Chapter 9: Background check

He picked up his phone to call his assistant.

“Do a background check on a man called Killian Simmer and his connection with Milana and I want you to do it fast. You have 23 hours to bring me every information I need,” Logan said to his assistant and then hang up the call.

“Young master, to the office?” His chauffeur asked

“No, to the family estate” Logan said

“Right away young master” the chauffeur turned the engine on and drove off.

Killian stopped his car in front of Belle’s apartment building. When the both ladies stepped out of the car, he also came out with them too.

“Thank you for dropping us off Killian” Milana said

“Your welcome”

Milana gave him a small smile before proceeding to head inside but Killain called her back.

“Just a moment Milana, can I speak to you in private”

“Is everything okay?”

“Yes, I just wanted to talk about years ago”

Milana nodded and looked at Belle to excuse them. Belle nodded and went up to their apartment.

“I’m listening,”

“Years ago when you were 16, I boldly came at you letting you know that I liked you as a man. Then I did not think anything was wrong even after I received that punch from your older brother. But after years especially watching my own sister grow, I think I would have done more than a punch if I was your brother. So this is me apologizing again for doing that, although my intentions were sincere but it was the wrong timing because you weren’t of age then. But my feelings for you have remained same and even grew stronger, so I want to let you know that I plan to court you the right way”

Killian had made romantic advances at her even when she had refused years ago until her brother intervened. But here he is telling her that he did not think he was wrong until his sister grew up and he realized he would have done worse? Milana laughed inwardly.

When she saw him at the club she was not happy he was there but then she had to act calm and she was cordial with him since he had apologized in the past before. But now he plans on courting her because now she is of age, if he was a nuisance when she was a teenager then now that she is an adult he will be a triple nuisance.

“Thank you once again for coming to the police station and dropping me home. But I hope this will be the last time because I do not want to be courted by you because I don’t view you in a romantic way, I see you as an old neighbor” Milana said and walked away without waiting for him to reply.

Killian watched her leave and then clenched his fist. He was determined to have her and he will get her. Having this in mind, he got in his car and drove off.

Logan's car pulled up in the large family estate. It was an estate because of the vast acres of land. It takes approximately 30 minutes to get to the main house from the large gate.

The estate is heavily gated and fenced round and reaches the mountain since it is located outside the city. It was a beautiful estate with a flower farm, fountains, etc.

In this estate was where Logan’s parents house was located as well and where the house of his uncle’s were also located.

The Donatello estate has existed for hundreds of years with its descendants dwelling in it together. Every member of the family had their residents inside except him.

He is the first to break that family rule that they all live in one compound even if their houses are separated. His grandfather did all he could to make him live here after his phd overseers and he returned to the country to take full control of the companies his grandfather handed over for him to run. His grandfather went as far as building a mansion for him inside the estate but still he refused to stay, although the mansion is still his and he stays whenever he comes here but he refuses to make it his permanent residence.

The first stop he made was the residence of his second uncle, his father's brother's house. The head maid and other maids in the house bowed their heads in greeting as he made his way to the living room area.

“Welcome young master Logan”

Logan nodded and headed straight upstairs and to the room of his stubborn cousin. That cousin of his has made it her sole priority to give their grandfather a headache. Her parents are presently not in the country and so is her brother so grandfather makes sure to look after her but the young blood in her wants to explore the world in a crazy way that she sneaks out to attend wide parties and go to underground illegal casinos and other dirty places. At 19, she was already wide.

Oliver opened her room door with a key and walked inside to see her sleeping peacefully after what she caused last night. When the maids could not find her in her room that evening they went on a search round the large estate until the CCTV showed her sneaking out through the wastebin vehicle. Imagine her going as far as dirting herself just to leave the estate.

He had to use his people to get CCTV footage in the city before they found her going into the 1980 club.

“Get up young lady, now!!” Logan ordered Kara who was pretending to be asleep. She stood up in fear, panting and shivering when saw Logan's burning gaze , the type she feared.

Her personal maid had informed her that he was coming so she immediately thought of what to do and acted like she was sleeping, but of course the ruthless and smart Logan will know she wasn't.

Logan got closer to her in small but heavy steps that the only thing she could hear was his shoe sound. She shifted back in fear. If there is one person she feared the most it was certainly Logan. He knows her to keep her in her toe but being so stubborn she always goes astray.

Logan held her hand tightly when she tried to run away.

“Logan you are hurting me!!”

Logan tightened his grip “yesterday's event should be the last of your escapades. The next time you try it again I will make sure you go school overseas like your brother and you will never return until you are done with your masters”

Kara widened her eyes, knowing the kind of country he was going to make her go to school and the kind of restrictions she

will get there, she rather obey him and school here.

“Please no Logan” tears fell out of her eyes.

“If you agree to be good, then there will be more need sending you there”

Kara nodded “ I promise to be good”

Logan let go of her hand “Good girl”

When he left she sat on her bed and tears fell from her eyes. Her parents are not in the country and so is her brother which is why Logan and grandfather were in charge of her wellbeing. Funny thing was Logan will still be in charge even if they were here.

She wants to be free to do whatever she wants but going abroad was not an option.

Logan left the house, got into his car and the chauffeur drove into grandfather's residence which is the main family house in the estate. It took 5 minutes of driving to get there, this house has been standing for 150 years with renovations done over the years. It was called the family hut.

He came out of the car when the butler opened the door. Philip was in his 50s and was the present senior butler in the estate that has been working here for years now.

“Welcome home young master Logan” Philip bound his head and Logan nodded in approval.

He headed inside and went straight to his grandfather's study.

His grandfather was busy sitting on his prayer mat, meditating as usual. This is something he does everyday.

Even at 75, he was still very strong

Another thing about the Donatello’s was that they give birth to their children early. It was then the grandchildren of this generation that had broken that rule. Even his father married his mother at the age of 22 when his mother was 20, and gave birth to him when she was 22.

“You are here”

Logan bowed his head, he pulled his shoe off and proceeded to kneel like his grandfather in the same mat. Then placed his hand together and closed his eyes.

“You sent for me, grandfather?”

“Yes I did, it's about my monthly discussion with you”

Logan opened his eyes because he now knew exactly what he was called for. For the past two years his grandfather has been pestering him about marriage, every month he gives him 5 names of noble ladies with documents containing their information and then tells him to go on a date with them to choose the one he would want to marry.

He was agreeing to go on those dates until 6 months ago when he stopped and just chose to pay the women off with any expensive gift they wanted for them to agree to tell his grandfather that they went on a date but they didn't like him. His grandfather knew it was a lie but kept on making him see these women.

“I have 10 options this time, now you have ten beautiful ladies from noble families to pick from” Adam signaled for his assistant Bruno and his assistant brought the information of the women in an envelope and kept it close to Logan.

“Inside that envelope contains their information”.

Logan closed his eyes back without looking at the envelope.

Adam watched him closely and felt something was new and different about his grandson. Usually he will open the envelope to take a look then drop it back and express his displeasure. But today he was not bothering to check it.

“Aren't you going to take a look? You might find the one that will catch your attention at least”

“No need grandfather, I already found the one that caught my attention and would want to marry” Logan said with his eyes still closed.
