Lucien’s POV.

I completely lost control. Throwing all dignity aside, I grabbed the attending physician by the collar.

“The surgery failed? Impossible! I want to see Chloe. Where have you hidden her? She must still be alive!”

My head was ringing. I simply couldn't accept Chloe's death.

The doctor looked at me with sympathy, his voice heavy with sorrow. “Miss Moretti has indeed passed away.”

My entire body trembled. With bloodshot eyes, I roared, “Where is her body? Take me to her!”

I was caught up in an assassination attempt against Lucien by his enemies. The car flipped. Lucien’s arm was pierced by shattered glass and bled continuously. He held my unconscious form and dodged under a hail of bullets. Even after taking a bullet in the arm, Lucien still held me tightly in his arms. His blood soaked my clothes red. Lucien held on until reinforcements arrived before collapsing in a pool of blood. As for me, I had just been discharged and my body was still weak; I soon lost consciousness. Lucien was injured, but the moment he finished bandaging he ran over to find me. He was worried about my safety. “Chloe, how do you feel? Are you hurt anywhere?” Lucien asked anxiously. The injured Lucien looked somewhat disheveled. He wanted to hold me. I avoided him. I said lightly, “I’m fine.” Lucien was nearly heartbroken by my coldness. “Chloe, for you I can give up even my life. Please, love me one more time, alright? This time I absolutely will

Lucien charged toward me like a madman. He grabbed my wrist, completely out of control. “Chloe, it really is you. You're alive!”Tears shimmered in his eyes. He looked at me with the overwhelming joy of someone who had found what he'd lost, mixed with fury at being deceived.“Why did you lie to me? Why did you leave me?” Lucien demanded relentlessly.I met his gaze coldly. “My life has nothing to do with you.”I wanted nothing more to do with him.I tried to wrench my wrist free, but his grip was too strong.“Chloe, you're a member of the Moretti family!” Lucien gritted out. “I have every right to know what happens to you!”I took a deep breath, unwilling to argue with him.“Lucien, let go.”Just then, Antoine walked over.“Sir, please release Chloe.”His expression turned cold, clearly displeased by Lucien's behavior.Lucien's gaze fell on the bouquet of champagne-colored roses in Antoine's arms. His expression darkened.“Chloe, is this man the reason you left?” Lucien growled, abando

Chloe’s POV.I had faked my death. To leave the Moretti family for good, I had deliberately staged a failed surgery. In reality, my operation had been a complete success. After finishing my rehabilitation, I had recovered to the point where I was no different from an ordinary, healthy person.I then submitted an application to Professor William’s PI lab.I had been fascinated by plants and flowers since childhood, and both my undergraduate and master’s degrees were related to botanical research. When I graduated, numerous research teams had offered me positions.Yet I had chosen to return to Sicily.Back then, I had been deeply in love with Lucien. All I wanted was to stay by his side, never leaving him for a moment.A week later, I successfully joined Professor William’s research team. The person assigned to work with me was a tall British man with blond hair and blue eyes. He was courteous, gentlemanly, and spoke with a fluent London accent. His name was Antoine Deschamps, and he was

It felt as though my heart had stopped bea

Lucien’s POV.At the wedding, I searched the crowd for Chloe. But before I could find her, Harvey approached me and told me she was gone.“Gone? Where did she go?” My heart sank.Harvey remained calm. “Chloe only asked me to deliver the share transfer agreement to you. I don’t know anything else.”He had promised Chloe he would keep her secret.Panic surged through me, and I nearly shouted, “You don’t know? Harvey! Chloe is your fiancée!”“Mr. Moretti,” Harvey replied calmly, “Chloe and I have already called off our wedding.”I was about to demand an explanation when my right-hand man hurried over.“Don, Miss Moretti is in trouble.” His expression was grave. My breath caught, and unease crept into my chest. “What happened to her? Has she thrown another tantrum?”No matter what kind of trouble Chloe got herself into, I would always clean up her mess.I was her adoptive father. Taking care of her unconditionally was my responsibility. My right-hand man handed me a file. “These are Miss M

I returned to the estate. I went to the rose garden and dug up every rose Lucien had planted with his own hands, one by one. I cleared the ground so that in the future it would be convenient for Lucien to plant the tulips Vivian liked. After clearing the roses I returned to the house and continued packing late into the night. I took everything I could take with me. What I couldn’t take I put into the fireplace and burned, together with ten years of attachment and deep love. On the day of the wedding I woke early. My lung disease had flared up; I had barely slept through the pain all night. The Swiss hospital had arranged everything and was only waiting for me to fly over. Seeing me leave with my luggage, the servants came forward to ask where I was going. I didn’t want to make a scene, so I explained, “After Lucien and Vivian get married they’ll move in. I’m moving to another estate.” The servants didn’t suspect anything and watched me leave. On the way to the ai
