I remained awake as I couldn't catch any sleep. The smell of the cedarwood hunged in the air. I sat up with ease, allowing myself to be wrapped by the thick silence. I haven't been able to catch some sleep of recent and worse still, I have been troubled. My sleepless night was not as a result of nightmares, it was even something I could not place my hands on.

I took my time to get dressed, responding to the greetings of the attendants as I walked past the hallways to the Council Hall.

Nobles, elders already in ceremonial apparels were already sitted and discussing with their sharp voices but I couldn't read their intentions. I don't even know what the purpose of the meeting was. My mother sat in one corner with her eyes fixed on me as I stepped into the Hall.

“Your Highness, the queen smiled as I stepped in. You are the true son of your father.” She remarked as I walked to my seat. “You arrived at the right time and thank you for coming.

  • The Heir I Know    CHAPTER TEN: LADY ELOWEN'S POV

I sat gently at the small garden as I sipped a cup of jasmine tea while Alaric sat beside me, lost in thought. “I noticed that you have been overly quiet and all by yourself today, is there a problem you would want to share?”. I said softly as I continue to study his face.As if it was my voice that interrupted his thoughts. He startled and looked up with his face full of something unreadable. “ I am just tired, my darling. Endless meetings and council duties have been a lot on me.I placed my hand on his shoulders softly. “Alaric, I don't know why you should be keeping to yourself when you have me. We are partners in everything.”He nodded as he let out a grin. He still felt so distant even as I held his hands. This has been the order of the day recently. We felt distant even when we are together and unreachable even when close.Few moments later, we were served our lunch by one of staffs. It was grilled pheasant, buttered carrots, and soft Ardonia bread. In as much as I tried to co

  • The Heir I Know    CHAPTER EIGHT: LYRIANA'S POV

“He must not find out, Lyriana. If he finds out that you are pregnant for him and carrying his child, then this relationship that we have with him is going to break and you know what that means, I suppose. Ardonia would take the child away from you or worse still, they would have royal rights over Callista, as you know that they are our rival. Alaric may be friendly but the leaders of their Kingdom are looking for our downfall. Her words pierced and broke my spirit My womb.My body.Used like a battlefield for political power. My eyes became so full of unshed tears ready to be spilled but I struggled to allow it to fall.“All of this are not in my plans”, I muttered “Definitely not, but all of this is as a result of your negligence.”“I can't continue to be indoors forever, Mother. I need fresh air.” I said while looking away from her.“It's not you I’m hiding, but rather the pregnancy. Get that straight!” She said sharply “You must leave this hall and go back to your chambers, re

  • The Heir I Know    CHAPTER SEVEN: LYRIANA'S POV

The massive event hall of Callista was well decorated and was glowing that night. The floor made with marbles was brightened by the shiny chandeliers. Nobles, princes, and princess from all across kingdoms came together dressed in beautiful outfits. The massive event hall was filled with echoes of laughter. Just then, the sound of the trumpet was heard. "Announcing the presence of His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince Alaric of Ardonia." My heart suddenly began to beat so fast as I turned slowly. He came in with his well designed black and gold apparel. Across his chest lies the royal Ardonia badge. He appeared to be much older and full of strength. He even looked more fiery. My heart skipped again as we made eye contact, while sitting adjacently to each other. “Does he remember?”. I said silently “I don't think so.” He immediately took his eyes off me “I don't think he recollects”. “I am not sure this is something to forget about.” I thought within me. I kept to

I was still in shock of what I had read when Chloe's call came in."Hey babe! Just checking on you. I hope everything is well at home?" She said with so much excitement.“Hey babe, how are you?” I sounded so coldly. I paused. "It’s… complicated."“Explain to me , please?”I took a look at the parchment again. “Do you remember the guy from the club that night? Alaric?” I said coldly.“Yes, I do. The hot dude who disappeared the following morning. Have you found him?“Chloe, you can't believe what I just discovered.” I said irritably.“Spill, tell me babe.”I paused. “Chloe,I just found out that he is the Crown Prince of Ardonia.”“Are you joking?! Do you mean the Ardonia Kingdom? A rival to your kingdom?”“Exactly.”Chloe gasped. “Holy shit, Lyriana. You’re pregnant with the heir to both thrones. This is more than a scandal. This is a looming war waiting to happen.”I held intensely unto the edges of the windowsill. “I am aware.”“So what do you want to do?” she asked.“I am confused,”

  • The Heir I Know    CHAPTER FIVE: LYRIANA's POV

The palace was unusually cold even as the sun shore upon the golden floors. But everything was frozen deep inside of me.Pregnant.The child of a total stranger whom I only had one night stand with. I didn't even know the name of the father of the child that I am carrying.I laid down on my bed as I placed my foot on each other, looking mindlessly at the ceiling. The memories of that night became so fresh in my memory again- the way he sounded, the manner with which he held and kissed me. I couldn't let go of those thoughts no matter how I attempted to.The silence was interrupted by a gentle yet sharp knock.“My Princess?” a maid called silently from behind the door. “The Queen asks that you come to the throne hall.”As I moved slowly, I heaved a sigh of relief as I smothered my dress over my stomach. The fact that it was unbelievable has been revealed by the palace physician. And since then, I have remained indoors as I pretended to be ill. The truth was only known by my mother and
