I turned slowly, my heart sinking as I saw Jake standing a few feet away. His expression was a mix of surprise and confusion, and for a moment, I couldn’t breathe.
“What are you doing here, Amelia?” Jake’s voice cut through the air, it sounded sharp and demanding.
I froze mid-step, my breath hitching as I turned towards him. He stood a few feet away, his brows furrowed in confusion and something else; anger, maybe? Guilt? My hands clenched at my sides, I was nervous but I felt anger bubbling inside me. How dare he act like he had the right to question me?
“I could ask you the same thing,” I shot back, my voice came out colder than I had expected. Folding my arms tightly across my chest, I forced myself to stay composed.
Jake took a step forward, his shoes crunching against the ground. “You should remember I have a tracker on your phone, you know, the one you suggested I'd get.” he said, his tone as though he didn't know about anything that was going on.
I sighed quickly. I should have never suggested that. Well, that's what you do when you're in love.
“A tracker?” Logan chuckled slightly,
“Jake, can you..”
“Amelia, I was worried about you!” he interrupted. “You weren’t answering my calls. I thought you might be in danger.”
I scoffed, rolling my eyes. “You’re unbelievable. If you were so worried, you should’ve started by being honest with me.”
Before he could respond, Logan stepped into view, his calm demeanor an obvious difference to Jake’s agitated one.
Jake’s eyes darted to him, narrowing. “Who is he?” His voice dripped with suspicion.
“I’m Logan.” Logan’s voice was steady, almost nonchalant, as he took a step closer. Extending his hand, he added, “Nice to meet you.”
Jake looked at the offered hand like it was poison. Instead of shaking it, he scanned Logan from head to toe, his lips curling in distaste.
“Amelia,” Jake said, turning his attention back to me, “are you cheating on me?”
His words hit me like a slap to the face. For a moment, all I could do was stare at him, stunned by the sheer audacity of the accusation.
“How dare you, Jake?” I spat, my voice shaking with anger. “How dare you act like you didn’t cheat on me last night? and God knows how many times you have.”
Jake’s face paled, and he opened his mouth, but no words came out.
“Well?” I pressed, taking a step closer to him. “Nothing to say?”
“Who… who told you that?” he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.
“So you’re not denying it?” My voice cracked, and I felt the tears fighting to roll down my cheeks.
Jake hesitated, then let out a deep sigh, his shoulders slumping. “No Amelia, im not denying it,” he admitted, his tone low.
Behind me, Logan chuckled softly. “This is getting interesting,” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.
That was it. I couldn’t hold back anymore. My hand shot out before I even realized what I was doing, and the sound of the slap echoed through the air. I slapped Jake's on the face.
“You bastard!” I hissed, my hands shaking with rage. “How could you? After everything I’ve done for you!” My tears were now coming out freely. I couldn't hold in the hurt I felt.
Jake winced, his hand flying to his cheek, but I didn’t care. I stepped closer, my fists pounding against his chest.
“You used me!” I shouted, my voice breaking. “You lied to me, Jake! I gave you everything, everything! And this is how you repay me? By sleeping with my Bestfriend?”
“Amelia, stop!” Jake’s hands came up, trying to grab my wrists, but I jerked away.
“Don’t touch me!” I screamed, my voice dripping with anger.
Suddenly, strong arms wrapped around me from behind, pulling me away from him. “Amelia,” Logan’s voice was calm but firm, his breath warm against my ear. “That’s enough.”
I stopped struggling, my chest heaving as I cried against Logan's chest. Jake stood there, his face red and his hands clenched at his sides, but he didn’t say a word.
“You dare play the victim, Jake.” I said, my voice trembling with my barely contained tears. “You’re the one who betrayed me, Jake.”
“And you’re standing here with another man,” Jake shot back, his eyes narrowing.
Logan let out a low chuckle. “I’m right here, you know,” he said, his tone laced with amusement.
Jake glared at him. “Stay out of this.”
“I’m not sure I can do that,” Logan replied, his grip on my arms loosening slightly. “Especially when you’re the one making baseless accusations.”
“Baseless?” Jake snapped, his voice rising. “You think I don’t see what’s going on here? You've fed her with rubbish lies. You’re trying to steal her from me.”
“Steal her?” Logan raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. “You’ve already lost her, mate. And judging by that slap, you know it too.”
Jake turned his gaze back to me, his eyes pleading now. “Amelia, If you just let me—”
“You don’t get to explain!” I interrupted, my voice low because I couldn't shout any longer. “You cheated on me, Jake! Do you even realize how much I gave up for you? How much I trusted you? Do you know the things I did for you, Jake.”
Jake opened his mouth to speak, but before he could say anything, the sound of a car door opening caught our attention.
I turned my head, my heart sinking as I saw my Bestfriend, Beth step out of Jake’s car. My stomach churned as she walked toward us, smiling sheepishly.
She always had an air of confidence, something that brought us together as friends(or so I thought).
Her face showed zero remorse. I knew a day when Beth might something stupid to me would come, but not just in a way like this.
Logan's POV The first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes was her. Amelia, curled against me, her hair messy across the pillow. My chest tightened. She looked too peaceful and perfect, like I might break her if I moved. Last night replayed over in my head. The way she touched me, the way she said my name. She gave herself to me and I hadn’t felt anything that real in years. I never wanted whatever this was to end now. But…I sighed deeply. Carefully, I brushed a strand of hair from her face. She moved a bit, sighing softly. Then my hand froze. Damn. How could someone like me deserve her? What was I even doing? I'll just end up hurting her. It's better I stick to the plan. But how about how I felt… I shifted slowly, careful not to wake her as I slid out of bed. But the sheets rustled and her lashes fluttered open. Amelia’s eyes met mine, still heavy with sleep, her cheeks pink. “Sorry, didn’t mean to wake you,” I murmured, leaning down. She shook her head, biting her lip, sud
“I… I’m trying to process things,” Logan said, his voice rough. “Process what?” I snapped softly, tears burning my eyes. “Us kissing and you acting like nothing happened between us?” “Something happened.” He nodded, rubbing his hand through his hair like he was losing control. “I agree… I just… I’m confused.” “Then figure yourself out, Logan. And please...leave me out of it. Don’t kiss me anymore if it doesn’t mean anything to you!” My voice broke as the tears slipped free. He stopped. His eyes lifted, locking onto mine. “It did mean something to me.” His hand reached for mine, warm. “No, it didn’t,” I whispered, trying to pull away. “Yes..yes, it did,” he said firmly, holding tighter. “The first time we kissed… and now too. It…” His throat caught, words trembling in his mouth. “Logan…” I breathed, looking at him. He looked like he was begging me to believe him. “You drive me insane,” he finally said, his voice low. “God, Amelia… I think about you every second of the day. Eig
Amelia's POV What has just happened? Why did he leave suddenly? I stood there, and touched my lips before moving back to our seat. Still my mind still went back to that moment. The way he touched me, the way we both went away from reality and just focused on the kiss…. Was this still part of the contract? The way I felt, the tension I felt…was this still based on a paper. I was confused and just sat there, thinking. Was he as nervous as I was? I don't think so but…I don't even know. I touched my chest and felt how fast my heart was beating. Oh Amelia.. What's going on? A sudden touch on my back made me flinch. I turned and found Monsieur Durand standing there, a glass of wine in hand and that ever-present charming smile on his face. “Didnt think I'd see you again, Ms Connels,” he said smoothly, as though the sight of me made his evening. “Well,” I smiled nervously, “We’re in the same hotel and all…the chances are 90%” I told him, keeping my voice calm. “Yes, yes. I don't s
Logan's POV Her eyes were locked on mine, sharp but unsure, and for a second I almost stepped back. Almost. But then my hand brushed her cheek, and she didn’t push me away. God, she didn’t push me away. Her lips were right there, and I couldn’t stop myself. My chest tightened and every part of me was screaming to close the distance. So I did. And then my lips touched hers; just soft, barely there, like a permission. I wasn’t sure if she’d let me, if she’d turn her head and leave me hanging. But she didn’t. “Logan..” she breathed, the smallest breath left her mouth against mine, shaky, and it was enough to break me. "Tell me to stop, and I will," I said as I pressed closer. She didn't say anything so I kissed her, moving slowly because if I rushed I’d ruin it. I savoured the taste of her lipstick and I loved every part of it. My tongue flicked with hers, playing with each other. I heard the slight chuckle she let out. Her hands clutched at my shirt tighter, pulling
Amelia's POV I was actually stunned by how big and wide the ship for the cruise ship was. Honestly, it felt more like a palace floating on water. It had a fine elegant setting. “Wow,,” I muttered to myself since Logan wasn't near me. It was giving this plane-like feeling but more comfortable because I loved looking at the ocean. Paris at night was so beautiful, it was moments like this you'd be with people you loved. Inside, the tables had candles that flickered softly, and a man with a bow tie was playing something smooth on a saxophone. Soft jazz. Romantic. But I don't know, it felt the kind of atmosphere I didn’t need right now. I don't even know if I am that angry at Logan or I'm just so pissed that Jake's here. I was in Paris with Jake like last year and this year I hated any fiber of him close to me. Logan on the other hand, it was fun giving him the silent treatment. A bit childish? yeah maybe. Satisfying? Very. I walked to the table section where dance chai
Logan’s POV It was finally time for the event of the night: the Dinner Cruise. Amelia hadn’t said a single word to me since this afternoon. I couldn’t even blame her. I was the one who convinced her to let Jake come along, and now everything was spiraling. But that didn’t make the silence any easier to handle. Especially when she looked… like that, all beautiful and dressed up. She wore a satin floral gown that hugged her body just right, flowing yet delicate, the kind of dress that made me want to pull her into my arms and never let go. Instead, I kept my eyes down, focusing on buttoning my shirt like it mattered. The plan hadn’t gone smoothly today, thanks to Jana’s little stupid drama but at least Amelia was definitely tired of her ex. That counted for something. My phone buzzed on the table, Snipe was called He must have landed in Paris by now. I glanced at Amelia as she adjusted her earrings, carefully. There was no way was I answering his call right now. I cut it o
