Chapter 3

Autor: Call and I'll Come
The day of the ninth body swap finally arrived. It was midnight on the 15th.

The familiar sensation of falling hit me again.

I opened my eyes in a huge apartment downtown, lying on soft silk sheets. The room smelled faintly of expensive perfume.

I sat up and looked down at Ingrid's well-maintained body. Then, I went into the walk-in closet, picked out a black designer suit, and put on the three-million-dollar diamond necklace.

I looked at myself in the mirror. The woman staring back looked cold and intimidating.

From now on, this was my life.

Ingrid was probably waking up in my undernourished body, with the old cuts still on my wrists, in the guest room where sunlight never reached.

At 9:00 am sharp, I arrived at Lawson Corporation.

"Hi, Ms. Lawson."

"Good morning, Ms. Lawson."

Everyone greeted me respectfully as I walked past. I just gave them a slight nod, my face emotionless, and headed straight to my desk.

I called the CFO into my office through the intercom. "Cancel all the supplementary black cards under Don's name and freeze the account covering Lawson Manor's major daily expenses. No one gets to approve a single cent without my signature."

The CFO froze for a moment. He didn't understand why I was suddenly doing this, since I had always doted on Don. Still, he nodded. "Noted, Ms. Lawson."

I leaned back in my chair and quietly looked out of the window.

This was just the beginning.

"Ingrid, you'd learn that without your heiress status to hide behind, you were worth nothing to the Lawson family," I said inwardly.

At 3:00 pm, I was in a meeting about an overseas acquisition when my phone started buzzing.

It was a call from the housekeeper. Her panicked screams came through the phone. "Ms. Lawson, you need to get to Wellspring Hospital right away! Mr. Damon pushed Mr. Don down the stairs! Mr. Don has lost a lot of blood. He's in the ER now!"

My eyes flickered slightly.

It looked like Don couldn't wait any longer.

I hung up and told the executives, "Let's put this on hold. I have some personal business to take care of."

When I arrived outside the emergency room, the hallway was in chaos. Roy and Barbara stood outside, their eyes bloodshot as they paced back and forth.

Ingrid sat on the tiled floor, looking miserable. Her clothes were a mess, a handprint stood out on her face, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.

She scrambled toward me and grabbed my pant leg. "Help me explain! I didn't push him. Don fell down the stairs on his own! He deliberately grabbed me at the top of the stairs, then threw himself down! Mom and Dad won't believe me. You have to explain it to them!"

Ingrid looked up at me, her eyes filled with shock and anger. She had probably never suffered such humiliation in her life.

Roy strode over, yanked her away, and slapped her hard across the face again. It sent her crashing into the wall.

"You bastard!" he cursed as he pointed at her nose. "Don has always treated you so well, and you actually hurt him like this? The surveillance cameras just happened to be broken. You think that means you can talk your way out of this?

"If anything happens to Don, I'll kill you!"

Her ears ringing, Ingrid clutched her swollen cheek and stared at the man who had always treated her kindly. She shook her head desperately and rasped, "I'm not making excuses! He really did fall on his own! I'm…"

Meanwhile, I used her identity to establish my dominance in the business world, and within a month, I rooted out every mole Roy had planted in the company.I personally led the negotiations and got the overseas acquisition deal the company had spent three years preparing for at a great price.Roy tried to use his chairman position to put me in my place during the annual shareholders' meeting and hand several key projects to Don's fiancée, Sarah Lane. But I slammed a stack of documents onto the conference table. They proved that Roy had embezzled company funds and stolen company assets for years. The shareholders looked on in shock as I told Roy coldly, "Mr. Lawson, you're too old. Your mind isn't as clear as it used to be. It's time to retire and let me take over."Roy was so furious that he fell ill and had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance. And I pushed him out of power with my controlling stake and outstanding performance. I became the real head of Lawson Corporation,

I was sitting at my desk on the top floor of Lawson Corporation. The city lights glittered against the night sky outside my windows. I swirled a glass of expensive wine in my hand, coldly listening to Ingrid's pleas in my head.I sipped my wine. "Ingrid, why are you whining?" My voice was ice-cold as it transmitted through the pendant's connection and reached her mind."Didn't you say our parents would accept me if I were just a bit more magnanimous? Didn't you tell me that Don is really kind and that I should be more forgiving toward him? Why are you complaining now that you're the one on the receiving end?"Ingrid shook her head, her words barely making sense. "I'm sorry! I was blind! Damon, we're family! Give me one more chance!""You've already lost your chance." I put down the wine glass. "The pendant only works nine times. The soul link is broken. That connection was just the pendant's final flicker before it died."Ingrid, do you remember how happy you were when you tore

Don grabbed the apple from the table and took a bite, his voice mocking. "Damon, your kidney's working pretty well. My body hasn't rejected it at all. Thank you so much."Ingrid trembled, staring at the man in front of her. "You threw yourself down the stairs! Why did you frame me?"Don scoffed as if he'd just heard the biggest joke in the world. He tossed the apple core into the trash, his eyes full of mockery. "Why? Well, I wanted your kidney."He slowly wiped his hands clean and sneered. "Your sister is so easy to fool. All I had to do was pretend to be selfless and helpless, and she thought I was the reasonable one. Then, she turned around and mistreated you. "Also, if I hadn't thrown myself down those stairs, how would Mom and Dad have forced you to donate your kidney to me so quickly? Honestly, I really have to thank that dumb bitch."Ingrid was stunned. She glared at Don, her ears ringing and her mind completely blank. She'd always believed Don was an innocent, kindhearte

Meanwhile, Ingrid woke up in agony in a regular hospital room as the anesthesia wore off. A sharp, tearing pain shot through her lower back, as if someone were twisting a dull knife deep into her flesh. Her whole body convulsed, and cold sweat instantly soaked her hospital gown."Water… I need water…" she croaked out the words and tried to reach for the call button beside her bed.But the room was empty—no flowers, no fruit, and not even a caregiver to bring her a glass of water. After a long while, a nurse walked in, pushing a cart full of medical supplies.Ingrid grabbed the nurse's uniform, her voice hoarse. "Where are my parents? Ask them to come see me…"The nurse pulled her clothes free, her eyes full of undisguised contempt. "They are in the VIP room next door with your brother."As she roughly changed Ingrid's dressing, the nurse continued in a cold voice, "Mrs. Lawson said you're malicious and cruel. As long as you're still alive, you're not to bother them. She wants you

The glaring surgical lights filled Ingrid's vision, and the clinking of instruments rang in her ears. She was still strapped to the operating table. There was no sensation of falling.Ingrid hadn't returned to her own body. She was still inside my body."N-No way! This is impossible!" Her mind went blank for a moment, and then terror overwhelmed her.She thrashed and twisted on the operating table, the restraints digging into her wrists and ankles and leaving bloody marks."Let me go! Let go!" she screamed hoarsely, her voice rising to a desperate pitch. "I'm not Damon! I'm Ingrid, your daughter! You can't take my kidney!"Roy, who had been supervising from the operating room doorway, instantly became livid. He strode into the room and looked down at Ingrid, his eyes filled with disgust. He snapped, "You're insane! Are you making up this ridiculous story just to get out of donating a kidney to Don? You think I'll let you off just because you pretend to be crazy? Listen up, Damon.

Ingrid nearly confessed that she was Ingrid, stuck in my body, but she stopped herself just in time. She knew if she said that, everyone would probably think she'd gone crazy. She looked at Barbara. "Mom, please believe me. I really didn't push him…""Don't call me that! I won't recognize a vicious person like you as my son!" Barbara stepped backward, disgust on her face. "You're just jealous of Don! You signed the kidney donation consent form, and you're bitter about it, so you tried to kill him, didn't you? "Let me tell you something, Damon. You're not getting away with this!"Just then, the emergency room doors swung open. The doctor hurried out, drenched in sweat."Mr. and Mrs. Lawson, his kidneys were already failing. The fall caused severe internal bleeding, and his remaining kidney has ruptured badly. He needs a kidney transplant immediately, or he won't survive the night!"Barbara's legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed to the ground. She swiveled around, staring at I
