Chapter 6

Author: Perfect Timing
Everyone around was stunned. They had never seen someone hit and kill a person and act so self-righteous.

The same people who had just praised me for being kind now stared at me with disgust. "This has to be sociopathic behaviour. Her husband killed someone, and she doesn't feel guilt," one muttered.

"Maybe she's bitter at Mr. Quinn because her husband went to jail."

"Poor people are schemers, rich people have a conscience. Why bother talking to her? Just shoot her!"

Leon sighed and spoke with solemn authority. "If you hate me for sending your husband to prison, use me as your target. Why harm all these children? If you've got the guts, release them and I'll be your hostage!"

William panicked and stepped forward. "Mr. Quinn, your safety comes first!"

Anger nearly consumed me. How dare he say that?

The people around us still looked at Leon with admiration. Had he calculated that I wouldn't dare act, knowing the police had countless ways to control me if I opened the door, and e

"Were you planning to kill him intentionally?" William asked.I reacted quickly. "Of course not. He was already old. Without a suitable donor, he wouldn't have lasted long anyway. Why would I bother?""He died from the second explosion. I need to ask. Why did you set off the second blast?" William asked.I hesitated, then explained, "I didn't plan a second one. Maybe my homemade bomb wasn't stable enough…"He pressed further. "And about Leon, our hospital checks confirm his heart came from your mom. What really happened back then?"I lowered my eyes, memories flooding back to years ago. I had just finished the college entrance exam when my mom died in a car accident. She had previously signed an organ donation agreement, and her heart was transplanted to a respected professor. Wanting to stay close to her memory, I secretly researched the recipient, applied to his university, and became his graduate student. At first, Leon treated me well, almost like his own protege. That chan

At that moment, I finally understood his plan. From the very beginning, his target had never been my daughter. It had been me. If I were sentenced to death, he had a thousand ways to get my heart. I leveled the gun at him. "Since I've already killed someone, I'm not afraid to kill one more."Leon gave a sinister smile. "You wouldn't dare. If you kill me, your daughter dies, too!""She's in your hands, isn't she? Where is she?" My voice was sharp, my patience wearing thin. I wanted to tear him apart right there. "You didn't know where she was? So, it was all just a bluff? Relax, go turn yourself in. I'll release your daughter immediately," Leon said.I laughed at his smugness. "My daughter's here in this preschool, right?""Spot on. But only I know exactly where," Leon said."She's on the school bus," I said.Leon's smile froze, struck awkwardly on his face. I glanced at the clock. It was exactly eight o'clock in the evening. Outside, chaos erupted again. "They found her! They

I frowned and looked over. A little girl was clutching her mouth and coughing violently, her cheeks flushed bright red as she struggled to catch her breath."She was probably startled by the explosion. She has asthma, too…"I took a deep breath. "Officer Turner, how about a deal? You tell me what was found in the restroom next door, and I'll let one child go."The parents immediately erupted, urging William to speak. One piece of information couldn't compare to the life of a child. William had no choice but to tell the truth. They had found a hidden passage behind the toilet tank, and inside, they discovered my daughter's watch.I pushed the asthmatic girl out first. Her mother immediately rushed forward, scooping her up, tears streaming as she thanked me.The mood shifted instantly. People began murmuring."The kidnapper actually has a conscience. She really wouldn't kill before time's up!" "Yeah, I think she must have her reasons. If my kid went missing, I wouldn't even wan

"You're talking nonsense! My daughter could never be that skinny! And she has a red mole on her wrist. This isn't my daughter!"I gritted my teeth, my voice sharp and furious. "There are 25 minutes left before the second child dies. Can't you people move any faster?"William tried to say something to calm me down, but the principal suddenly rushed forward and cut him off. "Lilian, you're nothing but a curse. "Your daughter is gone, and now you want to drag other children down with her? Let me tell you, she deserved to die!"William flinched in shock, instinctively reaching out to stop her.The principal's voice rose with rage. "Why don't you just kill me? What good is it killing two kids? If you've got the guts, kill us all!"I turned the volume of the cartoon blaring from the TV to its maximum, then asked coldly, "How do you know my daughter is dead?"The principal froze, stammering, "She's been missing so long. Who knows if she's even still alive.""If my daughter is dead, n

I leaned against the wall and sneered, "You tore apart a junkyard looking for a rich man's lost watch, but when it came to a living child who had been missing for seven days, there were no leads?"William fell silent at my accusation. "Ms. Brown, maybe your daughter is still nearby," he said. For a moment, I couldn't process the suggestion. My daughter had last been seen here. I had searched every cupboard, the bathrooms, and every corner, but there was no sign of her."The cameras cover everything except the restrooms. We suspect she was taken through the restrooms. Ms. Brown, give yourself up. The police will get to the truth," William said. The restroom. I replayed the layout in my head. The kindergarten's bathroom wasn't split by gender. It had only two tiny stalls and a small exhaust fan.I looked toward the restrooms and couldn't help but feel that something about the fan was nagging at me. However, I couldn't put my finger on what was strange.I licked my dry lips. "Ten mi
