Red Headed Plonker

-NATHAN-

“Stella, get me a new blazer immediately!” I barked at my assistant as soon as I stepped into the building. I walked straight to the elevator ignoring the glances of my employees but in my hurry I hit my head on the doors of the elevator. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!!!! I am sure Stella can see my anger because she frantically nodded her head and rushed God knows where. If I didn’t get a new blazer within the next 3 minutes Stella will be packing her box out of her ‘personal office’.

I really think I am spoiling my employees with all these facilities or more like my father spoilt them beforehand. I removed the stained blazer and fixed my tie again. I could feel annoying glances at me and I am not pleased.

"Is there a photo shoot going on?” I snapped and a few of them shook their head. “Then what are you all staring at?" I screamed at the others making them shake their heads and go back to their desks. Fury is the only emotion in my veins right now.

2 minutes 30s, I counted in my head as my private elevator opened and Stella stood in front of me with a new spruce blue blazer well all I have to say is that she is lucky she found one that suited my pants. I took it from her shivering hands and started to give her my stained one but stopped myself. “Stop shivering, will you?” I asked annoyed.

“Ye...Yes s...sir.” she stammered making me give her a look that said stop messing with me. “I am sorry sir.” I passed her the ruined blazer and she took it without a word but I could see her hands shaking and the beads of sweat on her forehead.

“Stella, being my cousin doesn’t entail you with special treatment. You are like anyone else and also you have to learn to be strong enough if you want to reach somewhere in life.” I said while walking to my office.

“I know Nathan…I am sorry ‘sir’. But if you don’t mind me asking what happened to your jacket?” Obviously she was confused because I wasn’t anywhere near clumsy and liked my things trim and proper. I ran a hand through my hair trying to not curse at that woman but couldn’t help let out a few.

“A clumsy idiot clashed with me. Spare the details for later I have a meeting now don’t I?” she nodded and took her notepad and followed me into the board room where I was going to meet with Mr. Charles, a witty fellow yet drowning in debt.

“Sir the market we have in Greece is slightly on the lower side.” She said passing me the files. Pinching the bridge of my nose trying not to tear these papers in two. Maybe I should consider the temper management class that mom keeps bugging me about.

“Stella I want to meet with the chief accountant, ASAP.” She nodded already taking her phone to text. I am not running this company to see a fall in the charts and if my employee doesn’t understand that then I don’t need him in here.

I entered the board room and saw Charles slumped on his seat and clasping his hands together in anticipation. Hearing the sound of the door he stood up and shook hands with me and then smiled showing one of his yellow teeth. “Looking as young as ever, Mr. Dominic.” 30 isn’t old you dimwit but I kept that remark to myself.

“I apologize for the delay but let’s not waste another minute and get started. 80%”  I said getting straight to the point. It always help to start high. I wanted 75% of his shares if he wanted me to help his company but the man wouldn’t budge from 10%. One hour of bargain but both parties wasn’t ready to compromise. I could buy off his company saving both of our time but I have always preferred to give them a chance before taking it all. His lawyer was ten minutes late even when I delayed by a minute that just shows the tardiness of the company yet I didn’t comment on it.

“Look I have another important meeting so here’s my final deal for you, 60% and the rest is yours. Take it or leave it.” I said in a warning tone keeping an eye on the clock. Five minutes before 10 and my next client awaits, I silently asked Stella to bring in the contract papers she looked at me doubtfully but I am confident that the deal is ours. Her job is to make sure we get the deal and keep a confident face throughout not a stupid confused one.

I stood up in an attempt to leave but just then Mr. Charles sighed dejectedly and signed the papers. He stood up and locked eyes with me with a fake smile when I could clearly see the danger and contempt lurking behind them. “It was a pleasure doing business with you today.”

“Same Mr. Dominic but you don’t know who you are playing with, let me tell you, the result won’t be pleasing.” I smirked and removed my hands from his tight grip.

“Samuel Charles, do I look scared? I have dealt with many like you which is why I am here now standing with my head up and you having lost most part of your company. I believe in success more than anything and the contract proves who leaves this room satisfied and full of glee. Like I mentioned I have another meeting but you should take care.” I walked out of the room and Stella like always hurried to keep up with me.

“You have to learn to have some confidence if I don’t see that in you by the end of the month consider yourself fired.” She mumbled a quick apology and gave the accounting files from Greece. I had a minute and a half to look at the files before leaving to the Paradise for the meeting. “James I want you to get the car ready.” I ordered my driver and continued going through the files. Just a coffee and a stubborn man had managed to make me rush through things unlike the calm atmosphere I liked.

“Sir your mother is here.” I looked up from my file and was about to tell her to wait when my darling mother barged in.

“Mom, I have to be somewhere in less than a minute.” I said sighing but she just stared past me to Stella.

“Stella be a dear and tell these clients to wait a tad for I have to speak to my son.” She said her British accent coming through.

“Stella you will do nothing of that sort.” I said firmly but when did my mother ever listen.

“Son this is still your father’s company so fixate your tushy on that chair and quit being a plonker (idiot).” She scolded as if I am kid. Sighing frustrated at her I asked Stella to do what she just said.

Once she left I sat back in my chair and frowned at mom. “Natty don’t frown now.” I scowled when she said Natty, she knew I hated it but still used it every now and then.

“I heard that you were not in the best of your spirits today morning.” I wonder who gives her all this information. If I have ever learned from past experiences I had to say it was Stella.

“Mom, get rid of that coat and take a seat.” I said taking her coat and leaving it on the hanger before sitting back and recounting my morning. “A red headed plonker spilled coffee on my jacket also to add to all that the car broke down but I am madder at that girl.” I explained. Doesn’t she even know who I am?

I took a file from the table that had come from the account section and started going through it while my mother simply stared at me in silence. This is really messed up.

“So this plonker that you say is a girl?” the interest evident in her voice. I looked up from the file.

“Is that all you gather from what I said?” Frowning I took my pen and marked areas where there was a mistake. I didn’t pay this people to make mistakes. He is fired whether he makes it on time here or not. One week I don’t check the reports and the charts fall, I am sure I will find a better and more qualified for this accountant’s post. I guess I will have to stop by the Watches Company to check their accounting as well now. Fuck!

“Natty get rid of that file when I am talking to you or else I will pinch your ears till you listen. Now, tell me more about this woman you have met.” She pressed making me even more annoyed. I closed the file and looked at her trying my best to keep my annoyance at bay.

“Mom I didn’t meet her, we crashed into each other and I didn’t notice her to give you any details. For heaven’s sake I don’t even know her name.” if anything I would put some sense into that girl and I am sure she is nothing worth to look at but when has my mother understood that girls fall for me and not me for them. She knows I stay away from love and related stuff from my previous experience. I looked at my mother who was glancing at me skeptically.

“Mother I have to go for this meeting like I said before so...” I silently indicated for her to leave but she ignored me.

“Natty you are coming for lunch and staying for dinner tomorrow. Shush, I don’t want any excuses also bring your girlfriend or else you know what your father will do.” Saying that she took her purse back and left the room with an air of pride. Girlfriend? Which one is she talking about? I don’t date and she knows that.

I grabbed my phone and called the first person I could think of. “Lara, be ready by 7 tomorrow I will explain details later.”

“Sure baby anything for you.” At least I might end up having a fun night. A knock made me look up and Stella was standing there staring at me.

“Sir, James is waiting for you.” I nodded and stood up and followed her out. “Sir?”

“Yes.”

“You have an interview with The Daily tomorrow at 5.” Hate the media. Always bugging into other’s lives. I can’t say about the interview to my mother or else she will think it is another excuse. I am already planning to skip lunch and only attend dinner so… Also I don’t give a shit about reporters.

“Postpone it to tomorrow or maybe the day after whenever I am free.” She nodded and we continued preparing ourselves for the next client. “Just let me know when it is. Don’t forget about it.” I warned her. Poker and authoritative face was back on.
