The room shimmered. The now familiar feeling of being paralyzed swept over me. Stretching out from the shadow of the tiered shelf with an assortment of plants and supplies, a man’s shadow took form. One long stride brought him in front of me. He was still dressed in the blue and purple button up. As usual it wasn’t button, showing off his muscular physique. My eyes were drawn to the v I could see just above the waistline of his low-slung jeans.
My eyes leisurely wandered back up to his handsome face. Uh oh. It also still had that angry look from earlier. Menacingly he approached me. I’d back away but I was frozen and already against the counter.
“What did I tell you?” He snarled at me. I tried to answer but, he wasn’t letting me speak. “Don’t try to tell me this wasn’t your doing. You are having lunch with him!”
Tilting his head with a hint of danger, he glared at me. His large warm hand cupped my face.
In the kitchen Caspian was leaning against the island talking to Bodhi. He was once again in the skin of a dark-haired white guy with blue eyes. Today he was wearing a light blue button up with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and dark wash jeans. I was thankful the maras always kept their same skins when they popped in. I didn’t want to have to try and figure out who was who. Lena and my friends followed me into the kitchen.“Any word on what mischief the imps have gotten into?” Carissa asked. I was proud at how fast she was adapting to my demon filled life. Lena shook her head as she moved to stand near Bodhi. They weren’t touching yet their body language was intimate. Again, I looked at Caspian with a raised eyebrow. Again, he shook his head. Fine, I’d ask later.“So, they could be off starting a sex cult for all we know?” I asked. The image of the two of them serving amazing food on a silver tray to people having an orgy filled my head. I’d have to find out what kind of foods p
“No clue.” Looking for a distraction, I saw we were in front of the bowling alley. They had a booth in front of it decorated with fall leaves and pumpkins. Hoping that meant they were part of the festival, I drug my glowering demon to it.“Hello!” A too cheery adorable older woman greeted us. She seriously looked like grandma on a cartoon. Bright pink blush stood out on her bright cheeks. Oversized bright blue glasses dangled from a chain around her neck. Huge gold cameo clip on earrings were attached to her ears. Tight white curls that looked like they were just out of their rollers finished the look. All believable until you looked at her exposed skin. “Five tickets each gives you the chance to vanquish your demons!”The four of us exchanged amused looks. Then handed her twenty tickets. On my way past I told her I loved her costume. Her squeal of delight made me think she was not legal to drink yet. Shaking my head we went inside the bowling alley.Inside we found it had been decora
At the booth marking the entrance to the festival, we paid our entrance fee. Then ten feet in, we bought multiple rolls of tickets. The air was full of tantalizing aromas. BBQ, Tex-Mex, and deep fried goodness hung in the air. A passing cart had cotton candy and giant pretzels on it. We all declined the vendors wares. None of us were hungry yet.Deciding to start with games, we went for the ball toss. Well Caspian did. The three humans knew the game was rigged. But we didn’t share that knowledge.“I will get you a giant teddy bear, Querida.” He told me smugly. Confidently he walked up to the counter.“I’m sure you will try, Love.” I had to fight to keep the smile off my face. I kissed his cheek. “For luck.”He smiled as he took one of the three balls the attendant handed him. The ball flew through the air, hit the bottles stacked up, and only one of the six bottles fell. Caspian frowned. Then grabbed another ball. Same thing. I saw the irritation in his eyes. Then he nodded. Threw the
She looked at Ace and Carissa. “Please excuse the interruption.” She looked over at me and Caspian. “I was hoping to discuss whatever Kerrigan and Kensington have been getting up to lately.”“Lena, this is my friends Ace and Carissa Carter.” I pointed at my friends. Then at the new comer. “Guys this our friend Lena.”Lena looked us over. Then there was a shimmer. Her cute dancing pineapple PJs were gone. Now she was wearing an adorable red and brown plaid fitted shirt under dark wash denim overall shorts. Adorable brown boots completed the ensemble. Her blonde curls were pulled up in a high ponytail showing off silver chandelier earrings.“That settles it!” Carissa exclaimed. “Maras are just freaking cool!”Ace was grinning as he looked at the succubus.“You got grounded for cheating on her in her dreams, what do you think drooling over a sex demon is going to get you?” I scoffed as Ace’s face contorted. I’d guess Carissa did something under the table. My eyes flicked back to my BFF.
My phone went off with a text from Carissa letting me know they were here. Smiling nervously, I took Caspian’s hand. We were out on the deck sipping coffee while waiting for my best friend and her sex fiend of a husband to arrive. Here we go. I’m introducing some of the most important people in my life today. My soul mate and my soul sister. What could go wrong.Caspian opened the front door as Ace was helping Carissa out of the car. As she was closing her car door, Ace gathered their luggage from the trunk of the rental sedan. Caspian went to help Ace while I hugged Carissa.Ace seemed happy to have the help. The boys pulled out four suitcases. I raised an eyebrow at my BFF. “How long are you staying?”“Only the weekend.” She snickered at my disbelieving look. “Hey half of those are his.” She pointed at her husband. “He has move product than I do.”I looked her husband over with a chuckle. At just over six foot he didn’t look short next to Caspian’s six two. They had a similar build
Once again spent, he slumped on top of me. His face buried in my neck. As our breathing returned to normal, he dropped a quick kiss on my lips. Snickering, he untied my hands. As I made a show of rubbing my wrists I cocked an eyebrow at him. “You know you could have just frozen me, right?”“If I’m going to be human, I need to learn to do things the human way.” He cackled at me. “Besides, I’ve always wanted to try that. So much more fun I must say.”He might not have used his powers to freeze me, but his words did. Somehow, I’d blocked out the whole him becoming human thing. I couldn’t even comprehend what that meant. “Do you want to be human?”He kissed my forward gently. “I want to be whatever lets me be with you.”That warm fuzzy feeling poured out of my soul again. It was going to take some time to get used to how strong I felt for this man. I grabbed his beard to pull him down for a toe curling kiss.Once we parted, he laid his forehead on mine. Our eyes were closed as we breathed
