I decide to leave for town instead of thinking about the past. I put on my plain white t-shirt and blue denim pants. I reach for my socks and put on my favorite black, high-cut leather shoes. I grab my black cardigan and hang it in my left arm. I check the doors and windows to make sure they are all locked before I leave.
I'm whistling and at the same time tossing the car keys in the air using my right hand while heading my way towards my wooden garage. I lift the garage door and get to the driver's seat of my red Ferrari. Well, technically without the real heir, I as the adopted child inherited the Brown's wealth. Yes, it's not only that they let me borrow their daughter's identity but they adopted me legally. They had personal reasons why they didn't let people know that they've lost Adele. It's only them, their families, and the private detective who knows about it. It wasn't explained to me and I didn't even try to find out the real reason for using my telepathy. I respect them so much. People think that I am Adele, the biological daughter of the Brown couple. But the truth is, my birth certificate clearly states that I am Adele Martina Brown. Adopted child.
Martin and Margarette are both from affluent families in the big city of West Land. When they died, they left their riches to me and of course, to the real Adele. Martin was the President of a long-time running family business of the Browns', the Brown Architectural Design Company. It is one of the leading Architectural companies in the country. With his death, the high position in the company was initially given to me. But, truth is truth. The Browns' knew my real status in the family. Especially, Uncle Marco Brown. To stay away from trouble, I let him take the position temporarily until I find the real successor. I would always visit the company once a month. I couldn't let my greedy Uncle Marco play tricks with the real Adele. I see to it that he won't stand a chance to fool me, rather.
I start the engine and drive the car out of the garage. I get out of the car to open the wooden fence. This place is better than living in the complicated city of West Land. Moments later, I'm already driving my car in the silent road until I reach a small restaurant in New Land. I straighten my back to ease the stiffness of my muscles before getting out of the car. It's good that only a few people are here. There's a young couple at the table in the corner, an old woman and her grandchild in the middle, and a group of high school students near the entrance. I roam my eyes to find a comfortable place to sit. The high school students are a little noisy so I won't sit next to them. I won't sit in the middle tables, either. Finally, I settle at the table next to the young couple. It is the best location to sit if you are hiding from someone. I grin at this thought.
"What's your order, Ma'am?" The waitress approach and asks me politely.
"I want rice and pasta salad, grilled chicken, and orange juice."
"Rice and pasta salad, grilled chicken, and orange juice. Did I get it right ma'am?" She repeats it while jotting it down.
"Yeah."
"Alright ma'am, I get your order and have your meal be prepared immediately." She smiles respectfully before heading to the kitchen.
My food arrives just a few minutes of waiting. The smell of the pasta reaches my nostrils and I can't wait to taste it. My hands excitedly pick the fork and I start eating. The soft texture of the pasta feels good against my tongue. My taste buds are enjoying it. I am in the middle of my hearty meal when my sense of smell recognizes a familiar scent.
"It's Catherine," I tell myself.
I fix my eyes on the floor to focus and listen to the sounds around me. I can't hear her voice but her heartbeat is so fast and loud. She is scared and it's like she is running.
"She's in trouble again?" I mumble with my furrowed brows.
I can also hear men running after her. The running sounds are getting nearer. Why does this woman always run in my direction? I don't think I need to meddle with her life anymore. It's enough that I helped her in the woods before. Just when I am about to close my sharp auditory sense that a loud gunshot explodes into the air.
"Shit!"
I mutter a curse in my mind, following this is a sudden rattling noise of the fork when I let it go off my hand. The questioning eyes of the people in the restaurant meet my sight as soon as I raise my head. I signal the waitress to hand me my bill. She immediately gives it to me. Confusion is written all over her face seeing that my food is not yet done.
"Didn't you like the food ma'am?" She cautiously asks.
"No. The food is very delicious. I just remember something." I smile at her and hand her the cash. I hurriedly stand and take big strides towards the door.
"Ma'am this is too much, you have to wait for your change!" She exclaims.
"Keep it," I tell her.
"..."
I sense her scratching her head in disbelief. It is quite a big amount than a regular tip. How I itch to teleport to get fast to where Catherine is, but there are security cameras in all corners of the establishments in this area. I can't risk my secret just to help this woman. It's a good thing that my sight works extraordinarily. I can see through the walls like a transparent crystal whenever I want. I quickly run to the corner where the security cameras wouldn't catch me. Seconds later I disperse from where I stand.
Her eyes widen in shock when I appeared in front of her out of the blue.
"Ms. Brown!" She exclaims shockingly.
"Be quiet."
I grab her by the waist and pull her to the corner while covering her mouth with my palm. My back is leaning straight against the wall while her head is on my chest. I can feel her cold palms holding my wrist. She is shaking in fear.
The men fail to notice us and run forward in one direction.
"Hurry up, we have to find her!" The leader shouts angrily.
"Who are they?" I ask her loosening my palm on her mouth.
Catherine moves away and faces me. She is pale and her lips are trembling. She seems like crying any minute.
"Zubah's men. They followed me. Thank God I've noticed them before I head my way to my new home or else I would be dead."
"It looks like they won't leave you alone."
My comment makes her even paler. Her eyes turn red and tears well up her eyelids. She quickly wipes it with her hands before it flows down to her face.
"I know that." She says in a cracking voice.
"Where's your place? I'll drive you home." I offer her.
She tells me where she stays. I hold her by the arms and teleport straight into my car.
"Wow! You can teleport?"
She can't believe that in just a blink of an eye we are already sitting inside my car.
"Mmm."
I answer her and insert the key to the keyhole and start the engine.
"How did you do that?"
She is eager to know how did I do it. I did not say anything. I only talk to Martin and Margarette so much about who I am and whatever is happening with me. Now that they are gone, no one is left to listen to me every time I discover something new to me. I was only fourteen when I discovered my ability to teleport. When I was fifteen, I learned that I can read minds and I can interact using mind-link with the people close to me. All those times, my foster parents were there to comfort me when things can't be controlled.
"I can't believe that humans have this kind of ability," Catherine says with her wide eyes not parting from me.
"I'm not human."
"..."
From the corner of my eyes, I see that her jaw drop and mouth widely open from what she heard.
I slowly turn the wheels backward from the parking spot and speed up after making sure that the road is clear."You're not human?" Catherine asks weighing my words."Yes.""...""That's true and I am more dangerous than Zubah so don't you dare unveil my secret to anyone or you'll be as good as dead." I twitch my lips gracefully."Of course!"She lifts her hands in the air and swears like a child. I chuckle and glance at her. Why do I have a light feeling for this woman? I glance at her once more and our eyes met. Her eyes. Why are those pair of amber eyes familiar to me? My eyes are hook into hers and the surrounding seems black and white. I only see those pair of amber eyes."Watch out!"She yells and quickly grabs the steering wheel to the side of the road. I managed to hit the brake before my car possibly hit the tree on the side of the road. Our bodies lean violently forward. Thankfully we have our seatbel
I feel a sudden thirst as though my throat is dry."Can I have some water?""Oh, yes of course! I'm sorry I almost forgot to give you drinks."Isabel hurriedly gets a pitcher from the fridge. I listen to the melodious flow of water as she pours it into the glass. She goes back to where I am standing and hands it to me. She is watching closely as the water goes down through my throat. She seems to be enjoying the view. What's with this woman? Is she a lesbian? She seems to have a crush on me. Well, I knew perfectly that I'm attractive but it never cross my mind that I can also capture a woman's interest."Beware of how you stare, you might fall in love with me."I see her blush and her earlobes turn red as tomatoes. That's cute. I smirk and give the glass back to her."Thank you.""You're welcome and excuse me, I was not looking at you for any reason that you're thinking. It's the tattoo just below your ea
It's good to see the incredible building of Brown's Architectural Design. This only proves that the company is going successful as it used to be. The fruit of my father Martin's sacrifices is visible in the face of the company. I park my car and quickly get out of it. I go straight to the elevator exclusively for VIPs and click the button to the 30th floor. That's going to the President's office, or I may say Uncle Marco's office. Click. The elevator opens and my swift stride follows. "Good afternoon Cecelia." I greet her in a monotonous tone. She's the secretary to the President. Cecelia startles after hearing my greeting. She slightly jerks from her seat. "Jesus Christ Adele! You startled me." "Is Uncle Marco inside?" What a foolish question. Of course, he is. Wherever is the boss, the secretary follows, right? "Yes, he is. I'll tell him that you are here." "No need. I'll tell him myself.
Hours have passed and I stayed in the kitchen of the mansion helping the servants prepare meals. Before dark, we are already done in the kitchen. Rosemary is giving instructions to the other servants in the living room. I decided to stroll around the mansion while waiting for the arrival of my grandparents. I was walking around the garden when I heard the horn of the car. I bet it's already them. I excitedly walk my feet towards the front yard. Silhouettes of the familiar figure were standing on the porch of the mansion. Rosemary and the other servants greeted them. They started to take their baggage inside. The old man smiled widely when he took a glimpse of me going their way. "Akira!" They know my real name. "Grandpa! Grandma!" I hugged and kissed them on their cheeks. "I'm so happy to see you back!" "So are we, my dear." My grandma said merrily. "Look at you, you're all grown up!" Grandpa said while looking
After going to Hunter, I learned that the man I saw in the forest is probably a powerful Ehtrehtian. The reason why I wasn't able to read the stranger's mind is, he must be blocking me. Hunter explained that he could be an ally or an enemy. Either way, I don't like the idea that these creatures of my kind are getting in my way. I've left Ehtrehto Edis and I don't want to do anything about it including crossing paths with anyone from there, except Hunter. I'm loving my life of being free as a wind.I felt the need to take a break. My wristwatch says it's already five in the afternoon. I didn't know that I've talked to Hunter that long. I don't have my car with me so I just walked without minding which particular place to go. I'm now strolling around New Land, hopping and window shopping from one establishment to another. When I turned my eyes around, I've noticed that it was already dark. It's time to get home."Are you going
I'm not used to waking up like this. My head throbs in pain. Now I know how a hangover feels like. Only a hearty breakfast will ease this feeling. Hey, wait! I panicked when I realized what had happened last night. The last thing I remember is that I snatched a gun and fell to the ground, and now I don't know where I am. What seems to be obvious now is that my arms are tied and I'm blindfolded. I heard the door screeching, indicating that someone is getting in. "Where am I?" Whoever entered this room didn't bother answering me so I repeated my question. "You won't get an answer. You better shut your mouth up." The man answered with hostility. I even ask him where Catherine and Isabel are but this man is a real jerk. He zipped his mouth and wouldn't answer me however hard I try to plead with him. A tingly feeling is on my wrist as I try to move my arms. The tight grip of the string on my arms hurts. I tried to move my feet only to find out that the
He stayed under that big tree for hours. I'm getting so bored of sitting in this branch of the tree while watching over him. He fell asleep because of so much tiredness. The sun has already risen above the mountains spreading out its brilliant rays. I looked at my wrist and, uh oh, where are my twenty-four carats golden watch? That was my gift for me on my twentieth birthday. I gaze at the man below. Robber! I can't forgive you! I was about to jump and strangle him when I noticed a venomous snake crawling and approaching him. It hisses and is ready to bite the sleeping man."Hey, don't do that, you silly creature. Biting a sleeping man is unjust."I used my telekinesis to make the snake float in the air. I playfully tossed it in the air. I watched it squirms."You're flying now. You should thank me for allowing you to feel how's to be a bird." I chuckled playfully.
"Only Hunter can explain it to me." My mind told myself.I must focus and connect with him through the mental links. But before I could close my eyes, the man moved. He yawned and stretched his arms. He suddenly rose from sitting and glanced from the direction where he came from, then immediately run. He must have realized what happened earlier. He brushed the twigs of the bushes that obstructed his way. His moves are faster now, maybe because his strength was renewed after that long nap. Where is he going? Doesn't he even have a car in the warehouse where they imprisoned me? It seems that the path he's leading is unlikely to be a road. I kind of understand him. He might have lost his mind when he saw me in my sharp claws and narrow reddish eyes. I followed him closely, still hopping from branches to branches. I think we're getting near the highway because I can already hear the sounds of passing vehicles. He climbed into the highway rails
