Liam's POV The third knock hit through my apartment, slow, measured and patient. Whoever stood outside wasn't pounding on the door like an impatient visitor, but they were waiting for me. I tightened my grip on my hockey stick and moved to the entrance, careful not to make a sound. Every instinct screamed that opening the door was a mistake, but pretending no one was home wouldn't make them disappear. I stopped beside the peephole, I looked through it, there's nothing and the hallway was empty. A knot formed in my stomach, and I unlocked the door just enough to pull it open a few inches. "Hello?" I asked, but silence answered me. The corridor stretched in both directions under the pale fluorescent lights, there were no footsteps, no voices and no one at sight. I opened the door wider, but still nothing, no sign of anyone. But then my eyes dropped to the floor, where a small black envelope rested inside the welcome mat. It hadn't been there seconds ago, I stepped into the hallway and looked both ways again. The elevator doors were closed, the stairwell door hadn't moved. Whoever left it had vanished impossibly fast. I picked up the envelope, I looked at it, there's no name and no stamp but only a black wax seal pressed with the shape of a wolf's head. A strange feeling settled in my chest. I'd never seen that symbol before. Back inside, I locked every bolt on the door before placing the second envelope beside the first file. For a long moment, I simply stared at it. Two anonymous deliveries in one night, someone was either trying to help me...or trying to control me. I broke the seal, inside it was a single folded sheet slid into my hand, no greeting and no signature but only one sentence. You're being watched. Trust no one who profits from your future. And below it was a flash drive taped neatly to the page, my pulse jumped. I hurried to my laptop and plugged it in. The drive contained only one folder. GAME FOOTAGE Confused, I opened it. Dozens of short video clips appeared, and every clip featured me. Practice sessions, league games, training camps and charity events. Some footage had obviously come from televised broadcasts. But others...others couldn't have. One video showed me arriving alone at the practice rink before sunrise, and another captured me leaving the university library at night. And another showed me jogging through campus wearing headphones. The camera angles were wrong, hidden. Whoever recorded them hadn't been part of any television crew, but they'd been following me. For months, or maybe longer. A cold sweat spread from my back. I clicked another file, this one showed me and Mia leaving a restaurant nearly a year ago. The camera zoomed in as she whispered something in my ear. Then the recording abruptly froze, someone had typed a caption across the screen. TARGET SECURED "What does that even mean?" I muttered. Before I could open another file, my phone vibrated across the table, unknown Number again. I hesitated before answering. "...Hello?" For several seconds, all I heard was breathing. And then the call disconnected, almost immediately, another message appeared. It reads: Stop watching the videos. I stared at the screen. Another notification arrived before I could react. They're already looking for the drive. My blood ran cold, I looked through my apartment door. Has someone planted cameras here? Was whoever texted me outside, and watching me? I rushed to the window overlooking the parking lot. A black SUV sat in the street with its headlights off. As I watched, the driver's door opened, and a man stepped out wearing a dark baseball cap. He didn't look at my building, but he simply stood beside the vehicle, speaking into his phone. And seconds later...my own phone began ringing again. With an unknown Number. I answered immediately. "What do you want?" A familiar voice spoke from the other end. "Turn off every light in your apartment." My heart stopped. It was Noah. But before I could ask how he knew where I was, he spoke again, his voice tighter than I'd ever heard it. "Liam... don't look at the SUV." But it's too late. The man beside it slowly lifted his head. Even from four floors up...it felt like he was staring directly at me.Come AloneLiam's POVCOME ALONE IF YOU WANT YOUR RIVAL BACK. I stared at the message. Noah took my phone.“No.”“Give it back.”“You're not going.”“Marcus is alive.”“And they want you.”“I know.”“That's exactly why you're not going.” I stepped closer. “You don't get to decide that for me.” Noah looked at me for a long moment. Then he handed the phone back. “Fine.”I blinked. “Fine?”“I won't stop you.”He paused. “But I'm coming.”“They said alone.”“They don't make the rules.”For some reason, that made me smile. “You're impossible.”“You kissed me.”“That doesn't make you my bodyguard.”“No.”He moved closer. “It makes me the person who isn't letting you walk into a trap alone.” My smile faded. “You're still injured.”“I can stand.”“You shouldn't.”“I can.”I looked at his ankle. Then back at him. “Then stay close.”“I planned to.”The location arrived ten minutes later. An abandoned training warehouse outside the city.Noah drove. I sat beside him, holding the flash drive Marc
Locked InLiam's POV“Marcus is missing?”Darius's voice came through the phone.“Yes.”“Where are you?”“Outside the arena.”“Don't come in.”I looked at Noah. “Why?”“The doors are locked.”“By Derrick?”“Yes.”My stomach tightened. “Get away from there.”“I can't.”“What do you mean?”Darius lowered his voice. “I'm still inside.” The call went silent. “Darius?” No answer.“Darius!” The line disconnected. I started to move towards the arena. Noah grabbed my arm.“Wait.”“My friend is inside.”“I know.”“Then let me go.”“We need a plan.”I pulled free. “I've spent too long letting other people decide where I can go.” He looked at me. Then nodded. “Fine.” He took out his phone. “I'll get you inside.”“You're not coming?”He smiled. “I never said that.” We reached the side entrance. Noah typed a code into the security panel. The door opened. I stared at him. “You had the code?”“I have my ways.”“You're becoming very suspicious.”“You're dating me now. You should expect that.”I stopp
The WarningLiam's POV“They're planning to destroy me.” Marcus's words stayed in my head. Noah watched me.“What did he say?” I told him. His became hardened. “When did he call?”“Just now.”“Call him back.”I did. No answer. I tried again. Nothing. Noah stood. “I'll find him.”“You can't even walk properly.”“I can still drive.”“No.”He looked at me. “Liam.”“You're staying here.”A small smile appeared. “You're ordering me around now?”“Yes.”“I like it.”I stared at him. “Don't make this weird.”“Too late.”I almost smiled. Then my phone vibrated.A message from Marcus. Locker Room. Now. Alone. I showed Noah. “I'm coming with you.”“No.”“Liam.”“If Marcus is scared, he might only talk if I'm alone.”Noah didn't like it. “I'll wait outside.” I nodded. “Deal.” The locker room was empty.Marcus stood beside my locker. His face looked worse than before. “What happened?”He handed me a flash drive.“I stole this.”“From who?”“Derrick.”I stared at it. “What is it?”“Game strategy.”
Back on the IceLiam POV“You're not playing.”Noah looked at me. “I can walk.”“You can barely stand.”“I'll be fine.”“You said that before.” He glanced at his swollen ankle. “It's not that bad.” I crossed my arms. “You're impossible.”“You've said that before too.”I almost smiled. Then his phone rang. Coach Derrick. Noah answered. “Hello?” Derrick's voice came through. “Liam is needed at practice.”Noah looked at me. “Why?”“Management changed its decision.” I sighed.“What decision?” Derrick continued. “Liam is captain again.” I laughed. Noah ended the call.I moved closer to him. “Captain?” He nodded.“They're giving it back.”“That doesn't make sense.”“No.”My phone buzzed. A message from the team manager. Report to the arena at 7 a.m. Captaincy reinstated. I stared at it. Someone had changed their mind overnight. But why?At the arena, the locker room went silent when I walked in.My captain's jersey hung in my locker. I touched the patch. For a moment, I felt like myself aga
The House of SecretsLiam's POV“Show yourself.”My voice sounded through the house. No answer. Noah moved in front of me. “Stay behind me.” I shook my head. “Not this time.”He looked at me. “I can protect you.”“I know.”I stepped beside him. “But I'm done hiding behind you.” A slow clap came from the hallway. A man stepped into the light. I recognized him. The same man who had entered my apartment. The one who gave me the old hockey puck.“You?”He smiled. “You're finally asking the right questions.” Noah stepped closer. “Who are you?” Noah asked. The man ignored him.He looked directly at me.“Your father wanted you away from all of this.”“Then why are you here?”“Because he failed.”My fists tightened. “Did my mother order Mia to leave me?”“No.”I froze. “What?” The man shook his head. “Your mother didn't order anything.” I looked at Noah. He was already watching the man carefully.“Then why was money sent to her account?”“Because she was being paid to disappear.” My chest tig
The Name He BlamedLiam POV“My mother?”The word barely left my mouth. Marcus nodded. “She ordered Mia to leave you.” I stared at him. “Why?”“I don't know.”“You just said she ordered it.”“I know what I heard.”“From who?”Marcus looked away. “Holt.” Noah stepped into the room. “What exactly did Holt tell you?”Marcus swallowed. “He said Liam's mother wanted him away from hockey.” My hands tightened. “Why would she want that?” Marcus shook his head.“I don't know.” I looked at Noah. He wasn't surprised. That scared me more than Marcus's words. “You knew something.”“No.”“You hesitated.”“Because I'm thinking.”“About my mother?”“Yes.”I turned away. My mother had left when I was young. She barely called. She never came to my games. And now someone was telling me she had helped destroy my career.I didn't know what to believe. Marcus spoke again. “There was a payment.” I turned. “What payment?”“Holt transferred money to an account.”“Whose?”Marcus hesitated. “Your mother's.” The
