My fingers worked on the clasp of my cloak as I got ready. I hadn't wasted a second after leaving Ronan’s room. The sense of dread hadn't left completely but it had been replaced with an urgency I couldn't shake.

As I walked past the kitchens, I caught the scent of rosemary and freshly baked bread. Then laughter—childish, care free—spilled through the open doors of the dining hall.

I met Ansel sitting with the twins, trying to keep up with whatever games they were playing whilst feeding them their breakfast. She looked up as I entered, immediately noticing my attire and seriousness of my disposition.

“You’re going somewhere?” she asked, wiping her hands as she stood. Her expression shifting from curiosity to concern. “Is everything alright?”

I smiled. It was tight, didn’t quite reach my eyes. “I have some inportant business to take care of. It’s… nothing serious.”
