Xena’s POV

"Tonight is about fulfilling the blood pact," Alpha Dominic stated, his eyes avoiding mine completely.

His voice held no warmth. It was flat. Empty. Like he was reading the contract out loud to me.

I swallowed.

"You mean like right now?" I asked.

He nodded as he took off his suit jacket. "Undress."

The command was blunt. He had already begun unbuttoning his shirt, his movements efficient and detached. My eyes took in his solid chest and muscular arms, but I was too anxious to feel anything.

This was it. It was finally happening.

My hands trembled as I reached for the zipper at the back of my dress. I fumbled with it once, twice, before finally pulling it down. The fabric slid off my shoulders, pooling at my feet. I stood there in nothing but my underwear, my arms crossed over my chest.

He didn't look at me. His gaze stayed fixed somewhere above my head, distant and cold.

"On the bed."

I climbed onto the mattress, my body stiff and uncooperative. He followed, his presence heavy and suffocating. The bed dipped under his weight as he positioned himself above me.

"This is just the agreement," he stated. "Nothing more."

I nodded, not trusting my voice.

He reached for my thighs, his large hands gripping my skin firmly, spreading my legs apart. His thumbs pressed into the soft flesh of my inner thighs.

I squeezed my eyes shut, gripping the sheets. My body was rigid beneath him.

I felt the blunt pressure of him against my entrance and then my body betrayed me.

A shudder ran through me. My hips jerked back involuntarily, and a small sound escaped my throat. I couldn't help it. I was terrified.

He froze above me.

"What is this?" His voice was sharp. Accusatory.

I opened my eyes. He was staring down at me, his expression dark and unreadable.

"I'm sorry," I whispered. "I just—"

"You're acting like I'm forcing you." His jaw tightened. "You signed the contract. You agreed to this."

"I know—"

"Then stop looking at me like I'm the monster here."

I flinched at his words. I opened my mouth to explain, but nothing came out.

He pulled back, his eyes blazing with cold fury. "You think I want this? You think this is some kind of pleasure for me?"

"Alpha Dominic, I didn't—"

"You wanted the money," he cut in. "You wanted the payment. You signed the papers. Don't stand there now and pretend you're some victim being dragged to the altar."

His words hit me like a slap.

"You took the payment," he continued, his voice dropping to something colder. "You agreed to this arrangement. This is what you signed up for."

I felt tears sting my eyes, but I refused to let them fall.

"You're right," I said, my voice steady despite everything. "I signed the contract. So let's get this over with."

He stared at me for a long moment. Something flickered in his eyes—surprise, maybe. Or irritation.

Then he moved back into position.

I inched closer to Alpha Dominic, grabbing his neck. I could feel his body heat against mine. I tried to steady my breath, but I couldn't.

"Shit!" I screamed and rolled off the bed.

"I can't do this," I said. "I just can't. I don't know what's wrong with me—"

Alpha Dominic ran his hand through his hair and looked at me. He was already getting frustrated. This was getting much more difficult than I'd thought.

I felt absolutely nothing towards Alpha Dominic, yet here I was, standing naked in front of him.

"You've signed the agreement, Xena," Alpha  Dominic stated. "There's no backing down now."

"I know. I just—I don't think I'm ready yet."

He let out a deep sigh.

"I'll pay you three times what you're receiving," he stated, searching my eyes for a reaction.

So that's what I was now—a woman who could be bought.

"Three times?"

"Yes."

This meant I could clear my mother's hospital bills faster.

I bit the corner of my lip and said, "And you'll keep to your promise?"

"I'm a man of my word," Alpha Dominic replied.

"Okay, I think I'm ready," I said, and Alpha Dominic moved closer to me.

My back pinned against the wall, he placed his hand around my waist.

Everything about this man was repulsive.

I couldn't touch him even if I wanted to. I was only doing this because I had no other choice. Instead, I just stood there, stiff and unresponsive.

He lowered his face toward mine. I closed my eyes, bracing for contact.

But his lips never touched mine. He stopped just short, his breath warm against my skin, then pulled back. His jaw was tight. His nostrils flared as he brushed his nose against my neck, inhaling deeply.

"Alpha Dominic? Is everything okay?" I asked.

Silence.

His eyes locked with mine.

His eye color changed for a split second before returning back to normal. It was like he had just come out of a trance.

His jaw clenched.

I watched his throat bob as he swallowed and said, "Yes, everything is fine. Let's continue."

"Okay," I whispered, and his hands were back on my waist.

I wondered if he felt the same way I did. Like this shouldn't be happening at all.

I swallowed hard, my body getting stiffer with every touch.

And then he stopped.

This time, he didn't just pull away. He grabbed my neck tightly, his eyes never leaving mine.

"Wh...what are you doing to me?" I tried to scream, but his grip around my throat tightened even more.

I stepped on his foot, but he didn't budge.

"Tell me," he said.

I looked at him confused, struggling to gasp for air.

"Tell you what?" I tried to say.

My hands pushed against his chest.

This man was a psychopath.

"Tell you what?!" I screamed, but he didn't release me.

His eyes had gone even darker, the tips of his fingers changing into claws.

I felt the sharp edges around my neck, digging deeper into my flesh.

He finally let go of me, tossing me to the ground.

I choked on air and tried to steady my breathing as I looked up at him.

"Are you crazy?" I screamed, but he didn't move.

"I'll only ask this once, Xena," he stated. "And if you dare lie to me, I'll cut your throat and feed it to the wolves."

My fingers started to tremble as I slowly got up and faced him.

"What is it that you want to know?" I asked.

He hesitated at first, his eyes furiously searching mine.

It felt like he was looking for something.

"What's your relationship with Freya?"

Shit.

He knew.

Dominic's POVThe café had become my refuge over the past few weeks. A place where I could sit in the corner, stare at nothing, and pretend the weight of everything wasn't crushing me. The coffee was always cold by the time I remembered to drink it. Today was no different.I was nursing a cup I had barely touched when my Beta slid into the seat across from me. His expression was strained, the kind of look that meant he was about to ask for something unreasonable."I need a favor," he said without preamble.I didn't look up. "I'm not in the mood.""It's not for me. It's for Mira."That got my attention. I finally looked at him. "Mira?""The little girl from the orphanage. The one whose parents died in the rogue attack a few months ago. It's her birthday tomorrow."I remembered her. Small, quiet, with eyes that had seen too much too young. She had been sitting alone by the window during the Luna visit, and Xena had coaxed her out of her shell."She has one wish," my Beta continued. "She

Xena’s POVThe herb garden had become my sanctuary.Over the next few days, I found myself drawn to its quiet corners, my hands buried in soil, my mind focused on the simple act of tending to the plants. There was something grounding about it—the earthy smell, the gentle rustle of leaves, the way the sun filtered through the canopy above. Here, I wasn't a surrogate. I wasn't a placeholder. I was just a woman who knew how to heal.Elara had been the first to notice. My maid had come to me complaining about her knee again, the pain keeping her up at night. I had prepared a poultice for her, showing her how to apply it. Within days, she was walking without a limp. Then word spread. A few pack members approached me with minor ailments, and I helped them too. It wasn't much, but it gave me purpose. It made me feel like more than just a vessel. The afternoon sun was warm on my back as I worked, my fingers pressing fresh herbs into a mortar. I was preparing a salve for Fae, the little girl f

Dominic's POVI left Freya's room with my mind still churning, the image of her pale face burned into my memory. The physician's words echoed in my head on repeat. Someone had been preventing her from taking her pills. Someone had wanted her sick. The implications were staggering, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was missing something crucial. Something right under my nose.I pushed the thought aside as I walked through the hallways, but it kept clawing its way back. I needed to clear my head. I needed to think. But every corner of this mansion seemed to carry reminders of everything I was trying to escape. Instead, my feet carried me in a direction I hadn't intended.Xena's room.I stopped outside her door, my hand hovering over the handle. I didn't know why I was here. I should be with Freya and trying to figure out who was responsible for hurting her.Instead, I was standing here, about to face the woman I had left behind without a word. The guilt was already coiling in my

Xena's POVThe orphanage was buzzing with energy. Children's laughter echoed through the halls, their tiny feet pattering against the wooden floors as they raced to see who had come to visit. Their faces lit up with pure, unguarded excitement the moment they saw us, and for a brief moment, I forgot about the weight pressing down on my chest.A little boy, no older than five or six, broke away from the crowd and ran straight toward me. Before I could react, his small arms wrapped around my legs in a tight hug. I felt my heart clench at the gesture—so trusting, so innocent.I knelt down to his level, a warm smile spreading across my face. "What's your name, little one?"He simply stared at me, his smile still plastered across his face, but he didn't speak."That's Matthew," an old woman said as she approached me. "He doesn't speak.""Oh," I said, letting out a soft, nervous laugh. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean—""It's alright," she said, her voice kind. "It's your first day here, and it tak

Dominic's POVThe car ride was suffocating. Xena sat beside me, her gaze fixed on the window, her reflection a ghost in the glass. I could feel her presence like a weight pressing against my chest, heavy and inescapable. The silence between us was thick, filled with everything left unsaid. My mind wouldn't stop replaying the moment at the presentation. The whispers from the crowd. "They look so perfect together." "She would make a wonderful Luna." "Maybe she's the one." The words had burrowed under my skin like splinters, festering with every passing second. I had heard them, and something inside me had shifted. Not because I wanted Xena—I couldn't want her. I had Freya. I loved Freya. But the thought of members seeing us together, of them thinking she could replace my mate, made my stomach turn. Not with disgust. With something far more dangerous.Fear.I clenched my jaw so hard it ached. Xena had looked at me with confusion when I pulled away, hurt flickering in her eyes. I had pret

Xena's POVI stood in front of the mirror, barely recognizing the woman staring back at me.The maids had descended on me before dawn, a whirlwind of hands, fabric and commands. They had bathed me in water scented with roses, styled my hair into an elaborate arrangement of curls and pins, and wrapped me in a dress of soft ivory silk that clung to my curves and fell just above my knees. The fabric was so delicate it felt like water against my skin. A small circlet of silver rested on my brow, catching the morning light and glinting like a crown.I looked like a Luna but I felt like a fraud."You look beautiful, my lady," Elara said, adjusting the circlet. "The pack won't know what hit them."I tried to smile, but it didn't reach my eyes. "Thank you, Elara."She studied me for a moment, her expression softening. "You'll do wonderfully, my lady. Just breathe."I nodded, but my stomach was churning. My palms were slick with sweat, and I could feel my pulse racing with every passing second
