Chapter 8

Her father sounded absolutely affronted as though any man should be absolutely honoured to be her husband. After all, she was the only Grint child. The only heiress to the huge family fortune that they had earned from mining. And she was also naturally beautiful when she decided to pay slight attention to her natural assets.

“Why doesn’t he know that you are having his child?” asked Rupert. He sounded positively fumed when he spoke.

“I already told you Dad.” Said Rhonda shaking her head not wanting to reveal the identity of the other parent of her child.” It was a one-time thing for the both of us and things were only going to get messy and I did not want that happening.”

“Is he already married?” asked Rupert in a low voice. That might also be an option when his daughter was being so secretive about the identity of this mystery man.

“No Dad!” said Rhonda as her own vividly blue eyes lasered his with the same ferocity.” It was just a one-time thing. A big mistake in the hindsight for the both of us. We would have both regretted the fact almost immediately. Wrong for both of us. Okay???”

Wrong for Oberon anyway. Oberon Hunter had made it perfectly clear afterwards how appalled he was at being caught up in the moment and making love to the daughter of Rupert Grint. They did not have any blood relation for sure and neither was there any chance but they were annoyingly and strangely connected through families since their very childhood. That was the reason that they both had known each other since so long. It would have definitely made things a lot more complicated, and that was what Oberon had said. Rhonda had also carefully thought about it. No matter what, it would be definitely very difficult.

The spontaneous combustibility of the wild hot sex was something that Rhonda could have cleared out from her mind either.

“Don’t you think he might guess when he sees you with a baby?’ her father still nagged.

“That is extremely unlikely scenario Dad,” mused Rhonda thinking that having sex with anyone at all for now was a thing of past memory which was not going to happen anytime at all. And for Oberon it was sealed compartment which was never going to be touched again ever. “On the whole scenario, we don’t mix socially. We don’t have the same engagements and I am pretty sure that I am not going to take Ruriel to my place of work on a daily basis, which makes it further easier for me. And by the time that it is general knowledge that I have a child the date of his birth will be a blurred memory and there is not going to be any connection to him which anyone could possibly discern,” explained Rhonda.

It was all too complicated, Rhonda realized. Apart from the entanglements at the personal level which complicated things, she was not particularly the type of woman who was chased by Oberon and then bedded them and then discarded like yesterday’s clothes like trash, if not anything else at all. Give their own background, Oberon would loathe the fact that he was connected to her in anyway, let alone an accidental pregnancy. And she was not going to allow him to come close to her son with that amount of cynicism or ounce of hatred.

Oberon was kind of man that people read about in books. He was a self-made man and awfully proud of the fact so he did not all in all believe in the love-hate or marriage entanglements relationships. He had never stuck with any particular woman for this long in a personal relationship except probably his mother. Fatherhood was a sore point in his life and he loathed the fact that he had been such a burden on everyone’s life that he had touched, so Rhonda even shuddered at the sole possibility that what might happen if Oberon came to know that fact that he had a child and especially with her!!

Fierce resentment was going to be the only form of expression that he was going to depict and she was not letting that happen near her Ruriel. Better he remained in the dark.

“You are keeping secrets Rhonds…dangerous secrets…this is not going to end well…not for any of you,” hissed Rupert as he sucked in his breath at his momentary lapse of judgement when Ruriel let out a small discontented sigh as if he sensed the tension in between them.

“It is a recipe for future and sure disaster. A time will come when the boy is going to want to know who his father is. What are you going to tell him then?” Rupert raised his shaggy white brows at his daughter in an accusing manner.” Are you going to tell him lies? Are you going to say that his father is dead?”

“I don’t know Dad. Honestly, I have not thought that far ahead,” said Rhonda with a small sigh.

“You better start thinking about it, Rhonda,” advised her father in a stern voice.” Best get things all straightened out with the father now and because your son has the right to know who he is down the road and it will be utterly criminal to keep that knowledge from him. And you and I both know that these kinds of shocks are not good for him down the road at all,” said Rupert and Rhonda nodded. She knew that her father was speaking from personal experience.

She looked at him trying to guage if it would correct in order to bring up the sensitive and murky past which connected their family with hers and Oberon’s. It was not something which was pretty at all. When it had happened she had not been born at all. It was before her time and when she grew up no one thought it was necessary for her to know. After all it was all in the past and a scandal was never good for kids to be involved. But Rhonda could very well imagine the scar that it had left on her father and also on Oberon in a different way. But all too same.
