Tamara

I didn't know exactly what time I finally passed out. I just remembered lying on the large bed, staring at the dark stone ceiling until my exhausted body gave out.

It felt like my eyes had only been closed for a few minutes when a hand shook my shoulder hard.

I groaned and cracked my eyes open. The room was completely dark. Earth stood over my bed, already dressed in thin training clothes.

"Get up," Earth said, her voice wide awake.

I sat up slowly and rubbed my face. My back still ached from being thrown into the wall yesterday.

"What time is it?" I mumbled.

"Time to go," she replied, pulling the thick blanket off my legs. "Get dressed. I am showing you around."

I wanted to complain. I wanted to tell her I was tired and hurting, but Earth gave absolutely no room for me to talk. She walked to the door and waited. I forced myself out of bed, dug through my pink suitcase, and quickly put on a simple pair of black leggings and a tight long-sleeve shirt.

When we stepped outside the pack house, the cold morning air hit my face. It was freezing, and the sky was still pitch black. But the training grounds were completely full.

Hundreds of wolves were already outside. The loud sounds of heavy breathing, fists hitting punching bags, and bodies slamming into the dirt filled the air.

"They are already awake?" I asked in shock.

Earth nodded as we walked past a group of men lifting massive heavy logs. "The warriors in this pack survive on four hours of sleep every single day, sometimes even less. We wake up at four in the morning and train non-stop until nine. After that, people go about their daily duties, which usually involves even more physical work or combat training."

I stared at her. "Four hours?"

"Yes," Earth said simply.

I looked around at the people training. The sheer strength of these wolves was terrifying. I saw two women wrestling in the dirt, throwing each other around easily.

Then I looked down at my own body. I compared my small hands and thin arms to the massive, heavily built wolves around me.

Even the women here were way bigger than most men in my former pack. They had broad shoulders, thick muscles, and tall frames. I looked completely out of place. How was I supposed to survive in a pack where everyone was built for war?

Earth showed me the weapon racks filled with iron axes, and blades. She showed me the different fighting rings drawn in the dirt.

Everything here was hard and brutal.

"Alright," Earth said, stopping near an empty space on the edge of the field. "Let's see what you can do. We are going to spar a little."

My eyes widened. "Right now?"

"Yes, right now. I need to know your basic skills if I am going to help you survive."

I took a deep breath and nodded. I raised my hands, getting into a simple defensive stance that my brothers had taught me back home.

But before Earth could make a move, my attention shifted.

A familiar scent hit my nose. Pine, and spicy musk. My heart instantly skipped a beat and my body unconsciously began to look for him.

I turned my head and looked across the training grounds. Alpha North was there.

He was standing inside one of the main fighting rings, sparring with three large warriors at the same time. He was completely shirtless. Sweat shined on his skin in the dim morning light. His muscles flexed with every fast, powerful movement.

He blocked a punch, grabbed a warrior by the waist, and threw him to the dirt without breaking a sweat.

I couldn't look away. I was practically drooling. My wolf went entirely crazy, pulling hard at my chest. The mating bond was so strong. I was incredibly drawn to him, and every instinct inside me just wanted to run over and touch him. But there was nothing I could do. He had made it very clear that he didn't want me.

I tried to force myself to look back at Earth, but then I saw movement near the edge of North's ring.

It was Serena.

She was walking directly toward my mate. She carried a water bottle and a towel, smiling that same mocking, confident smile she had given me yesterday. She was getting ready to step into his space again but I wasn't about to let her win again. I picked instinct over reason. I completely ignored Earth calling my name. I walked away from our empty spot and marched straight into the middle of the busy training area. My eyes were locked only on Alpha North.

Serena was just about to hand him the towel when I stepped right into the ring.

North stopped moving. He looked at me, his chest rising and falling heavily from his workout.

The warriors around him backed away slightly. Serena's smile disappeared, and her eyes narrowed in annoyance.

I didn't care about her. I looked boldly up into my mate's icy, stormy eyes.

"Spar with me," I demanded.

The entire training ground went totally silent. Every single person stopped what they were doing to stare at me.

I stood my ground, my heart pounding loudly in my ears. I knew there was a very high possibility he would say no. I knew he could easily embarrass me in front of his entire pack again. But I stared at the terrifying Alpha and I prayed to the Moon Goddess that he would say yes.

Tamara Without waiting another second, I reached out, grabbed North's hands, and forcefully dragged him away from the wreckage of the kitchen, pulling him out past Lucia and Kain and all the way outside away from prying eyes.I whipped around to face him with fury burning in my chest as I demanded, "What the hell have you done for this pack since I came back?"He blinked, taken aback, and didn't answer."I asked you a question," I snapped, stepping closer. "What have you actually done that proves you're a good Alpha right now? Are you seriously doing this? After everything we've been through, you still want to tear apart Kain and Lucia's bond just to feed your own anger?""Do you know what her father..." North started, his voice rising defensively."Her father, North! Not her!" I shouted, cutting him off completely. "Why on earth do you want to punish her for something her father did? She finally found a safe home and a true mate who loves her, and you want to rip that away from her.

TamaraWe all stood crowded around the large wooden table inside the war room, where the air felt so thick and suffocating that every breath came harder than the last, while sweat clung to our skin as we silently prepared ourselves for whatever we would receive from North. I stood beside Kain, and although he was naturally a strong, imposing man who rarely looked shaken, I could almost feel the crushing fear gripping his heart as he stood unnaturally still. My eyes drifted toward Serena. She looked completely devastated. Her shoulders had fallen, her face had lost every trace of its usual confidence, and her eyes seemed fixed on something none of us could see.Deep down, I already knew. Alpha Nolan's cold, blank-faced son was her mate. The thought twisted painfully inside my chest because I couldn't imagine a crueler bond than one tied to the enemy's son, and if he was anything like the monster who had raised him, there was almost nothing waiting for her except heartbreak. Then anot

Tamara "We do not have what you're looking for," I said, holding my ground as the tension around us grew heavier with every passing second.Alpha Nolan smiled coldly, before shaking his head."You're lying."His eyes locked onto mine."She is here.""And how would I know that," I asked, narrowing my eyes, "when I don't even know who you're looking for?"His smile widened."I thought you'd say that."He lifted one hand, gesturing for one of his men to step forward. The wolf reached into his jacket and pulled out an old, folded photograph before holding it toward me.I reached for it.Just as my fingers were about to take it, I caught the faintest glimpse of an eerily familiar face–A loud growl echoed through the clearing and every head snapped toward our line.It was North. He stormed forward, shoving past our warriors as though nothing in the world could stop him, his wolf practically roaring beneath his skin.Alpha Nolan threw his head back and laughed."Well… well…well."He looked

TamaraI gently pressed my hands against his chest, easing myself out of his arms before carefully pushing myself back and standing up, while keeping my distance as I looked away and murmured softly, "Don't." North frowned almost immediately, he stood up also and closed the space between us again. "Tamara..." "You hurt me, North," I whispered, my voice shaky beneath the weight of wounds that had never truly healed. "And we're no longer mates. The bond is gone." "To you, maybe," he said, his green eyes burning with unwavering confidence as though nothing in the world could shake what he believed. "To me, we still are." I swallowed but stayed silent. "I never accepted the rejection, Tamara," he continued, his voice quieter yet no less certain as he took another slow step toward me. "And I never will. Please... just give me one more chance." Before I could move away again, his hands settled gently around my waist, holding me carefully enough to let me leave if I wanted to, ye

TamaraI looked at the chair, my heart hammering against my ribs as the entire hall went dead silent. I knew what everyone expected me to do but I also knew it wasn't time. It wasn't right, and it certainly wasn't how I wanted any of this to go. Dropping my eyes to avoid the expectant stares of the entire pack, I looked past the Luna's seat and pulled out the chair right next to Raven properly, sitting down quietly.I glanced up just in time to catch North's face. His expression fell instantly, a look of disappointment flashing across his features, but he didn't say a single word. Slowly, he walked back to his own seat at the head of the table and sat down in silence, and the rest of the pack followed, finishing breakfast beneath an uncomfortable silence that no one seemed willing to break. As soon as the meal ended, I called out to Raven, motioning for him to step aside with me. Eve gave me a quick wave, telling me she would see me later that night, before heading off."How are you h

Tamara "Yeah, he is fine," I quickly said, trying to smooth over the awkward tension before Eve could dwell on it. "He just gets a bit overwhelmed sometimes."Eve smiled, stepping aside and gesturing for us to come in. "Well, come on in. Don't just stand out there."Lucia and I followed her inside, immediately stepping into a warm, comfortable house that felt surprisingly peaceful compared to the tension that had surrounded us at the pack house. We settled into the cozy living area and spent a few minutes talking, catching up on everything that had happened while I had been away and filling Eve in on the things she had missed. For a little while, I actually forgot about everything else. Then Eve's mother walked out from the kitchen carrying a tray of tea.She was a striking woman with a graceful presence, although I immediately noticed the slight limp in her step, subtle enough that I might have missed it if I had not been paying attention. She placed the tray on the table before loo
