Chapter 3

Penulis: Luca Rowan
"Shouldn't you find out what happened before you demand an apology?" I asked.

Sebastian adjusted the badge on his chest. "Julian has already reported the incident to me."

"Did that include her barging into my room and trying to steal my briefcase?" I shot back.

"Miss Liliana holds a gold card. This ship is obligated to accommodate her reasonable requests." He picked up my room key card from the table and turned it over.

"As for you, we checked your reservation. You booked as a regular passenger, without family backing."

For the past few years, I had used my mother's surname while working overseas. I had also booked my cabin and boarded the ship as an ordinary passenger this time, simply to avoid unnecessary complications.

"So, you're saying that even after paying for a room, a guest still needs someone to vouch for them before they deserve to stay here?"

Sebastian did not answer. Instead, he handed my key card to a crew member standing behind him.

"Revoke her access to the penthouse deck."

Liliana accepted the champagne Julian offered her and took a slow sip.

"It would've saved everyone a lot of trouble if you'd done that sooner." She pointed at her skirt. "But I've changed my mind. She's not staying on this ship."

"We'll take care of it," Sebastian replied without hesitation.

I looked at him. "Is this how you handle problems?"

"We have a responsibility to protect our important guests. You refused to cooperate with the room reassignment and physically attacked a VIP. You're no longer fit to remain aboard the Royal."

He placed the untouched napkin beside the coffee table.

"Before we sail, you'll bow your head and apologize to Miss Liliana, pay for the damage to her dress, and leave the ship with your luggage. That's the last bit of dignity we can offer you."

Liliana set down her glass and deliberately raised her voice toward the doorway.

"You all heard him! She doesn't know how to behave, so when I tell her to get lost, she gets lost!"

Several passengers who had just arrived on the penthouse deck stopped in the doorway.

I could hear them whispering. I could also see Julian standing a little straighter, pleased with how things were going.

The young porter who had spoken up for me earlier suddenly found his voice.

"Mr. Ricci, Miss Liliana was the one who grabbed the briefcase first."

Liliana slammed her champagne glass onto the table.

"She refused to move, so I helped her move her luggage. What's the problem? If you care so much about her, why didn't you pack her things for her earlier?"

She pointed at Sebastian.

"Take away his name badge! I didn't come aboard just to be lectured by some baggage handler!"

Sebastian pointed toward the doorway.

"Take his badge and send him to Human Resources."

The young man froze. One of his coworkers pulled him out of the room. My eyes followed the badge being removed from his chest until the door closed again.

"Is that what you think, too?" I asked Sebastian.

He looked irritated.

"Ma'am, I don't have time to argue with you. The Royal is carrying a shipload of VIP guests. We can't delay departure over one passenger."

I checked my watch. We had twenty minutes before departure.

The secret ledgers had to reach Sicellia with me. My father was waiting for the documents so we could complete the handover of our overseas operations.

"I have to take this ship. I need to get back to Sicellia on time."

"Then you should've known better than to cause trouble in the first place," Liliana interrupted with a laugh. "Now you suddenly have somewhere important to be? Go ahead, beg me. Maybe I'll consider letting you stay."

I closed the briefcase and picked it up.

"Get me the captain."

Sebastian finally laughed.

"The captain is preparing for departure. He has already approved our decision to remove disruptive passengers. There's no need to bother him."

He answered without a moment's hesitation.

"The Royal can't afford to offend one of Marco Moretti's VIPs."

I nodded. "Remember what you just said."

Sebastian's smile vanished.

"Notify security. Have them come and remove her."

Liliana leaned back in her chair and pointed at my briefcase.

"Throw her things off the ship first. That way, she can't use her luggage as an excuse to hang around."

I answered the call.My father spoke first."Are you and Marco both aboard?""We are. Marco is in the next room."There was a brief silence on his end."Antonio has told me what happened. Are you hurt?""No.""What about the documents?"I looked at the briefcase beside the table."The seal is intact. I'll hand everything over to you personally tomorrow morning."I heard a chair scrape across the floor on his end."What are you going to do about Marco?""His trial appointment is suspended for one month. He'll work under Antonio to handle the aftermath. His personal expenses and compensation payments will come out of his own account."My father did not answer immediately."Then we'll do it your way."I released the hand resting on the briefcase clasp."He'll explain everything to you himself tomorrow morning.""Good." He paused, and his voice softened. "Get some rest. What would you like to eat tomorrow morning?"I glanced out the window. The lights along the pier were

Marco turned away from the window and stopped in front of me."Sis."I picked up my phone from the table and stood."Come with me."He glanced toward the doorway but asked no questions. He followed me out of the VIP lounge. Along the way, crew members stepped aside, still addressing him respectfully as Mr. Moretti.Back on the penthouse deck, a member of the security detail opened my suite for me and carried my briefcase inside.Antonio checked the seal before allowing the guards to leave."Bring us two dinners."I took the key card from him."We'll discuss everything else when I come out."Antonio acknowledged my instructions and closed the door behind him.Marco stood beside the sofa. Only when the lock clicked did his tense shoulders relax a little."Sis, I'm sorry."I placed my phone on the coffee table."Sit down."He sat and stared at the cracks across the screen. It took him a long moment to speak."I gave her the card. I was the one who told them to accommodate

Marco looked down at Sebastian's hand gripping his trouser leg. Then, he raised his eyes to Liliana."Step aside."The guards pried Sebastian's fingers loose and dragged him toward the gangway."Mr. Moretti!"Sebastian tried to look back, but a guard forced his shoulders down. The glass door closed, cutting off his desperate cries.Liliana stared at the doorway, her hand frozen around her purse. She walked over to Marco and lowered her voice."Darling, take me with you."He did not move."I won't change rooms, and I won't bring my friends over. We can leave the ship right now."She reached for his sleeve, but Marco removed her hand."After everything you've done, you still expect me to help you get out of this?"Get lost."She stared at him, her hand still suspended in the air. Marco turned away without another word.I handed the dinner reservation list to a crew member."Cancel it. Have her luggage brought out."Liliana whipped around to face me."Ms. Moretti, what h

I beckoned to the young man standing outside the door.He stepped inside, clutching the work badge he had just gotten back. When he saw Marco standing beside the table and the disarmed security guards, he stopped just short of it."Come here."He approached me and lowered his head."Ms. Moretti.""What's your name?""Lucas Sanna.""Did they ask you to sign a resignation form?""Yes. I haven't signed it yet." He gripped his name badge, his voice tight with tension. "They said I'd offended Mr. Moretti's VIP, and none of the family's ships would hire me again."Liliana cut in."I was just angry. He isn't going to lose his job. Ms. Moretti, do you really have to make such a big deal out of this over him?"I ignored her and took the name badge from Lucas."You told the truth on behalf of a guest, and they threw you out for it."He nodded.I placed his badge on the table and signaled to Antonio."Settle all his outstanding wages, and add a $100,000 bonus. I'll pay for it mysel

Marco's expression changed. He reached out to stop Liliana.I raised a hand."Let her speak."He remained where he was.Seeing his reaction, Liliana found a little courage and took a step forward."I'm not trying to disrespect you, but you can’t take out whatever’s going on between you and your sister on me. “He gave me the card, and his people arranged the room." She placed the gold card on the table but kept her fingertips on it. "If you want someone to answer for this, you should at least ask him first."I looked at Marco.Antonio opened the folder containing the quarterly reports and pulled out the trial appointment authorization attached to the front."The family's shipping operations are managed by Ms. Moretti. Mr. Moretti is serving a one-quarter trial appointment as the manager of the Royal. The authorization also bears Ms. Moretti's signature."Sebastian stared at the signature. Sweat trickled from his temple into his collar.I closed the folder and pushed it back

Marco's Adam's apple bobbed.Liliana finally sensed that something was wrong. Her hand froze around the gold card."Marco, you know her?"She reached for his arm again."Darling, she's completely out of line! Look what she did to my dress!"Marco pulled her hand away."Get away from me!"She tried to move closer anyway. A sharp slap cracked across her face.Liliana stumbled into the reception desk. Her purse hit the floor, sending her lipstick and perfume rolling toward a crew member's feet."You hit me?!""She's my sister, the eldest daughter of the Moretti family."Liliana pressed a hand to her cheek. Her lips parted, but no sound came out.Sebastian's hands began to tremble against the edge of the desk.Marco turned and stopped in front of me."Sis." He stood perfectly straight, but his hands were clenched at his sides. "I gave her the card. I was the one who told them to take care of her."The head of the family's security detail stepped forward. He placed his right
