Paige's POV

I walked back to the party, trying to ignore the strange interaction I had just had with Knox. I really should’ve known better.

For one stupid second, I’d actually thought Knox Donovan wasn't the same jerk I’d grown up with.

What was with his mood swing, one moment he’s calm and reasonable and the next he turns into a condescending jerk.

Apparently, I was still gullible enough to believe miracles happened.

I sank back onto the couch and reached for my drink, taking a long sip. Leah was dancing with the hockey team and some girls. She was definitely enjoying herself.

“Paigey…” Leah stumbled toward me with a grin that could only belong to someone who’d had far too much to drink.

She practically collapsed beside me.

“There you are.” She squinted at me. “Where’d you go?”

“Outside, to get some air.”

“Without me?” she gasped dramatically, pressing a hand to her chest. “That’s… rude.” The sharp sting of vodka rolled off her breath.

My stomach tightened.

“You’ve been drinking?”

She blinked at me, then grinned—slow and crooked.

“Maybe.”

“Leahhh.”

“What?” She lifted both hands in surrender, nearly losing her balance in the process. “I’m just… making friends.”

“By emptying the bar?”

She laughed a little too loudly, throwing an arm around my shoulders. Her weight sagged against me.

“I am making friends.”

That was exactly what worried me.

Leah’s filter had always been the first thing alcohol stole.

Before I could convince her to head home, a familiar voice cut through the music.

“I was wondering where you disappeared to.”

Leah’s head snapped up.

Enzo walked over, amusement written all over his face. “I think your friend is officially done for the night.”

“I’m fine,” Leah protested, pointing at him before nearly tipping sideways.

Enzo caught her elbow before she could slide off the couch.

“See?” Enzo said, guiding her back to the chair.

Leah suddenly squinted up at Enzo like she’d just noticed him for the first time.

“…Has anyone ever told you you’re really handsome?”

My eyes widened.

Oh no.

Enzo laughed awkwardly. “Uh—”

“And your smile?” Leah continued, waving a finger at him. “Your smile is, like… illegal.”

“Leah.” I grabbed her wrist before she could keep going.

She looked at me, confused.

“What?”

“We’re leaving.”

“What? No!” She frowned dramatically. “I’m talking my cr—”

“You’ve made enough friends for one night,” I said cutting her off before she said something she might regret.

“I haven’t even told him—”

“Nope.” I was already pulling her to her feet.

She stumbled into me, giggling.

Enzo rubbed the back of his neck, trying—and failing—not to laugh.

“I think she’s officially done.”

“She’s been done,” I muttered.

“I can call you guys a cab.”

“I’ll take them.”

Knox’s voice came from behind us.

I turned.

He stood with one hand shoved into his pocket, looking entirely too calm for someone who’d spent the last ten minutes irritating the life out of me.

Enzo looked between us.

“You sure?”

Knox shrugged.

I opened my mouth.

“We’ll be fin—”

Before I could finish, Leah clapped her hands.

“Yay! Family chauffeur!”

I closed my eyes.

Perfect.

Leah was already snoring softly in the backseat by the time I climbed into the passenger seat. I immediately realized this wasn’t the SUV he’d driven the other night.

A sports car.

Of course.

Between hockey and the Tatum’s family money, Knox could probably afford to switch cars every day if he wanted.

I sat uncomfortably in my seat, fumbling for the seatbelt. Knox got in the driver's seat, and I heard a quiet sigh come from beside me.

“You’re locking it.”

“I am not.” I shot him a glare before giving it one more determined yank. “I know how a seatbelt works.” I tugged it again.

It jammed again.

“…Move.”

“What?” Embarrassed, I mutter. I'm pretty sure he would make fun of my ignorance.

Before I could argue, Knox leaned forward cornering me between his chest and the seat. My breath caught, he was so close I could literally count his thick long lashes.

“Why? What do you want?” I stutter.

He was far too close. A slight smile touched his lips. He leaned in even more one hand reached past me for the belt while the other braced lightly against the edge of my seat.

“Nothing.” A slow smirk touched his lips.

He was already close enough for me to feel the warmth of his body. One hand reached past me for the belt while the other braced lightly against the edge of my seat.

“Just helping with your seatbelt.” With one smooth tug, the belt slid free.

He drew it across me and guided the buckle and latched it beside my hip.

For a heartbeat, neither of us moved. His face was only inches from mine. Heat crept up my neck. His gaze dropped to my mouth for the briefest second before he seemed to catch himself.

“There.” He cleared his throat and pulled back abruptly.

“Thanks,” I muttered. I felt so stupid for having my head all swirly around him, but he was so attractive that sometimes I forget what a dick he is.

The drive was quiet at first. Leah’s soft snores filled the backseat. Neither of us said another word.

“She doesn’t usually drink this much.” His voice cut through the silence.

I looked back at Leah, who was hugging the seatbelt in her sleep.

“It was a party.”

“Mm.” he mumbled “You were supposed to keep an eye on her.”

I turned to face him, with a dry, defiant look.

“I’m sorry?”

He kept his eyes on the road.

“You heard me.”

A laugh escaped me.

“So this is my fault now?”

“I didn’t say that.”

“You didn’t have to, its always my fault” I say glaring at him.

His jaw tightened. “I didn't say that, but you just always have a talent for getting her into trouble.”

That one landed.

Of course.

Same old Knox, I was never good enough to be friends with his sister—the girl with the alcoholic mom.

The butterflies I’d felt barely a minute ago shriveled up and died on the spot.

I turned back to the window. I didn’t even bother arguing.

It was exhausting trying to defend myself to someone who’d already made up his mind about me.

Outside, the streetlights blurred into long streaks of gold.

For one stupid moment, I’d actually believed Leah, maybe he had changed. Maybe helping me in the club, defending me. Maybe even that conversation outside had meant something.

It hadn’t.

Knox Tatum was still the same bully I’d grown up with.

And I wasn’t stupid enough to forget it again.

Paige's POVMy heart somersaults so hard it’s embarrassing. I’ve spent the whole day forcing myself not to think about this guy, and now here he is in the flesh, his hands wrapped around my waist. For one stupid second, I wanted to melt into him. Feel his solid body on my skin, I couldn't forget how badly he had brought me to climax the other day. I caught myself and stiffened.I turned my head, glaring at him.“What the fuck are you doing?” I whispered, his glistening lips just inches away from mine, my thighs clenched. He barely looked at me. His mouth brushed close to my ear. Goosebumps ran all over me. “Just play along.” I frowned. “I’m saving you.”Before I could respond, he looked at Jimmy. Shaking his hand. “Thanks for keeping my girlfriend company.”Jimmy’s eyes widened.“Wait. You’re Knox Tatum?”Knox gave him a brief nod.“Yeah, that's me.” I rolled my eyes, such a show-off. “Damn. I’m a huge fan, man.”“Appreciate it.”Jimmy looked between us, suddenly looking a littl

Paige's POV I stared at the screen.No.There was absolutely no way in hell that, out of all the sports departments, I had been assigned to the hockey team. And worst of all—Knox fucking Tatum. But there it was.Staring right back at me.Absolutely not.I was not going to spend the rest of this semester babying Knox or helping the hockey team- and Mike was there too. And after what happened between Knox and me? There was no way I could spend that much time around him and pretend nothing had happened.I needed distance from Knox.First thing Monday morning, I would speak to Professor Jules and ask if there was any way I could be assigned to another sports team. She wasn’t exactly the kind of professor you could walk into her office and expect to hear, Of course, Paige. Let’s find you something else. She’d probably tell me to suck it up and do my job.But there was no way I could spend the rest of the semester around both of them and pretend nothing had happened.I closed my laptop and

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 24- Law girl era

Paige's POVI could usually hold my own in most situations. I’d never suffered from anxiety, and very little scared me—not even growing up with an alcoholic mother who seemed to love alcohol more than she loved me.But Professor Jules? She scares me. And, somehow, she also had my complete respect.I had slept past my alarm this morning. Normally, the bus ride to campus took thirty minutes. Today, thanks to the roads being an absolute nightmare, it took nearly an hour and a half.By the time the bus finally found a parking spot, I was already fifteen minutes late.Another five minutes passed before I made it across campus and stopped outside Professor Jules’s office, my nerves wound tighter than piano wire.I knocked once before pushing the door open.“Hi, ma’am. I’m so sorry I’m late,” Professor Jules glanced up from her desk.“It's ok Paige, Sit down” she smiled sweetly, pointing to the chair across from her, “I’m so glad you arrived in one piece, the roads were a nightmare today.”I

Knox's POVI’d had enough experience to know there were different kinds of sex.Sweet. Rough. Reckless.I thought I knew what I liked. I thought I knew how to separate sex from emotion. Then there was Paige. And somehow, one night with her had managed to fuck up every rule I’d ever made for myself.Paige's Image kept running in a loop in my mind. Her flushed cheeks and trembling body, her screaming my name as she came all over my cock. I adjusted my pants discreetly. Paige and I hadn’t seen each other since that morning, but days later, I still couldn’t seem to shake the need for her.“Earth to Knox” Leah snapped her fingers in front of my face. “You there? Or are you already back in the States?” she teased.I forced myself back into the present. It was one of the rare days I wasn't swamped with hockey and she wasn't with her music, so we’d scheduled a catch-up over lunch.“Yeah.” I sipped my coffee“So you’re really not giving me your card?”I looked up from my coffee. Leah was star

Paige’s POVMy entire body froze.I stared at the door, my heart hammering against my ribs.Fuck.My eyes darted around the room.My clothes were on. Nothing looked obviously suspicious. Knox was still in the shower. If Leah walked into this room and he stepped out of that bathroom, I was officially dead.“Paige?” she called again, knocking. “Are you there?”I grabbed my bag and hurried to the door, opening it just enough to slip through before pulling it shut behind me.Leah stood there, worry written all over her face.“Oh my God. Are you okay?” She immediately reached for my arm. “I’m fine,” I said quickly, trying to avoid looking at her.“You scared me. I’m so sorry I didn’t pick up yesterday. My practical ran until evening and—”“I know. I’m okay now.” I gave her my best reassuring smile. She linked her arm through mine as we headed downstairs.“I’m just so tired. I have a deadline coming up for that song I’m writing, remember?”“Yeah, I remember.”“And I have absolutely nothin

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 21- Good girl

Paige's POVFor one suspended heartbeat, I forgot how to breathe.Knox curled his hand around the back of my neck, holding me captive while he plundered my mouth. His lips are hard, rough, and demanding. He doesn't ease in. He devours. He kissed the way we fought. Hard. Explosive.I regained control of my limbs and raised my hands to push him away, but to my surprise, I fisted his hair instead. I kissed him back with the same desperation. I hate that I want him so badly. It had never felt like this with Mike.“Say you want me to stop, and I'll stop.” His whisper ghosted over my lips, its softness a sharp contrast to the force with which he tugged on my hair.“I want—” “What was that Midget?” he murmured. “Fuck you” I hissed. He grins.“I already know what you want, Midget.” He closed his teeth around my bottom lip and tugged hard enough to send another twin frisson of pain and pleasure spiraling through my body. “No need to beg for it.”I finally shoved him off me, “I will never be
