Third Person's POVCassian's dark gold eyes were locked onto her, his pupils trembling with suppressed emotion."Trista," his voice was a jagged rasp, like he'd been swallowing glass. "Don't look at me like that. Please."Trista met his gaze, her expression a flat, calm void. "The way I'm looking at you isn't even a tenth as bad as the way you looked at me when you were tearing my life apart."Cassian's composure finally snapped. He lunged forward, his hands clamping onto her shoulders like iron shackles. His Alpha aura was spiraling out of control as he begged, his words coming out one by one. "I know I trashed everything. Just give me a chance. Let me fix our mating bond!"Trista laughed. She laughed until her eyes crinkled, yet the herbal scent of her pheromones turned to sub-zero ice."Give you a chance?" she asked, tilting her head with a taunting edge. "A chance to set up a new nest for Samantha? To keep your little 'secret' tucked away in another luxury apartment?"The strength

Third Person's POVBy noon the next day, Cassian rushed over to the healing center only to find out that Trista had taken a leave of absence.Across town, at a brand-new luxury complex, Trista was finishing up the paperwork on a new place for her parents.Ulva looked at her daughter, her eyes full of worry."Mom, don't worry," Trista said, trying to ease her mind. "I originally wanted to open my own practice, but Xander talked me into staying at Sheptran. Even though his family runs the place, my salary and bonuses are huge.""But you're about to be single," Ulva said, still not convinced."You're going to have a lot of expenses. You need to save your money; we don't need a villa this fancy.""Living like this is the whole point, Mom," Trista insisted."Once I'm officially out of my place, I'm moving in with you. I'll bring in the money, Attwater can focus on school, and you and Dad can just garden and hang out at the park. We're going to live however we want. We move in May."With Al

Third Person's POVCassian stood up, his eyes locked on Trista. "Grandpa, let them go. I'll handle your rage myself."Alaina interjected quickly, "Alistair is still Cassian's uncle, after all."Cassian shot the Gamma a warning look, and the guards finally stepped aside, though they clearly weren't happy about it.Alistair led Trista and her parents out of the estate with a calm, arrogant stride.Cassian walked them to the door and whispered to Trista, "Go home and rest. I'll be back as soon as I settle things here."Trista didn't even give him a sidelong glance. She climbed straight into Alistair's car with her parents. After watching the taillights disappear, Cassian turned back to the house.Humphrey rushed over and whispered in his ear, "Howard's men dumped Samantha in the 'No Man's Land' out by the border. Our team is heading there now to intercept."Cassian dismissed him with a wave.Inside, Alaina slammed the lineage report onto the table in front of him. "You lied to your own b

Why are you taking a house call this afternoon?""Priscilla was a friend of my grandmother's," Trista said with a small smile. "Her wolf has been restless lately, and she's not sleeping well. I'm going over to help her stabilize."Xander placed a file on her desk. "This one is from Europe; they land in L.A. next week. Get familiar with the case."Trista gave him a thumbs up. "Your network is seriously impressive."Since joining forces with Xander, she had connected with quite a few high-ranking werewolves.Xander waved it off modestly. "Compared to the history of the Blade or Icepeak packs, it's nothing."Once Xander left, Trista grabbed the medical files and headed out to the Shadowfang territory.Evening, at the Ironthorn headquarters, Humphrey burst into the office, out of breath."Alpha Cassian, Howard has disconnected himself from the monitors. Third Person's POVElias let out a long sigh.Trista gave him a weak, slightly embarrassed smile. "Mr. Manwaring, that whole scene was pretty pathetic, wasn't it?""As long as you've finally seen him for what he is, that's all that matters," Elias replied. She had seen it, but Cassian was acting like a wounded, cornered beast, stubbornly refusing to let go.To this day, she still didn't understand what he was trying to achieve. After lunch, Trista returned to the healing center and spotted the familiar black Bentley parked at the curb from a distance. As Cassian stepped out of the car, Elias tactfully picked up the pup. Third Person's POVLooking at this group of greedy, low-life relatives, Samantha felt a wave of pure resentment. She pointed a finger at George and Angela. "George, Angela—if I hadn't risked Cassian ripping me to shreds six years ago to funnel money out of Ironthorn for you, do you think you'd own a house in a prime L.A. zip code? Do you think those two mediocre sons of yours would be in a top-tier academy? Every brick in that house was paid for with the blood and sweat I clawed out of Cassian's pocket!""The food you eat, the clothes on your backs, the kids' tuition—where do you think that came from?" Samantha shrieked. "Fine, call me names. Say I'm a social climber. But I did it all so this family wouldn't be rotting in the gutter anymore!"Angela didn't skip a beat, sneering back at her. "Save the sob story, Samantha! We're in this mess because of you. Give us the money to relocate now, or I'm making your life a living hell!"Passersby were starting to stare. Samantha gritted her t
