Amy had trouble focusing in her classes as she had no idea who placed the teddy bear in her locker. It was ridiculous to her something like this mattered that much, but it was intriguing at the same time. Who would bother to open her locker and place a teddy bear ? The answer to that question shouldn't be hard, besides from Dana she was not friends with anyone else. This bothered her even at lunch.
" Can't stop thinking about the bear?" Dana guessed as she gave a bite to the lettuce in her salad.
"No, i know it's dumb but I can't stop thinking about it." Amy sighed.
"Hey, i have a guess of who could have done it. " Dana whispered.
"Who?"
"Jonah. "
"Nice joke, seriously who do you suspect?" Amy said drinking her water.
"I'm serious. Jonah could have as well place it. "
"You seriously think Jonah Parker, the popular soccer captain would bother opening my locker and placing a get well soon teddy bear there?"
"Why not? He speaks to you, somehow, he likes you. Maybe not like like but yeah he seems to like you. "
"How would he even open my locker?" Amy asked looking nervously to where he was seated. Jonah was talking to his best friends, and before he noticed her watching him, she moved fastly her look.
"In the same way i opened Jenna's locker, YouTube tutorials. It's not really that hard. You know how YouTube has contents of every kind. "
Amy decided to give a break on all the teddy bear issue. She walked to her locker with Dana at the end of the day. She opened her locker and stuffed the bear in her backpack just as the other books she was taking home. She placed it on the back pocket since it didn't fit with all her other stuff.
"So, you decided to keep it?" Dana asked leaning on a locker.
"Yeah, I may never find out who gave it to me, but it was a nice detail. It really is."
"Hot guy coming here. " Dana said in a low voice.
"What are you talking about?" Amy asked.
"Hey Wilkes, got a minute?" A masculine voice said behind Amy. She didn't have to turn to see who it was. She immediately recognized the voice, plus he was the only who called her Wilkes.
"I have to go, my parents are waiting for me outside. See you tomorrow." Dana said to Amy who gave her a killing look for leaving her alone.
"Hi. " Amy answered to Jonah.
"Are you feeling, okay?" He asked smiling at her.
Damn. That smile could melt both the North and South poles, Amy felt weak against it. It was as if he had some ability to disarm her to his will. And he wasn't even trying.
"I'm fine, thanks for asking. "
"Good, that day at the lab I freaked out when seeing you at the floor. "
"It was a scary for all of us, with no doubt. " she said looking at the floor and to him next.
"Before the accident I was about to ask you something. We have an upcoming game against Weston, and I'm planning to celebrate our victory with a party at my place. Would you be interested in coming? it will be the same night of the game, in three weeks."
She heard what he said but she still had trouble believing what he said. It was hard to believe he was seriously inviting her to a party at his house. She even wondered if it was really happening, and it was all about a dream. Amy almost felt tempted to pinch herself to be sure it was all real.
"Sounds fun. " Amy answered not knowing what else to answer.
"Cool, I'll give you more details later. You can invite your friend too."
" Ok. Goodbye." She answered walking away until she heard him calling her again.
"Wilkes, you dropped this. " he said extending his hand towards her that was holding the white teddy bear.
"Thanks. " she said grabbing it from his hand. Their fingers briefly touched, and Amy felt a small spark.
"That's a really cute gift, be sure not to lose it. See you tomorrow. " He answered before leaving.
Amy was enjoying her usual talk with Sean at dinner. Sean was not in the mood for cooking, so he decided to buy pizza. Both of them were starving and seemed to enjoy not only the food but also the company.
"How was your day?" Sean answered grabbing a third slice of pepperoni pizza.
"Quite good. " Amy answered opening a can of coke.
"That's all?" Sean asked surprised.
"I got invited to a party. It's in three weeks, after a soccer game. " She suddenly spilled out.
She knew Sean didn't approved of teen parties, he considered them dangerous because of all the alcohol and crazy stuff that could happened in there. However, she had to make an effort and try to convince Sean to let her go. There might be no more chances in which she got invited by her crush.
"Whose party?" Sean asked in a suspicious voice.
"Jonah Parker. "
"Your crush?"
"Yes."
"No."
"What do you mean with no?"
"You are not allowed to go to that party. "
"Why not?" Amy asked upset.
"Amy, you know very well what i think of those parties. You can get intoxicated, or something worse. I am trying to protect you. "
"And I'm only trying to be normal, what is wrong with that?"
"Who says you're not normal?"
"I have never been in a party with my classmates or to any other school events because you won't let me. I just want to have fun. Please Sean. Just for this time."
"My answer is no. " Sean answered with a firm voice.
Amy felt like screaming but stopped since she knew if she did nothing would change for good, in fact it would be worse. She would end up screaming with Sean, and she would hate herself for that. Beneath all she knew Sean was just trying to be a good brother and protect her as he said, however it frustrated her how overprotective he could be sometimes.
"If you excuse me, I have homework to do. " She stands up from the table and walked to her room.
"Are you finished eating?"
"Not hungry anymore. "
Amy took her cellphone from her backpack and noticed a text message from Dana sent thirty minutes ago.
D: Why haven't you texted me anything about your conversation with Jonah? I'm your BFF after all. 😞
A: Sorry, I was having dinner with Sean .I got mad at him.
D: But first tell me, what did Jonah said to you? I'm dying to know!!!!!
A: He asked me how i was feeling, and later invited me to a party at his house after the Weston game to celebrate the victory. He said you can go too.
D: That's amazing, we have to plan what to wear. Maybe we should go shopping.
A: If only I was allowed to go, Sean said no. 😒
D: Seriously? You have to be kidding me, there is no way we can miss that party. It's your chance to have a full conversation with Jonah.
A: Maybe on some other life it will happen. Sadly. He saw the teddy bear bit didn't even seem to recognize it.
D: What did he said?
A: Just it was a nice gift and not to lose it.
D: I see, there's no hints he did it. But be glad he spoke to you and invited to a party at his place.
A: But iImay not go, that sucks.
D: Relax, we can find a way to convince your brother later. Let's not give up. Gotta go. Sweet dreams.
Amy decided to take a shower to relax from all what happened on the day. She opened the faucet and let the water touch her body making her feel better. When she was done, she placed herself in front of the mirror and combed her hair.
It came to her mind how Jonah invited her today, that definitely made her day and smiled. However, her feelings changed from happiness to sadness remembering Sean did not agreed to let her go to the party. It was unfair from his part not to even consider letting her go.
Suddenly her reflection disappeared from the mirror, and she no longer saw herself. She looked at her hands and she couldn't see them, neither any part of her body. A long-terrified scream came from her mouth.
"Amy, what's wrong?" Sean asked while knocking the door."Nothing." Amy answered trying to calm down." Are you okay? Why did you scream?""It's nothing Sean, i swear. " She tried closing her eyes and opening them to check if she could see herself again on the mirror but with no luck. She had no idea what was happening to her."Amy, if it's necessary i will throw this door away. What is happening inside?" All Amy wanted in that moment was to see able to see herself again and stop lying to her brother. She almost felt like crying when suddenly her reflection appeared again, making her feel calm. She opened the door and faced her brother, who had a worried expression in his face. "Are you ok? " He asked. "Yes, i hit myself when i got out of the shower. That's all. " She said hurrying to her room. "I prepared tea, want some? " He asked concerned. "No thanks, I'm going to bed. " she said opening the room of her door and closing it.Next morning she was at her locker taking out her book
As Jonah came back home driving he couldn't stop thinking about his interaction with Amy Wilkes that day. Isually girls giggled, smiled or even flirted back when he flirted. But not her. She looked nervous and seemed to pretend she didn't see him. Jonah sighed, it was the first time a girl wouldn't fall for him as fast as he thought. He only had a girlfriend in all his life, Lauren Brown, and since then he didn't date anyone else. She left to Los Angeles, to pursue a modeling career, leaving him heartbroken as he had strong feelings for her.He would go out with other girls ocasionally, but nothing serious as no other girl made him feel the way he did with her.Until now. When he arrived home he was greeted by Natasha, their russian maid who was in the kitchen washing dishes. "Good afternoon, Mr. Jonah." Natasha was a woman in her mid thirties. She was tall, blonde, with brown eyes, very beautiful. More than a maid, Natasha was more like a mother to him when his mother died. She would
Amy couldn't believe Jonah Parker pulled her name out and now both of them were to work together. She felt the look of the other girls on her, and she knew it wasn't because they were happy for her. She was thankful none of them had laser eyes or she would be dead already, as all their looks were icy and somehow murderous. When the bell indicating the period was over she rushed to the bathroom as she just wanted to be alone to order her ideas. When she felt calmer she walked to her next class.Lunch was next and she waited patiently for Dana to arrive and tell her everything that happened. She glanced around to see if she could see her but instead her eyes found Jonah, whose eyes also saw her and approached her."Damn. " Amy whispered to herself."So, Wilkes. You and I will be partners in English class." He said leaning a hand on the desk."Yes, we are. " Amy said with a shy smile."We should exchange phone numbers since we will have to talk constantly. What's your number?" He said taki
Jonah stared at his phone expecting to see an answer from Amy, but to his disappointment it never came. He sighed, wondering what he was doing wrong since none of his moves seemed to work with her. Would she have read it already? If she would read it, he would have received a quick answer. He said to himself she was probably asleep, even though as he checked the time it was only nine o'clock. He waited thirty minutes to check if she answered but nothing. He decided he would speak to her tomorrow; it was better that way. He undressed only having his boxer on and went to sleep. Next morning Amy and Sean were having breakfast before leaving. Sean always insisted Amy had to had breakfast before going to school, he took all that stuff about being breakfast the most important meal. He prepared French toasts."Are you ready to go?" Sean said finishing his last French toast and seeing Amy was almost done. "Yeah. I need to ask you something. I have an English assignment with one of my classm
Jonah felt sorry for exploding to Amy the way he did. Last night his dad had a business dinner, and he wasn't really eager to go, but since his father insisted, he went with him to an elegant restaurant. The other men started bragging about their kids, how all of them were Harvard students being lawyers, doctors, engineers etc. However, the conversation later turned to Jonah in an unexpected way."What about you, Jonah?" A guy called Robert asked."I'm the soccer captain in my school. " He answered with a smile."And what about your grades?" another dude whose name was Bryan or Ryan asked. Jonah couldn't remember his name and he didn't really cared."I'm passing my classes. " Jonah said drinking from his water." You are not interested in a scholarship? " Steven asked."I plan on having an athletic scholarship. ""You could do such better with an academic one, you know how jocks are quite successful for a time but when they age their career is over. " Robert said.If it would have bee
As Sean drove her to school that morning Amy tried to memorize the geometry formulas she had not learned the previous night. She would repeat the formulas to herself in a low voice thinking Sean was not listening to her, however she discovered it was not that way from what he said next. "Can you chill? You're stressing me, and I'm not even the one taking that exam." He said as he stopped on a red light."I didn't learn these formulas, i' m nervous. ""Amy, you are a good student. I know you will ace that exam. There's no need to panic."She knew he was right. Her grades wouldn't be lower than a C, but she still tried to raise them, always hoping to do her besy. it frustrated her that her weaknesses were all numerical classes, as she preferred theoretical classes like Literature and History. She decided to follow his advice and calm down. Fifteen minutes later they arrived to Mackenzie North High School, and Amy unbuckled her seat belt. Sean extended his hand containing a twenty-doll
Sean decided to have Chinese food for dinner, so he drove to the restaurant they liked the most. They asked for dumplings, sour and sweet chicken, and wonton. They ate dinner and at the same time they discussed their day, it was something they always did when they lived with their parents, and somehow, they kept that tradition even though it was only the two of them now. It made them feel closer to each other." So, my students got mad at me for having them write an essay since they said there's a huge party this weekend. I told them they have to have their priorities well defined. Can you believe it?Sean was an English teacher at Western Miami University. He enjoyed his job a lot, however he would mention how troublesome his students were. Amy had a great admiration for her brother since he was hardworking and determined: Sean had fifteen years old, and she was ten when their parents died on a plane crash. They were having an important business on Boston and their presence was requi
The soccer practice ended, and the boys went to the lockers to shower and change themselves. Jonah was checking that nothing from his stuff was missing from his bag, he was very careful with his things. He checked his cellphone; his uniform and his hygiene things were all inside. He felt relieved, he trusted his friends but couldn't say the same about his other teammates. "What did Amy Wilkes want?" Danny asked putting on some deodorant. "Just wanted to thank me. For defending her today." Jonah answered drinking water. " Yeah, everyone heard what you did for her today. Are you two a thing now?" Brad Coleman mockingly asked. Brad Coleman was the previous soccer captain before Jonah came to school. Jonah was told by Danny how Brad was so arrogant and cocky, as he would act as he was the only player on the team, and would hardly even pass the ball during games. However, everything changed when Jonah entered the team, his teammates obviously preferred him since he did play with his t
