of the men who killed her family. They also had the same bloodlust as him.
Yet, she cannot forget the way he kissed her last night. The moment their lips had toughed, she felt a fire burning within her which momentarily engulfed her senses, making her crave for more. Her heart is adamant on killing him but her soul is tormented, wanting to be near him.
She strengthens her resolve. Lavi lets go of her and says, “From now on, you will be known as Vanya Ikvir. If you dare to tell anyone about our bond, I will make sure that the guild hears about it. You are nothing but a slave, got it?”
Anna turns her head to her right in defiance but Lavi grabs her chin and forces her to face him. Even though she cannot see him, she can feel the raw anger seething through his veins.
“Got it?” He challenges.
“I am an assassin of the Black Jack and I will always be such,” she retaliates. “Slave? Let me see how long you can keep me here.”
Lavi’s nostrils flare at her arrogance but his competitive spirit has been invoked. Both of them are out to hunt for each other and this chess game is going to end in one of their deaths.
“Let the game begin then,” he snarls and lets go of her before marching out of the cell.
Anna’s fingers clench into a fist, her heart more determined than ever.
“Let the game begin,” she whispers.
A few miles away from the city of Pir stands a magnificent castle perched on the rocky slopes which look over the entire city. It is distinctly far away from the capital in the isolated area, high above the realms of the ordinary people. There are rumors that gods themselves used to reside in that castle once but after they had fallen, the Lycans took over their home. The towers are of rectangular shape with smaller turrets on them. A flag containing the twin wolves’ emblem of the Faikan royal family stands on one of the turrets, signifying their dominance over the country.Inside the castle, the walls are decorated with shining golden and blue tapestry. The floors are sleek and spotless to the point people can see their faces in them. Chandeliers are hung high above in the ceiling, shimmering brightly while the long corridors are spacious and well
Lavi’s eyes are closed and he is sitting crossed legged in the middle of the garden. He is concentrating hard, his posture straight. His shirtless torso is visible under the scorching sun. Beads of sweat roll down his skin, his abs glistening in the light. The bulging muscles are tense as if rigid and still. The breeze slowly swirls around him in a fixed rhythm. He slightly turns his head to the right and the wind blows in that direction. Then he tilts to the left, taking the wind in the opposite route. A gentle whirlwind of wind starts to form in front of him, spinning like a small tornado but fixed to one place. He is about to multiply the intensity of the win when the familiar scent of cocoa comes his way. Suddenly, the wind stops and vanishes, leaving him there. Even though she is far away, he can still smell her.
“Is she alright?”She can hear a soft voice, perhaps a girl. Anna stirs and slowly opens her eyes to find herself in an alien chamber. The face of a pretty girl in her mid twenties appears in front of her. The girl has short cropped ginger hair with sharp features and small freckles on her nose. She is not so tall but there is an elegant vibe swirling around her. Anna also notices that the girl is wearing a tiara with the emblem of the Costas. This must be Guinevere Costa, she realizes.Guinevere is studying the slender dark haired girl with interest. Next to her is an elderly man in his seventies with snowy white hair. He is wearing a long, white coat which means that he is the castle’s healer.“I am terribly sorry!” Guinevere tells h
“So you are from Soloma?” Guinevere asks Anna. “Yes,” Anna lies. “I am from Soloma. I was an omega in the palace of Emperor Theodorus until he was killed in the war between Ezealyra and Sloria.” A month ago, the mighty kingdom of Ezealyra had invaded a small snow capped country named Sloria. The Ezealyrans thought that they would be able to defeat Sloria but the small nation is stronger than they anticipated. In the war, the Emperor of Ezealyra, Eduard Visserion and his Empress were killed by the Duke of Sloria, Dmitri Daskov. It turns out, Dmitri Daskov is actually Alexei Visserion, the long lost prince and heir to the throne of Ezealyra. He is also Anna’s brother. Anna knows very well that her brother is looking for her but she has vowed not to reunite
Darkness shrouds the lands with its blanket. A moonless sky is looming over the earth, watching and hiding the secrets of the night while everyone sleeps. The vast desert is silent and cold with no signs of life outside the city. Everywhere one looks, there is nothingness coupled with the signal of something eerie as if something bad is about to happen. In the midst of the long night, a figure slowly walks on the rough sand. Its large eyes are shining red and sharp canines are visible in its mouth. A giant wolf is sniffing the air, its bushy tail wagging in the air as if it has found its way. The lone wolf is walking on and on without tiring until he reaches a pyre where several other wolves are waiting for him. The wolf is easily the largest one among the pack with dark gray shades and a white streak on its head. An omega hurries forward and drapes a robe over the wolf. Slowly, the wolf starts to transform until it takes the appearance of a human, a man in his fifties. He has fin
“AHHHHHHHH!”Latifa’s screams echo in Anna’s ears, stunning her. She falls to the ground, clutching her arm which lies limp.“My hand!” She screams. “My hand!”Lavi glares at the woman who is crying in front of him. Blood is rolling down his forehead and several gnashes are visible on his shirtless torso. He felt every bit of the whipping the nameless girl received, each blow harder than the last. Yet, he remained still for a while, hoping that she will cry for help.To his shock, she did not even wince. In fact, she calmly tolerated the beatings as if she was used to it. He was more affected by the torture than she was and it only infuriates him even more.
*A while ago*Water splashes out of the pool as a naked figure rises from it. Every part of Lavi’s body is glistening with water, shimmering under the dim lights. His muscles are hard and bulging as he wipes his body with a cloth. The wine colored hair is damp and dripping, his face slightly flushed as he stares at himself in the mirror. Lights from the candles are reflecting on his eyes, turning them into shades of orange and green as he keeps on mulling over the person who is responsible for his misery. He grits in anger as the nameless girl’s face keeps on popping in his head. Everything about her is intoxicating to him, ruining his mind. He cannot get over her, his mind reeling over how his heart felt as if someone was wrenching it apart when he saw the lowly servant hitting her. But he was angrier at her indifference.
“Anna, are you alright?” Thena asks in a worried tone. The heart attack did not harm Anna in any way at first but after a while, she started to become pale and feverish. Her temperature is also increasing as if she will fall sick.Anna tries to lift her hand in an attempt to feel stronger again but her hand is shaking a little. She is fatigued and is also having a headache. The dingy cell is only making her feel claustrophobic in that state.“The pain in my chest is gone but I am feverish,” she groans. “That f*cking prince got me good this time.”“A few more rounds of that pain and he will kill you for sure,” Thena nods.“I am not so worried about it,” Anna sighs. “It will pass.”
