Chapter 2

Author: Mr. Z
Stephanie and Winona exchanged stunned looks, both of them unable to believe what they had just heard.

Had they misheard?

Edward's bank account just received how much?

Ten million dollars?!

Was this some kind of joke?

Stephanie watched as Edward pulled out his phone to check, a mocking smile creeping across her face. "Edward, I didn't expect you'd set that kind of ringtone. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you really had ten million transferred to you. Heh."

Stephanie's eyes were filled with contempt as she watched Edward. She didn't believe that he had just received a ten-million-dollar transfer into his bank account.

Just then, Edward's phone rang again.

"Hello?"

"Are you the Mystic Healer? I'm the one who transferred ten million to you. Please, you have to save my father!"

The Mystic Healer was just one of Edward's many aliases.

"Who are you, and how did you get my number?"

Edward frowned. He rarely gave out this number, so how did this person get it?

"I'm Clyde from the Hardwick family in Havaria. I got your number from Mr. Skyler Dawson from Draken Group."

At the mention of Skyler Dawson from Draken Group, Edward's eyes narrowed slightly. He had saved Skyler previously, and he had given the man his number in case of an emergency.

The fact that Spencer Group was about to secure the ten-billion-dollar order from Draken Group was actually something Skyler had arranged specifically to thank Edward.

Initially, Edward was about to refuse. After all, he was in the middle of a divorce—why bother saving anyone? But when his gaze fell on Stephanie, the corner of his mouth curled into a meaningful, cold smile.

"I'll help, but you'll need to send someone to pick me up at Skywater Gardens, Villa 20."

After ending the call, Edward turned his gaze to Stephanie, his eyes glinting with amusement. The smirk on his face deepened.

"You said if I made ten million, you'd lick my shoes?"

Stephanie scoffed. "That's right. If you really can make ten million like you say, I'll lick your shoes."

She didn't believe Edward was that good. Spencer Group might be huge now, but even they only made a few million a month. If this loser could just snap his fingers and make ten million, that would make him some kind of godly figure, wouldn't it?

"You don't actually think that by faking a ringtone, you can fool me, do you? Do you really believe I'd fall for the idea that you just received ten million?"

Stephanie's face was full of disdain. She didn't believe the sound she had just heard—the notification of a ten-million-dollar transfer.

Winona also stared at Edward with suspicion, clearly not buying that he had just received a ten-million-dollar payment.

After all, her company worked hard month after month for just a few million in profit. How could Edward, with his hands in his pockets, easily rake in ten million dollars?

Impossible. Absolutely impossible!

Winona also refused to believe that the notification of the transfer was real. She was more inclined to think that the sound she had heard was just the ringtone Edward had set up.

"Edward, I'm so disappointed in you," Winona said. "Do you really have to use a ringtone like that to show off in front of me?"

She shook her head, her eyes filled with disappointment. "Even if you had no money, I wouldn't look down on you. The reason I'm divorcing you is because you can't help me with my career."

Edward froze for a moment, stunned by her words. When he finally understood what she was implying, it felt like a sharp sting in his heart.

He never expected that the woman he had been married to for three years would see him in such a light.

Could it be that, in her eyes, he was nothing more than a greedy, materialistic person?

And her words were so ridiculous! She wasn't divorcing him because he didn't have money? She was leaving him because he couldn't help her in business?!

In the end, wasn't it still about money? Wasn't he simply not good enough because he couldn't match her wealth and status?

Kayla couldn't stand the way Winona and Stephanie were mocking Edward.

"How can you treat my brother-in-law like this?" she said, her voice rising in anger. "Is it really such a hard thing to believe that he made ten million?"

Kayla turned her glare on Winona, her face red with fury. "I never thought you'd look at him like that, Winona. After everything he's done for you, it feels like it was all for nothing!

"Mark my words, you'll regret this. You'll regret divorcing him."

Slap!

Winona's face darkened as she raised her hand and slapped Kayla across the face.

"Get back to your room now," Winona snapped. "You don't have a say here. Keep talking, and you won't be living here anymore."

Kayla's words had struck a nerve, deeply hurting Winona's pride.

Kayla held her cheek, her eyes red and filled with hate. She couldn't believe Winona had slapped her. Furious, she turned and stormed out of the room.

Bang!

The loud sound of the door slamming echoed through the house. Edward's gaze turned icy as he stared at Winona.

"That's your sister. Why would you hit her?"

Winona's expression turned cold. "This is a family matter. It has nothing to do with you. Don't forget your place. From now on, the Spencer family's matters are none of your concern."

Edward snorted coldly.

However, he knew she was right. From this moment on, he had no ties to the Spencer family.

Winona remained silent, her gaze filled with contempt as she looked at Edward.

She was the CEO of Spencer Group, and soon, she would be partnering with Draken Group on a ten-billion-dollar project. After that, she would become the most powerful female CEO in Havaria.

Edward was just a recently-divorced man with no job. Without her, he was nothing.

What Winona didn't realize was that her slap had already pushed Edward to cancel the ten-billion-dollar contract Draken Group was about to give Spencer Group.

Stephanie sneered. "Edward, don't tell me you've set your sights on Ms. Kayla now that you've been kicked out by Ms. Winona?

"I didn't think you would be so shameless. Looks like you plan to live off of someone for the rest of your life."

Edward's eyes flashed with a sharp, dangerous light. His terrifying glare made Stephanie flinch, trembling and sweating.

At that moment, the sound of a car horn echoed from outside.

Everyone turned to look out the floor-to-ceiling windows. A luxury convoy was parked outside, headlights cutting through the night like a flood of light.

Stephanie hurried to the door to see what was going on.

She couldn't shake off the pressure from Edward's intense gaze and figured it was better to step away from the weight of his stare.

Winona also walked toward the door with Edward.

The doors of the luxury cars began to open, and a row of tall, broad-shouldered men dressed in suits stepped out, immediately forming a straight line.

These men exuded a dangerous aura, and they were clearly trained bodyguards.

A middle-aged man with a slicked-back hairstyle, smiling broadly, approached. His eyes scanned past Stephanie and Winona, landing squarely on Edward.

He had already been informed that the Mystic Healer was a man.

Clearly, neither Stephanie nor Winona fit that description.

"Mr. Cooper, are you here to see Ms. Spencer?"

Stephanie's eyes widened in recognition as she saw the man.

Steven Cooper was the assistant of the richest man in Havaria, Clyde Hardwick. Spencer Group had tried multiple times to collaborate with Clyde, but despite several attempts to schedule a meeting, they had never succeeded.

Stephanie had been handling the communications, so she immediately recognized Steven.

She excitedly introduced Steven to Winona, "Ms. Spencer, this is Mr. Cooper, assistant to Havaria's wealthiest man, Mr. Hardwick. Since he's here to meet with you, I'm sure it's about a potential partnership."

When Winona learned that this man was Havaria's richest man's assistant, her face lit up with excitement.

In her mind, the only reason for Steven to be here was because he had heard about Spencer Group's upcoming deal with Draken Group, and now Clyde wanted to partner with her.

"Mr. Cooper, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Winona Spencer, the CEO of Spencer Group. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to discuss a partnership."

With a beaming smile, Winona stepped forward and extended her hand to Steven.

She couldn't help but flash a smug glance at Edward.

Even the wealthiest man in Havaria wanted to work with her. What could Edward possibly do to help Kayla now?

Upon hearing Winona's title, Steven looked surprised and somewhat puzzled.

He hadn't expected the Mystic Healer to be involved with Spencer Group's CEO—did they have some sort of relationship?

Just then, Stephenie mockingly said to Edward, "Do you see this? Even the richest man in Havaria is coming to us, wanting to work with Ms. Spencer. Do you really think you're good enough for her?

"Face the facts, Edward. A loser will always be a loser. You can't expect to be with someone on Ms. Spencer's level."

When Edward heard that Steven worked for Clyde, he already guessed that Steven was here to pick him up.

But it seemed like Winona and Stephanie had misunderstood, thinking Steven was here to discuss a partnership with them.

Edward's eyes glinted with amusement as he looked at Stephanie, a subtle smile playing on his lips.

"You're sure he's here to see you?"

With her head held high and a smug expression, Stephanie responded, "Of course, they're here for Ms. Spencer. What, do you think they're here for you?

"Do you really believe someone like you is worthy of Mr. Cooper's attention?"

Edward nodded, his expression completely serious. "Yes, he's here to pick me up."

At that, Stephanie couldn't help but burst into laughter, her eyes filled with mockery as she stared at Edward.

"Edward, I think you're drunk. You've been drinking, haven't you? Do you honestly think Mr. Cooper's here for you?

"If he really is here to see you, I'll kneel right here!"

From the very beginning, she had made it clear that she thought he wasn't good enough for Winona. To Hailey, Edward had hit the jackpot by marrying into the Spencer family, and she never missed the chance to remind him of it."Edward! Put that suitcase down!"William stormed forward, yanking the suitcase right out of Edward's hand, his glare filled with hostility.Hailey stepped up as well, her tone sharp. I'll eat my hat if he does. Edward has been living off Winona all these years. Without her, he's just a worthless man."Then, William pointed to the yellow Maybach parked nearby and mocked, "I bet you don't even know what a Maybach looks like. Let me educate you.
