Hunter Black, the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, was a wall of pure, curved muscle. Even slumped in the backseat of his SUV, he looked like a predator merely resting between kills. His broad shoulders stretched the fabric of his dark, tailored shirt, and his skin bore the faint, jagged reminders of a dozen border skirmishes. He owned the kind of effortless, heavy power that made other wolves instinctively lower their eyes when he entered a room.

He shifted, eyes fluttering shut to block out his Beta’s drone. "Hunter, we're two hours late," Dan muttered, knuckles white as he gripped the wheel. "The Hais family will take this as an insult. We need this alliance, and I am certain you did not need those two extra hours 'consulting' with Meg before we left."

Hunter did not look up, his massive frame radiating a smug, lingering heat. He simply crossed his arms behind his head and closed his eyes, savoring the memory of his encounter with Meg. "The Hais family values strength, Dan," Hunter replied, his voice, a low, raspy purr that vibrated through the car’s interior. "And they respect a man who knows how to keep his house in order. If they want a leader, they will wait. I wasn't going to leave my bed while Meg was still that preoccupied with me."

Dan let out a sharp, incredulous huff, shaking his head. "One day, your appetite for that girl is going to cost you more than just a punctual arrival. You have the strength to crush any Alpha in this region, but you’re risking our standing over a bed warmer."

Hunter’s eyes snapped open, his grey irises darkening with territorial heat. "Meg stays," he growled. "I don’t care about fated mates or convenient alliances. If the Hais family has a problem with my time, they can take it up with me personally."

"That’s the problem!" Dan barked, swerving the car. "You have the strength to crush any Alpha, but no vision. You’re twenty-four with no heir, no mate, and the Elders flatly rejected your request to choose Meg as your mate and Luna. If you don't find a partner with a bloodline as pure as yours, our position will crumble. The neighboring packs are already calling the Silver Moon Pack a 'dying fire' because you refuse to secure your lineage."

Hunter’s eyes turned a piercing, stormy grey, flashing with a sudden, dangerous intensity. He sat up, the leather seat groaning under the shift of his massive frame "My lineage is strong enough to stand on its own," Hunter growled, his voice a low vibration that made the air in the car feel suddenly thin.

"Is it?" Dan countered, refusing to back down. "The Hais clan holds the direct line to the Moon Goddess. A union between you and one of Alpha Rowan’s daughters would lock down our territory for generations. You’re the strongest Alpha in the north, Hunter, don't let your stubbornness be the thing that keeps us from becoming the most powerful."

Hunter looked out the darkened window at the passing forest, his jaw tight. "I don't need a marriage contract to prove my power. If I take a mate, it will be because she can hold her own against me, not because she’s a political bargaining chip."

"Then find one who can!" Dan retorted, pulling the car to a smooth stop in front of the glittering ballroom entrance. "But for the love of the Moon Goddess, get out of this car and start acting like the Alpha they expect to see."

Hunter stared at the glowing ballroom, the sound of music drifting towards them. He stepped out, his tall, powerful form casting a long shadow, and adjusted his cuffs "Fine," Hunter muttered, his expression hardening into a mask of cold authority "But if I find the company as boring as your lecture, we’re leaving before midnight."

The suffocating glamour of the gala had finally lost its charm after hours for Selene and her younger sister, Anna, sneaking into a room where they changed into jeans and fitted t-shirts and messy bonytail, a chance to breathe and be sisters rather than figures of political currency.

In the meantime, Hunter made his way with his beta Dan toward the Luna Agatha and Alpha Rowan; his apology for their delay was smooth, delivered with a practiced, respectful bow that exuded the exact amount of deference required.

But Hunter was playing a game against masters. While the Royals accepted his words with gracious, serene smiles, there was a steeliness behind their gaze that Hunter couldn't see. They already knew. They knew why Hunter was late, they knew of the woman he kept in his estate, and they knew exactly how his desire controlled his schedule. It was how they had survived for centuries, identifying threats and weaknesses long before they grew into a tangible plan or acts of betrayal.

Hunter was no saint; yet, among the passing encounters, one figure remained constant: Meg. Originally a slave while running from an attack from rogues on her pack. Alpha Hunter claimed her as his, elevated her to his private maid and bed warmer. She was a fixture in his chambers, a quiet presence who knew exactly how he liked his whiskey and how to soothe the restless, predatory hum that vibrated beneath his skin. He moved her from the servant quarters to a beautifully appointed guest room on the private residential floor, placing her suite in the same exclusive line as his own master bedroom.

Hunter was unapologetically clear about his intentions, his loyalty, soul, and title would belong only to his fated mate once she appeared. But he had already decided that even if he were forced into a marriage of convenience for the sake of his pack, he would never cast Meg aside, regardless of who might eventually take the throne at his side fated or not.

EmmaWe ate light dinner, then drove to the bar after.I said, "Dan, sorry if I was mean to you, but you should have picked another place for us, not one you have been to with an ex.”"Emma, babe, I can’t apologize enough. I was looking forward to spending this getaway with you and completely messed it up," he replied in a soft voice.I nodded. "Let’s set some rules: no secrets, no lies, and we accept each other just the way we are."Dan smiled. "I love you just the way you are, baby.""The first time you tell me that you love me!" I whispered."I fell in love with you the second I saw you on that horse, Emma," he said gently.“This morning, I thought you were gone because you didn't like me!” I said sadly. He exclaimed, "WHAT?"He pulled over and gently held my face. "Baby, listen to me. I love you, and I loved our night together so much that it took everything in me not to wake you up this morning and make love to you all over again."I smiled. "Really! Then why did you leave?"", E

EmmaAfter reading Anna’s message, I went back to sleep. When I woke up again, Dan’s side of the bed was empty and cold. I called him in case he was in another room in the suite, but got no answer; even the bathroom was empty. However, his clothes were still in the closet, yet he was gone.Wrapped in the bedsheets, I sat in the same chair by the window where Dan had been last night. From there, I could see a building with a sign that read "Employees Office Entrance." People were still working inside even at this hour—meaning at night, everything inside would be even more visible.Where was he?Did he regret last night? Was I that bad that he left even before he could look me in the eye?I felt conflicted. After last night's intimacy, I thought it would bring us closer now that there were no more barriers. Yet I woke up to this sudden silence, all by myself, to see him gone. It made me feel cheap, broken, used, and pushed aside after I had served my purpose. But deep inside, I knew Da

EmmaThe night before, I got Alpha’s permission to skip training, as I was spending the weekend outside the pack with Dan.I have been called many names; street-smart, tough cookie, the fixer, but never girlfriend. Especially not by someone like Dan. His hot looks caught my eye immediately, but after we got together, I was attracted to how confident, protective, and kind he was. The list of reasons to love him just kept growing. Before this, we met to spend the day together, in the human world away from our packs, and head back at night. He took me everywhere; movies, museums, parks, and bars.On those trips, we ran into women from his past; women in their thirties who knew how to please a man and flirted seductively. Dan ignored them, but when one wouldn't stop and put her hands on his shoulders, he snapped, "Are you too drunk to see I'm with my girlfriend? We fucked once; now get over it and get lost!" Hearing him say that made me realize just how serious he was about us.We’d been

SeleneSelene wakes up in her own bed, her aching body wrapped in sheets while her mind battles between sudden fear and the thrilling memory of freedom. Torn between the terrifying reality of what she has become and a strong, undeniable hunger for the wild power humming in her veins.'Feeling alright?' Belle asked. 'The run was magnificent.'I smiled, though my body protested. 'At first, I thought I was losing my mind. I didn't want to show weakness in front of my parents and loved ones, or make Anna worry and get afraid of the transition experience for when her time comes.'I let out a long sigh. 'The running was amazing indeed, but all my muscles are screaming and aching.'Belle murmured in my mind, ‘The pain will reduce until it's gone completely; the more we shift, the less it will hurt. The panic will fade, but the run is your way to calm yourself, to bond, increase our speed and power, enhance our senses and clear our minds.’'I feel the woods are still calling,' I added softly

ONE DAY TO SHIFTSeleneFor the past two weeks leading up to my shift, my body felt heavy and exhausted while my mind raced with stress. Today, however, I woke up with sudden clarity, humming with energy and a sweet sense of relief. When my father told me to wear training gear that morning, I thought he was sending me to the lake with Kira to keep my mind off HJ. Instead, he led me deep in the forest to a sunny flat ground where hundreds of warriors stood ready; revealing that he was the one secretly leading their training all along. After just a month here, I could feel myself getting stronger, eager to show everyone the new Selene with Belle by my side. That night, I texted Rosie to confirm our plan. She replied that she would message me the moment HJ and Dan left the cabin, leave a note on the counter so they wouldn't worry. As a precaution, I ask her to leave her phone behind as well.We had all been gathered together in the garden afternoon, but one by one the others drifted off

ONE MONTH LATERSeleneIn two weeks, my birthday brings the moment I meet my wolf, a union between human and beast, far beyond any cake or celebration.Anxiety creeps in because HJ won't be here for my first shift, an experience that only happens once but creates a memory I will keep for a lifetime. His betrayal forced me to leave. Instead of having him here with me to ground me, soothe my pain, lose myself in his eyes, and guide me on how to accept my beast, he is gone. As for the rest of the Silver Moon pack, they only ever knew me as Fleur.Feeling nervous, I walked into the garden to ask my parents if Rosie can attend my special day. Though they rarely welcome outsiders, they know how much she means to me."Mother, Father," I say, "It’s almost time, and I need to ask a favor."Father fake ignorance, "What time are you referring to, sweetheart?"Mother blinks innocently. "Time for what, darling?"I cross my arms, "You both know exactly what time it is. Stop pretending."Mother laug
