I turned slowly, my heart sinking as I saw Jake standing a few feet away. His expression was a mix of surprise and confusion, and for a moment, I couldn’t breathe.
“What are you doing here, Amelia?” Jake’s voice cut through the air, it sounded sharp and demanding.
I froze mid-step, my breath hitching as I turned towards him. He stood a few feet away, his brows furrowed in confusion and something else; anger, maybe? Guilt? My hands clenched at my sides, I was nervous but I felt anger bubbling inside me. How dare he act like he had the right to question me?
“I could ask you the same thing,” I shot back, my voice came out colder than I had expected. Folding my arms tightly across my chest, I forced myself to stay composed.
Jake took a step forward, his shoes crunching against the ground. “You should remember I have a tracker on your phone, you know, the one you suggested I'd get.” he said, his tone as though he didn't know about anything that was going on.
I sighed quickly. I should have never suggested that. Well, that's what you do when you're in love.
“A tracker?” Logan chuckled slightly,
“Jake, can you..”
“Amelia, I was worried about you!” he interrupted. “You weren’t answering my calls. I thought you might be in danger.”
I scoffed, rolling my eyes. “You’re unbelievable. If you were so worried, you should’ve started by being honest with me.”
Before he could respond, Logan stepped into view, his calm demeanor an obvious difference to Jake’s agitated one.
Jake’s eyes darted to him, narrowing. “Who is he?” His voice dripped with suspicion.
“I’m Logan.” Logan’s voice was steady, almost nonchalant, as he took a step closer. Extending his hand, he added, “Nice to meet you.”
Jake looked at the offered hand like it was poison. Instead of shaking it, he scanned Logan from head to toe, his lips curling in distaste.
“Amelia,” Jake said, turning his attention back to me, “are you cheating on me?”
His words hit me like a slap to the face. For a moment, all I could do was stare at him, stunned by the sheer audacity of the accusation.
“How dare you, Jake?” I spat, my voice shaking with anger. “How dare you act like you didn’t cheat on me last night? and God knows how many times you have.”
Jake’s face paled, and he opened his mouth, but no words came out.
“Well?” I pressed, taking a step closer to him. “Nothing to say?”
“Who… who told you that?” he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.
“So you’re not denying it?” My voice cracked, and I felt the tears fighting to roll down my cheeks.
Jake hesitated, then let out a deep sigh, his shoulders slumping. “No Amelia, im not denying it,” he admitted, his tone low.
Behind me, Logan chuckled softly. “This is getting interesting,” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.
That was it. I couldn’t hold back anymore. My hand shot out before I even realized what I was doing, and the sound of the slap echoed through the air. I slapped Jake's on the face.
“You bastard!” I hissed, my hands shaking with rage. “How could you? After everything I’ve done for you!” My tears were now coming out freely. I couldn't hold in the hurt I felt.
Jake winced, his hand flying to his cheek, but I didn’t care. I stepped closer, my fists pounding against his chest.
“You used me!” I shouted, my voice breaking. “You lied to me, Jake! I gave you everything, everything! And this is how you repay me? By sleeping with my Bestfriend?”
“Amelia, stop!” Jake’s hands came up, trying to grab my wrists, but I jerked away.
“Don’t touch me!” I screamed, my voice dripping with anger.
Suddenly, strong arms wrapped around me from behind, pulling me away from him. “Amelia,” Logan’s voice was calm but firm, his breath warm against my ear. “That’s enough.”
I stopped struggling, my chest heaving as I cried against Logan's chest. Jake stood there, his face red and his hands clenched at his sides, but he didn’t say a word.
“You dare play the victim, Jake.” I said, my voice trembling with my barely contained tears. “You’re the one who betrayed me, Jake.”
“And you’re standing here with another man,” Jake shot back, his eyes narrowing.
Logan let out a low chuckle. “I’m right here, you know,” he said, his tone laced with amusement.
Jake glared at him. “Stay out of this.”
“I’m not sure I can do that,” Logan replied, his grip on my arms loosening slightly. “Especially when you’re the one making baseless accusations.”
“Baseless?” Jake snapped, his voice rising. “You think I don’t see what’s going on here? You've fed her with rubbish lies. You’re trying to steal her from me.”
“Steal her?” Logan raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. “You’ve already lost her, mate. And judging by that slap, you know it too.”
Jake turned his gaze back to me, his eyes pleading now. “Amelia, If you just let me—”
“You don’t get to explain!” I interrupted, my voice low because I couldn't shout any longer. “You cheated on me, Jake! Do you even realize how much I gave up for you? How much I trusted you? Do you know the things I did for you, Jake.”
Jake opened his mouth to speak, but before he could say anything, the sound of a car door opening caught our attention.
I turned my head, my heart sinking as I saw my Bestfriend, Beth step out of Jake’s car. My stomach churned as she walked toward us, smiling sheepishly.
She always had an air of confidence, something that brought us together as friends(or so I thought).
Her face showed zero remorse. I knew a day when Beth might something stupid to me would come, but not just in a way like this.
Amelia’s POV The restroom was quiet and beautiful, even though one could hear a little music coming from the outside. The restroom had soft golden lights and scented candles placed neatly along the marble sinks. It also smelled like lavender and something faintly floral. For a moment, it felt really peaceful. Someone then opened the door, almost immediately. And then I turned around and stopped. "Beth?" I said, confused. She stood by the door, arms crossed, her face unreadable. Her eyes narrowed. “What are you doing at my father’s gala?” Her tone was bitter, almost accusing. "Here to cause more trouble??" she said. I blinked, keeping my voice calm. “You father invited me, Beth. That's the only reason of me being here,” I then turned to leave, not in the mood for drama. But as I stepped forward, she blocked my way and pushed me lightly. Not enough to hurt me, but enough to make me stumble a little. I steadied myself and looked at her in disbelief. She stepped clos
The day flew by faster than I expected, and soon enough, I was back home. Still, I couldn’t stop thinking about Logan. It was strange… how just being around him made my stomach flutter. I kept trying to remind myself; that all this is just a proposal. That’s what this is, right? Deep down, I wasn’t sure even anymore. What if this wasn’t just work? What if we were really building something? I tried to shake the thought off, but I couldn’t wipe the small smile off my face either. While lying on my bed, I picked up my phone to scroll through some emails. That’s when I saw a message from Mom. > MOM: “Are you okay?” MOM: [Link attached] Curious, I clicked the link. The headline stopped my heart for a second. > “Amelia Connells and Jake Matthews Back Together??” “Is She Cheating On Her New Boyfriend Logan Wills?” Right below it was a blurry picture of Jake entering the Connells Enterprise building. I froze. “What the hell…” I whispered, my voice cracking a li
I clenched my jaw for half a second, then turned toward them with the best fake smile I could manage. Amelia’s smile faltered the moment our eyes met. Her gaze bounced between me and Jana, clearly trying to figure something out. “Y-you guys know each other?” she asked, a little confused. Before I could speak, Jana jumped in. “Yeah, sure,” she said smoothly. “Who wouldn’t know Logan Wills?” She was looking directly at me. I could see it in her eyes — the game she was playing. What was she up to? Jana continued, her voice light, almost playful. “I’ve heard a lot about him on blogs… seen him around the city too, here and there. But never actually met him in real life. So this was a surprise.” I blinked. What? That’s the story she’s going with? She didn’t tell Amelia we used to date? Didn’t mention how she left me when everything went to hell? Just... some guy she’s seen on the blogs? Yeah. She was definitely up to something. I nodded slowly, playing along.
Logan’s POV By the time I pulled up to my house, the sky had already darkened. My thoughts were still spinning from the mess on the gossip blogs. The way Jake’s face appeared next to Amelia’s name on that stupid headline, it irritated me more than I cared to admit. I clicked the button on the dash and the gate opened slowly. The headlights swept across the front yard; and my car drove through the clean stone pathway and the lights I'd had installed. Everything looked calm on the outside, but inside me? Not so much. One of the gardeners waved as I drove in. “Good evening, sir.” I gave him a small nod without a word, too deep in my thoughts to manage small talk. As I stepped out of the car, the night air hit my face. Cool, still and too quiet. I walked up to the front door, slipped my key in, and pushed it open. “Logan.” I froze. The voice stopped me mid-step. Soft, warm, familiar. Of course I knew that voice. I turned around slowly. And there she was. “Mom?” I sa
Logan's POVMy office was quiet, but not silent. The soft whir of the audio monitor filled the space like a ticking clock.I sat behind my desk, back straight, fingers together, watching the waveform of Amelia's voice rise and fall on the screen in front of me. Zach leaned over my shoulder, his eyes locked on the laptop."You sure this thing picks up everything?" he asked, his tone casual, but I caught the flicker of unease in his voice."Well I hope so,” I replied.Amelia’s voice filtered through the speaker; sharp, calm, controlled. She was really a queen "Yeah, 30 million, you have exactly a month to pay back." Zach let out a low whistle. "She’s cold. I love it."I didn’t say anything. But inside? Yeah. I was proud. She didn’t flinch. Not once. She stood her ground and put him exactly where he belonged, right beneath her heel. But the pride was twisted with something else. Guilt. She trusts me. I was at her house. She's let me come into her office any time, she even made me din
Amelia's POV I felt… better, stronger, lighter. It was like as the days went by, something heavy just kept rolling off my chest. A few days ago, I was the girl who got cheated on. Now? I don’t even recognize that version of me. I take it as a sign of growth, I guess. Even though it cost me a few sleepless nights. But thanks to Logan. And my parents. But… mostly Logan. That dinner we had two nights ago at my place was surprisingly nice. Not loud or fancy. Just the two of us. I cooked. Yes I can. I could’ve easily asked the chef, but I wanted to do something a little real for him. ***** *Two nights ago* “You’re so bad at this,” Logan said with a half-smile, watching me attempt to cut the vegetables. I scoffed. “I’m doing just fine.” He leaned against the kitchen counter, sleeves rolled, arms crossed. “That tomato is weeping for help.” I looked down at the mess. “Fine. You do it, Mr. Expert.” Logan walked over, close enough that I could smell his cologne, subtle but sharp
