Calla was still at first.

Then, slowly, she looked up and locked eyes on the one face she prayed she wouldn't see this early in the morning. He stood in front of her in his perfectly tailored suit, looking like he had just walked straight out of a smugness catalog along with that infuriating smirk that always made her want to throw something at him.

"Oh, for fûck's sake..." Calla snapped, glaring down at the dark stain spreading across her white shirt. "You've got to be kidding me,"

"Accident," Norman said lightly, holding up his hands. "Relax"

"Really? Because last time I checked, you don't accidentally walk into someone carrying a full cup of coffee."

"Well," Norman said, tilting his head slightly, "I wasn't the one not watching where I was fûcking going."

Calla narrowed her eyes. "Excuse me?"

"I mean, you were the one who bumped into me and spilled coffee all over your beautiful shirt. So, technically, not my fault."

"Technically?" She repeated with a scoff. "Un-fûcking-believabl

Vernon didn't answer right away. But when he finally spoke, it was soft and filled with different emotions. "Then I guess I'll spend the rest of my life proving it wasn't."Calla's chest rose and fell rapidly as she turned back to the window, blinking away tears she refused to let fall. He thought it was simple. He thought it was that simple, but he didn't understand. "You know, I went to Bramble Hollow," Vernon said after a long silence. "The town you said you grew up in. It's really small and it wasn't hard to ask around for a little girl who lost her parents in an accident years ago. I went from house to house, especially the older ones who would remember something like that."Calla whipped her head toward him. "You did what?""I went to the police department, checked the old archives, and visited every newspaper office I could find." Vernon paused for a short while and glanced at her. Then, he continued. "But there was nothing. No record, no file, no article. It's like it never

"Th...the elevator. It wouldn't open. I've been pressing it for minutes."The cleaner turned to look at the elevator, still looking guilty for frightening her. "Oh, really? Let me see."He stepped closer and pressed the same silver button once. Just once and the doors slid open immediately. On seeing that, Calla's mouth parted in shock and her fingers tightened around her phone. For the past few minutes, she had been pressing the button over and over, almost breaking it, and nothing had happened. But now, with just one simple press, it opened like nothing was ever wrong.Calla stood there, speechless. The cleaner smiled awkwardly and glanced back at her. "Guess it's fine now, Ma'am. Power probably just came back fully. You have a good night, okay?""Okay," Calla replied, forcing a weak smile. "Goodnight. And... And thank you,"He gave a polite nod and turned back to his cleaning cart while Calla stepped into the elevator. She pressed the button for the ground floor and leaned back a

Calla sat at her desk, surrounded by open files. She had been sorting through reports, reviewing upcoming schedules, answering client emails, and preparing the final presentation slides for the next day's meeting.Almost everyone had gone home hours ago but she had decided to stay back and work late, partly to get ahead, but mostly because she wasn't ready to go back to her empty apartment. The thought of the man she had seen outside the café three days ago still haunted and chilled her to the bone, especially the deliberate wave that had proven he was actually looking at her and not someone else.Rina hadn't seen him and Calla had tried to explain it to her. But with the man already gone, there was no evidence to prove what she had seen. She was still lost in thought when a heavy file dropped on her desk with a soft thud. Startled, she looked up only to find Julian standing in front of her desk. Her heartbeat skipped. Since the kiss, she had kept her distance and stayed strictly pro

"Fine. It happened in the elevator yesterday."Calla told her everything that went down before the kiss and by the time she was done, Rina was staring at her like she had just confessed to murder. Her mouth hung open, eyes wide enough to pop out, and she sat completely still like she was frozen to the spot. Finally, she gasped and clutched her chest, dramatically. "Oh my God, I can't breathe. I think I'm getting chest pains. Call the doctor... call the fûcking doctor, please!""Jesus Christ, Rina!"People at the next table turned again, but Rina didn't care. She leaned closer, whisper-yelling, "Girl, you just unlocked the fantasy of every woman in this world. The man who probably thinks emotions are a tax deduction fûcking kissed you?""I just happened...""Girl, things like that don't just happen! You don't just accidentally end up lip-locked with your billionaire boss in an elevator! That's not tripping over a wire, that's... OMG, if it were me, I'd still be in a coma right now. Lik

Calla's smile faltered for a split second, but she forced it back. Was she really that easy to read? She had come to Rina hoping to clear her head, to forget everything for a while. But of course, Rina noticed. Rina always noticed.Rina tilted her head, squinting at her. "See, there it is again. That fake-ass smile you pull when you're about to hide something from me""Seriously, I'm fine. I just...""Fine, my foot." Rina scoffed and turned around, "I'm grabbing my bag," "Rina!""Stop dodging and spill whatever's eating at you, because it's written all over your face." Rina turned back and gave her a pointed look. "And if that jacket's hiding bruises, get ready for World War 3," "Fine," Calla muttered and laughed softly. "But not here. Later, okay? After work." "Nope. You're telling me now.""Rina," Calla sighed, rubbing her forehead. "You still have celebrating to do. Go enjoy it with your team, okay? We can talk about it afterward."Rina scoffed, waving her hand like it was nothin
