MALIA’S POV. For the first time, Emil’s mask cracked. Only for a second. His jaw tightened. Eyes darkened. The hand resting on the chair stopped moving. “Malia.” My name left his mouth lower than before. Not a command. Not anger. Something else. But I refused to let myself wonder what. Everyone here had heard me. Everyone here would remember. My eyes locked with his. “You wanted freedom from me just as much as I wanted freedom from you. Let’s call it as it is and end it. ” His gaze sharpened. “You believe that?” I almost laughed. “Does it matter?” The muscles in his jaw moved. For a moment, it looked like he wanted to say something. Then pride won. He leaned back slowly, his expression turning cold again. “If that is your choice…” His voice was quiet. “Then you will no longer receive the elders’ protection.” My brows pulled together. “Guards.” The single word made my blood run cold. Two guards stepped forward. “Take Malia to the cells.” “What?”

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   33: THE REJECTION

MALIA’S POV The cold hit me before I even realized I was awake. A sharp gasp tore from my throat as freezing water soaked through my nightgown, sending a shock through my entire body. My eyes snapped open, blinking rapidly as I tried to make sense of the figure standing beside my bed. “Wake up,” Grace spat. I pushed myself upright, my breathing uneven as water dripped from my hair and down my face. For a moment, I only stared at her, waiting for the softness I used to see in her expression. It never came. “You have been summoned to the courtyard.” The words were simple, but the way she said them made my stomach tighten. Before I could ask why, she turned away. The door slammed shut behind her. I remained frozen for a few seconds, staring at the wooden door as the sound echoed through the room. After last night, there was only one reason the elders would summon me like this. They had already decided my fate. I slowly stepped off the bed, my wet nightgown clinging uncomfor

MALIA’S POV.I raised an eyebrow.“What are you hiding?”Anna’s eyes widened instantly hiding her hand to her back more.“Nothing.”"Anna..." I bit back a smile. "Are you absolutely sure there's nothing behind your back?""Yes." The answer came a little too fast."Hmm." I tapped my chin. "That's unfortunate."Her eyes narrowed suspiciously."Why?""Because I was hoping best friends didn't keep secrets from each other."The little liar crumbled instantly. With an exaggerated sigh, she pulled a small container from behind her back.Ointment.My smile disappeared. The child shuffled closer. “I wanted to go to the bathroom, but I saw your ankle…”My gaze dropped to the ointment before returning to her face. Anna suddenly looked very interested in the floor. “You were limping.”Something painful tightened in my chest. Because out of everyone in this entire pack…She was the only one who noticed. The only one.I swallowed hard. “T-Thank you.”A bright smile immediately spread across her face

MALIA’S POV.The moment Blake disappeared through the front doors carrying Juna, the room erupted into noise.Voices overlapped. Questions flew from every direction. Some wolves rushed after them while others remained behind, whispering among themselves. Not a single person asked if I was alright.I stood there for a moment, staring at the empty doorway where Blake had vanished, waiting for someone to say something.Anything.Waiting for Zara to speak.Waiting for one person to point out that I had barely touched Juna.No one did.The looks directed at me said enough. Disappointment. Disgust. Accusation. As if they had already decided I was guilty. A bitter laugh almost escaped me. After everything, it still hurt. But at least I’m used to it by now.Without another word, I turned and headed upstairs. My ankle screamed with every step. The pain had grown steadily worse throughout the drive home, but now that the adrenaline had faded, I could feel every pulse of it.The stairs felt endl

MALIA’S POV.The stranger’s gaze lingered on me for a second longer than necessary. Then, just as quickly, he exhaled through his nose like he’d already decided something.“I guess you have someone to leave with after all,” he said.Something in his tone I couldn’t place. Almost like disappointment he had no right to feel. His hand slipped back into his pocket.“Stay safe,” he said. Then he turned and walked away before I could even process the fact that I hadn’t asked his name yet.I watched him disappear into the darkness. For a second, a small voice urged me to at least get his name. But Zara’s voice cut through the night.“Malia!” she said, grabbing my arm. “Blake brought the car. We need to go now.”I hesitated. My gaze flicked once more toward where he’d disappeared.Empty now.Like he’d never been there at all.My lips pressed into a thin line before I turned back. I don’t know what I expected that to be. But whatever it was… this was for the best.I bit back the wave of pain t

  • The Human Luna: Claimed Too Late   29: THE STRANGER IN BLACK.

MALIA’S POV The stranger immediately turned toward me. He was dressed entirely in black, his expression calm despite the madness unfolding around us. While everyone else seemed frantic, he looked completely in control. His dark eyes swept over me once. "Are you hurt?" The steadiness in his voice grounded me more than it should have. "No," I answered automatically. His gaze dropped to my ankle. One dark eyebrow lifted. For the first time, I noticed he was younger than I'd initially thought. "Liar." Despite everything happening around us, a tiny laugh almost escaped me. Almost. "I'm fine." "You can barely stand." His tone wasn't mocking. Just matter-of-fact. Before I could argue, another crash sounded nearby. His attention shifted immediately toward the disturbance before returning to me. "We need to leave." Something about the certainty in his voice made it impossible to argue. Not that I want to! His hand settled lightly against my waist, ste

MALIA’S POVThe metal cuff scraped harshly against my skin as I twisted my wrist sideways again, forcing myself not to hiss from the sting. Blake had once shown me how to slip free from restraints during emergency training. At the time, I remembered laughing at him for being overly dramatic.Funny,
