There were mud prints from boots and paws across the timber floors leading towards the staircase.
The house was quiet and smelt musky and foreign. The feeling that their home that represented a safe place, protecting her and her loved ones from external threats and dangers being invaded by strangers, created a weight in Nueva's chest that nowhere was safe.Nueva stopped and focused. She inhaled deeply and let her senses tell the story and fill in the missing pieces. Her nostrils flooded with the scents from Mira, Marigold, and the Rogue Alpha, their invisible chemical compounds and pheromones painted images in her mind.
Marigold's scent surprised her since Nueva knew she hadn't been to the farmhouse while living there.
