Chapter 1

作者: Peachy
The fight for Grandpa’s fortune began the second his funeral ended. The arguments were just heating up when a freak blizzard rolled in, trapping us all in the estate.

"I told you we should've split the money and run!" Sarah shrieked. "But no, you all had to fight. Now look at the snow! We're trapped for a week!"

Grandpa was barely in the ground, and the estate was already a war zone of complaints.

Everyone wanted the biggest piece of the pie. They were ready to draw blood for it.

"Don't say that, Sarah." My stepbrother, Liam, glided over, a reassuring smile on his flawless face. "It's rare for us all to be together. Grandpa wouldn't want us fighting like this."

He always knew the right thing to say.

At twenty-eight, Liam was the family's golden boy. He'd been groomed to take over the family empire.

I turned to leave, but a piercing electronic chime stopped me.

Everyone’s phone went off at once.

"What?" Liam’s fiancée, Chloe, frowned, moving closer to his side.

I looked down at my phone.

A blood-red scale appeared on the screen.

[Welcome to The Last Zombie: Final Reckoning.]

[Detected: 15 members of the Sterling family.]

[Objective: Eliminate all zombies. The last player standing inherits the entire family fortune.]

[Current Asset Valuation: $12.7 Billion.]

The living room went dead silent.

"What kind of sick joke is this?" Liam tried to close the app, but the screen wouldn't budge. "Who made this?"

[Exit Denied.]

[Forced Binding in Progress...]

[Binding Complete.]

I tried hitting the home button. Nothing.

The app had taken over my phone completely.

"This has to be a hacker," Uncle Marcus snapped, fumbling with his phone. "I'm calling the cops."

"No signal," Aunt Linda's voice trembled. "The lines are dead. All of them."

Liam cleared his throat. His natural leadership made him the center of attention. "Everyone, calm down. This has to be a technical glitch. Or someone's prank."

[As a show of good faith, a one-million-dollar reward will now be transferred to each player.]

[Please check your balance.]

My banking app pinged with a new notification.

A million dollars.

The room erupted. Everyone was frantically checking their phones.

"Oh my god, it's real!"

"This is impossible!"

"A million dollars! It's really here!"

Liam’s face went pale. He knew.

[Phase 1: Choose Your Sanctuary.]

[Option A: The Main House - Ample supplies, wide view, accommodates 10 people.]

[Option B: The Hunting Lodge - Contains an armory, well-defended, accommodates 8 people.]

[Option C: The Recording Studio - Underground, soundproof, accommodates 2 people.]

[Selection Time: 10 minutes.]

[Countdown has begun.]

"This is easy," Liam said, his composure returning. "We choose the main house. It's the safest, with the most supplies."

The others nodded in agreement.

"Right, we should stick together."

"The main house has a security system."

"And enough food to last until help arrives."

I listened to them talk.

Then I made my choice.

"I choose C."

Every head in the room snapped toward me.

"What?" Liam's eyes widened. "Ava, are you kidding me?"

"The recording studio?" Chloe scoffed, wrapping her arm around Liam’s. "It's a tiny, dark hole. Liam, darling, can you believe her? Is she insane?"

As an architect, I knew every corner of this estate.

Grandpa built that studio when he was young. It had the best soundproofing money could buy and its own ventilation system.

[Player Ava has chosen: The Recording Studio.]

[Time remaining: 8 minutes.]

"Ava, this is a bad idea." Liam walked up to me, his blue eyes filled with concern. "We need to stay together. Protect each other."

"She's just trying to get your attention, Liam," Chloe rolled her eyes, her voice laced with annoyance. "Such a classic, pathetic move."

The other family members started whispering.

"Let her go."

"She was always the weird one."

"We don't need a liability."

[Selection time has ended.]

[Sanctuary assignments are complete.]

[Player Groups:]

[Main House: Liam, Chloe, Sarah, Marcus, Linda, and 7 others.]

[Hunting Lodge: Unclaimed.]

[Recording Studio: Ava.]

Chloe glanced at the list, a smug smirk on her face.

She flicked on the family channel's live stream, grinning into her phone's camera.

"Oh, darlings!" her voice dripped with fake sweetness. "Looks like our little architect wants to go play in her dark little box!"

She tightened her grip on Liam’s arm, her eyes full of possessiveness masked as flirtation.

"Oh, let her go, honey," she purred to Liam. "We'll be up here having our apocalypse party. We can handle a few zombies without Miss Misery ruining the mood."

Day seven.[System Alert: Final Phase has begun.][Silent Survival][Countdown: 24 Hours][Victory Condition: Keep your team intact until time runs out.]There were only two of us left in the recording studio.Chloe kicked off her heels and curled up on the sofa.I added a few logs to the fireplace, the warm glow dancing in the sealed room.No more cameras. No more audience. No more enemies to deceive. For the first time, we could let go of all our masks.I watched the fire and remembered the morning I was reborn.I woke up screaming the day after Grandpa’s funeral. Drenched in cold sweat.Everything in the dream had been so real—the zombies’ roars, my family’s betrayal, the final, desperate pain as Liam pushed me into the horde to save himself. But when I looked at the calendar, I realized something.I had been reborn.I was back before the game even started. The first person to confirm my suspicions was Chloe. She sent me a text that morning: “Our dear Liam is going to have an intere

“Finally!”Liam’s face twisted into a grotesque grin as he saw the door open. His half-turned face looked monstrous in the dim light.“I knew you’d see reason!” He stumbled forward, trying to rush into the studio. “We can…”I sidestepped him without a word.“What?” Liam froze, his outstretched hand grabbing at empty air. “Ava?”Just then, a figure stepped out from the shadows of the studio.Chloe.She was holding an iron pipe from the generator room, and she swung it without hesitation at the back of Liam’s head.WHACK!Liam, caught completely off guard, crumpled to the floor. His half-turned body kept him from being knocked out completely, but he couldn’t move.“What… what’s going on…” he mumbled from the floor, blood pouring from his head, his eyes filled with confusion. “Chloe? Why are you…”“Why am I here?” Chloe kicked him hard in the ribs. She looked down at him, her smile pure, frozen venom. “Because we're teammates, darling.”“Teammates?” Liam looked at me in disbelief. “Ava? W

Day six. The blizzard had lightened, but the killing continued.[System Alert: Phase 2 is nearing its end.][Current Survivors: 3][Ava, Liam, Chloe]I looked at the notification, a little surprised.Liam was still alive?I checked the monitors and saw the carnage in the generator room. Tom and Linda’s bodies were mangled on the floor, but Liam was gone. His teleport ability had saved his life at the last second. The noise had messed with his accuracy, but he had managed to escape. The price was that he was now in a half-turned state.I found him on the monitors. He was staggering around outside the main house, his movements stiff, but he still had his basic intelligence. The virus was active in his body, but it hadn’t completely taken over his mind. That made him even more dangerous. He had the strength of the dead, but the mind of a predator. Vengeful. Cunning. My communication system pinged. Not a channel message, but a direct impact.Someone was banging on the door to the recording

Day five. Dead silence. No one had spoken on the channel for a long time. After Liam’s threat, a desperate silence had fallen over everyone.Only five survivors remained.I watched the estate through my monitors.Linda and Tom were still hiding in the wine cellar, but their food was almost gone.Liam was pacing back and forth in the second-floor study like a caged animal. As for Chloe, she had been missing for a full day.Just when I thought she might be dead, a faint voice came through the channel.“Help me…”It was Chloe. But she sounded nothing like the arrogant influencer she had been. Her voice was trembling, terrified, full of desperate sobs.“Please… I was wrong… I was so wrong…”The channel went quiet.“Chloe?” Linda’s voice was surprised. “You’re still alive?”“I… I’m not going to make it…” Chloe sobbed. “I’m trapped in the generator room… There are monsters everywhere…”“The generator room?” Tom asked, confused. “What are you doing there?”“I was trying to find a safe place…

Screams echoed from the wine cellar. Linda and Tom.“Marcus! Kevin! Where are you?”“Liam! What happened?”“What’s with that alarm?”But no one answered them.My private messages pinged.[Liam: Done.][Liam: Is there room in the studio now?][Liam: I’m on my way.]His tone was smug. Like he’d just taken out the trash.[Liam: See? My teleport ability is so useful. If we work together, we can easily take care of the rest.][Liam: Linda and Tom are no threat. Chloe has weapons, but she’s no match for us on her own.][Liam: The winner of this game is already decided. It’s us.]I read his messages and felt sick. This was the man I had loved in my past life. This was the “perfect heir” of the Sterling family. He would betray and kill anyone to get what he wanted.Including the family who trusted and followed him.I saved the surveillance feed. Every. Damning. Second.I took screenshots of all the private messages Liam had sent me.Especially the smug, calculating ones.[Liam: Our children wi

Morning, day four. The horde outside had doubled.Through the monitors, I saw them swarming the buildings, their low moans a constant drone.Worse, the family members who had turned inside the house had now joined the horde.Desperate sobs came from the wine cellar.“The dead are wall-to-wall out there!” Linda’s voice was completely hoarse. “We’re never getting out!”“We’ve got food for two more days,” Marcus said weakly. “And then…”“Don’t say it!” Kevin screamed, breaking down. “I don’t want to die!”Just then, my private messages pinged.[Liam: Ava, I need to talk to you alone.][Liam: About our future.]I opened my private chat with him.[Liam: You know, I never really loved Chloe.][Liam: She was just a tool for a family alliance. Grandpa arranged it. I couldn’t refuse.][Liam: But you’re different. You’re smart, calm, a visionary. You’re the partner I’ve always needed.][Liam: This game has proven it. You’re the one who deserves to stand by my side and control the Sterling family
