When Amy opened her eyes she saw herself on a hospital bed. She looked around and saw no familiar faces, she closed her eyes trying to remember what happened but with no luck. She felt confused, but felt relieved when seeing Sean's face not far from there. He was talking to a doctor and as soon as he saw her he rushed to her side. The doctor came with him.
"Amy, how are you feeling?"Sean asked placing a hand on her head.
"Confused. " She answered.
"Doctor, is she really ok?" Sean asked concerned.
"Amy, do you remember what happened to you?" The doctor asked.
"Not really. "
"You were on a school trip with your classmates and an accident at the lab you were visiting happened. You remember that?" The doctor asked.
"I remember some stuff, like a gas coming out and everyone freaking out. " She said staring at them.
"What do her test results show?" Sean asked the doctor who checked his paperwork.
"According to our test results, she's fine. However we would like to keep her one more night for observation. "
"What about the other students? Are they here too?"
"We checked them but all of them looked in perfect condition. They already left."
"So why can't i take my sister home?" Sean asked impatiently.
"She had the strongest impact on the lab, no one else fainted after smelling the gas, just her. That's why we want to observe her a bit more. You are free to take her tomorrow. "
Sean's face showed how unhappy he was. He was in the middle of class when he received a call from the hospital that Amy was in the hospital because of an accident ocurred in the Reptile and Amphibian Laboratory. Since the beginning he had a bad feeling about letting her go to that school trip and decided to ignore it, since she really wanted to go but now he regretted it. He just wanted to scream but unfortunately he couldn't.
"I really don't understand why i can't take her. " Sean exclaimed angrily.
"Sean, let the doctor do his job.He knows what he's doing. Go home, i'll be fine. " Amy said trying to calm her brother.
Sean sighed trying to calm himself, he just wanted to take Amy with him and sadly he couldn't. He just didn't wanted to leave her alone, not especially after what happened to her. For a moment he thought she was about to die, just like their parents and if it happened he would have been devastated.Amy was the only family he had now.
"Whatever happens call me. I'll pick her up early tomorrow. " Sean said to the doctor.
Jonah heard that Amy was in the hospital from the gossiping that Jenna's friends, Helen and Grace were babbling about in the hallway. He was hoping she was fine. He still couldn't understand why he was so intrigued by Amy Wilkes. She was with no doubt pretty, but it was not something on her looks only. She was a mistery to him, she was not like other girls that flirted with him. Instead she looked so quiet, as if she was afraid of him.Jonah wanted to discover what was so mysterious about her. He was focused on his own thoughts he barely listen to his father.
"Why are you so quiet, Jonah? Are you feeling sick? I can take you to the hospital." Richard Parker said as he ate his dinner.
"I'm fine dad, don't worry. " Jonah aswered eating his steak.
Richard Parker was not a bad parent, but he had no idea how to get close to his son after his wife Gabriella died three years ago. To distract himself he got more and more busy with his job, not realizing he was not paying attention to his son who needed him the most. Jonah stopped inviting him to his soccer games since he never attended them because of his office duties or trips. At first he was dissapointed and hurt his dad wouldn't assist, however with time he grew used to this. When Richard heard Jonah was at the hospital after the lab incident he inmediately rushed to see his son, and felt relieved when the doctors told him he was not in any risk.
"Tell me, when is your next soccer game?" Richard asked cleaning his mouth with a napkin.
"In two weeks. Against Weston."
It was a rivalry game. Weston and Mackenzie High Schools were like oil and water, they just wouldn't get along. For years both schools pranked each other before games, and this year was no exception as they were both competitive. The Mackenzie soccer team knew it and wanted to be alert to anything new that happened.
"Why haven't you said anything to me?" Richard asked surprised.
"Why would it make a difference? Not as if you would assist. "Jonah looked at his dad with an intense look.
"It wouldn't be nice to ask me at least?"
"Why i should i bother? You are always busy, your answer will always be no."Jonah said standing up to the kitchen and taking his dish.
"Jonah, i have to work to mantain both of us,pay bills and pay Natasha to clean the house. You know it very well, you are not a kid.You expect me to quit my job?"
Jonah felt to tired to argue, it was a long day for him and all he wanted to do was to go to sleep. He was not in the mood for this, he had to many things in his head.
"Good night dad, see you tomorrow." He said going upstairs to his room not even giving a glance to his dad.
Next day Amy was picked up from the hospital by Sean, just as he promised. Amy was just as glad as Sean from leaving that hospital. All she wanted to do was going back to her normal life.Sean walked with her to the parking lot where he parked his black volvo.
"Are you hungry?"He asked.
"Starving."
"Where would you like to go?" He asked while buckling his seat belt.
"Anywhere is fine for me. What about your job? They gave you a free day?"
"I asked permission to be absent, they understood when i told them what happened to you. I will also call the school to tell them you are skipping some days for you to recover well. I'll be watching you for a day or two."
"Sean, you heard the doctor. I have no health issues, there's no need for me to skip school. "
"Amy, i almost had a heart attack when i was told you had an accident at that lab.I thought i lost you. Try to understand me.I even feel like suing either the school or the lab for what happened. Or even both for what matters. " Sean said with anger in his voice.
"I do understand Sean, but please don't treat me as if i'm disabled because i'm not. I feel fine to go to school, and you shouldn't miss your job either. All what matters now is that i'm okay. "
"You really feel ok to go to school tomorrow?" He asked unconvinced.
"I do. Trust me."
Sean kept thinking for some seconds before answering.Amy was just hoping she would receive a positive answer from him.
"Fine, i trust you. Tomorrow you can go to school, but if something happens you have to call me as soon as possible.Okay?"
"I promise. " Amy answered making a pinky promise with him.
Next day Amy felt the looks on her as she walked on the school aisles. She payed no attention to them and walked directly to Dana's locker, who was applying lip gloss on a small mirror she glued to her locker door. Amy gently tapped her shoulder and Dana inmediately hugged her for a long time.
"I'm so glad you're back, i have missed you. " Dana said letting her go.
"Me too, i'm happy to see you again.Mind walking with me to my locker? "
"Sure. I freaked out when i heard what happened to you. Are you all right?"
" I am, what about you?I never saw you afterwards. "
"I was told to evacuate the place, just as everyone else.I was checked too at the hospital but my results showed nothing to worry about.I have to tell you, i finally got revenge on Jenna for hitting you on PE class. " Dana said with a smile on her face.
"What did you do?" Amy whispered.
"I managed to open her locker and place an ink bomb. Imagine all the ink that splattered over her, it was so freaking hilarious. I wished you would have seen it, it's a shame you didn't come yesterday. "
They arrived to Amy's locker and she saw a small white teddy bear measuring at least six inches with a heart on it's chest that said "Get Well Soon ". Amy felt touched by the gesture her best friend had for her.
"Thanks Dana, it's lovely. You shouldn't have bothered. " Amy said showing the teddy bear to Dana.
"Amy, it wasn't me who placed that teddy bear in your locker. " Dana answered shaking her head.
"No way. Who else then?"
"I have no idea, all i can tell you is it wasn't me. "
Amy stared at the teddy bear. In that moment she wished the bear would speak and tell her who placed it there. The bell rang and she placed it again on the locker, thinking in taking it home later. Before she left for class she changed the combination of her lock, hoping that person wouldn't dare to touch her locker again. As she entered to the classroom she kept wondering who placed the bear in there.
Amy had trouble focusing in her classes as she had no idea who placed the teddy bear in her locker. It was ridiculous to her something like this mattered that much, but it was intriguing at the same time. Who would bother to open her locker and place a teddy bear ? The answer to that question shouldn't be hard, besides from Dana she was not friends with anyone else. This bothered her even at lunch." Can't stop thinking about the bear?" Dana guessed as she gave a bite to the lettuce in her salad. "No, i know it's dumb but I can't stop thinking about it." Amy sighed."Hey, i have a guess of who could have done it. " Dana whispered."Who?""Jonah. ""Nice joke, seriously who do you suspect?" Amy said drinking her water. "I'm serious. Jonah could have as well place it. ""You seriously think Jonah Parker, the popular soccer captain would bother opening my locker and placing a get well soon teddy bear there?""Why not? He speaks to you, somehow, he likes you. Maybe not like like but ye
"Amy, what's wrong?" Sean asked while knocking the door."Nothing." Amy answered trying to calm down." Are you okay? Why did you scream?""It's nothing Sean, i swear. " She tried closing her eyes and opening them to check if she could see herself again on the mirror but with no luck. She had no idea what was happening to her."Amy, if it's necessary i will throw this door away. What is happening inside?" All Amy wanted in that moment was to see able to see herself again and stop lying to her brother. She almost felt like crying when suddenly her reflection appeared again, making her feel calm. She opened the door and faced her brother, who had a worried expression in his face. "Are you ok? " He asked. "Yes, i hit myself when i got out of the shower. That's all. " She said hurrying to her room. "I prepared tea, want some? " He asked concerned. "No thanks, I'm going to bed. " she said opening the room of her door and closing it.Next morning she was at her locker taking out her book
As Jonah came back home driving he couldn't stop thinking about his interaction with Amy Wilkes that day. Isually girls giggled, smiled or even flirted back when he flirted. But not her. She looked nervous and seemed to pretend she didn't see him. Jonah sighed, it was the first time a girl wouldn't fall for him as fast as he thought. He only had a girlfriend in all his life, Lauren Brown, and since then he didn't date anyone else. She left to Los Angeles, to pursue a modeling career, leaving him heartbroken as he had strong feelings for her.He would go out with other girls ocasionally, but nothing serious as no other girl made him feel the way he did with her.Until now. When he arrived home he was greeted by Natasha, their russian maid who was in the kitchen washing dishes. "Good afternoon, Mr. Jonah." Natasha was a woman in her mid thirties. She was tall, blonde, with brown eyes, very beautiful. More than a maid, Natasha was more like a mother to him when his mother died. She would
Amy couldn't believe Jonah Parker pulled her name out and now both of them were to work together. She felt the look of the other girls on her, and she knew it wasn't because they were happy for her. She was thankful none of them had laser eyes or she would be dead already, as all their looks were icy and somehow murderous. When the bell indicating the period was over she rushed to the bathroom as she just wanted to be alone to order her ideas. When she felt calmer she walked to her next class.Lunch was next and she waited patiently for Dana to arrive and tell her everything that happened. She glanced around to see if she could see her but instead her eyes found Jonah, whose eyes also saw her and approached her."Damn. " Amy whispered to herself."So, Wilkes. You and I will be partners in English class." He said leaning a hand on the desk."Yes, we are. " Amy said with a shy smile."We should exchange phone numbers since we will have to talk constantly. What's your number?" He said taki
Jonah stared at his phone expecting to see an answer from Amy, but to his disappointment it never came. He sighed, wondering what he was doing wrong since none of his moves seemed to work with her. Would she have read it already? If she would read it, he would have received a quick answer. He said to himself she was probably asleep, even though as he checked the time it was only nine o'clock. He waited thirty minutes to check if she answered but nothing. He decided he would speak to her tomorrow; it was better that way. He undressed only having his boxer on and went to sleep. Next morning Amy and Sean were having breakfast before leaving. Sean always insisted Amy had to had breakfast before going to school, he took all that stuff about being breakfast the most important meal. He prepared French toasts."Are you ready to go?" Sean said finishing his last French toast and seeing Amy was almost done. "Yeah. I need to ask you something. I have an English assignment with one of my classm
Jonah felt sorry for exploding to Amy the way he did. Last night his dad had a business dinner, and he wasn't really eager to go, but since his father insisted, he went with him to an elegant restaurant. The other men started bragging about their kids, how all of them were Harvard students being lawyers, doctors, engineers etc. However, the conversation later turned to Jonah in an unexpected way."What about you, Jonah?" A guy called Robert asked."I'm the soccer captain in my school. " He answered with a smile."And what about your grades?" another dude whose name was Bryan or Ryan asked. Jonah couldn't remember his name and he didn't really cared."I'm passing my classes. " Jonah said drinking from his water." You are not interested in a scholarship? " Steven asked."I plan on having an athletic scholarship. ""You could do such better with an academic one, you know how jocks are quite successful for a time but when they age their career is over. " Robert said.If it would have bee
As Sean drove her to school that morning Amy tried to memorize the geometry formulas she had not learned the previous night. She would repeat the formulas to herself in a low voice thinking Sean was not listening to her, however she discovered it was not that way from what he said next. "Can you chill? You're stressing me, and I'm not even the one taking that exam." He said as he stopped on a red light."I didn't learn these formulas, i' m nervous. ""Amy, you are a good student. I know you will ace that exam. There's no need to panic."She knew he was right. Her grades wouldn't be lower than a C, but she still tried to raise them, always hoping to do her besy. it frustrated her that her weaknesses were all numerical classes, as she preferred theoretical classes like Literature and History. She decided to follow his advice and calm down. Fifteen minutes later they arrived to Mackenzie North High School, and Amy unbuckled her seat belt. Sean extended his hand containing a twenty-doll
Sean decided to have Chinese food for dinner, so he drove to the restaurant they liked the most. They asked for dumplings, sour and sweet chicken, and wonton. They ate dinner and at the same time they discussed their day, it was something they always did when they lived with their parents, and somehow, they kept that tradition even though it was only the two of them now. It made them feel closer to each other." So, my students got mad at me for having them write an essay since they said there's a huge party this weekend. I told them they have to have their priorities well defined. Can you believe it?Sean was an English teacher at Western Miami University. He enjoyed his job a lot, however he would mention how troublesome his students were. Amy had a great admiration for her brother since he was hardworking and determined: Sean had fifteen years old, and she was ten when their parents died on a plane crash. They were having an important business on Boston and their presence was requi
