Draken POV – The Next Morning

I hadn’t slept. Not because I couldn’t, demons could sleep, but because the keep had been so damn loud. Emotions bounced off the walls like echoes: laughter, snoring, sex, gossip.

And Auren’s voice.

That soft, curious, too golden angel bastard voice had drifted right through the damn wall between our rooms. His wonderland bright energy had practically buzzed against my senses all night. Questions. So many damn questions. About me.

Which, on the one hand, had been flattering. On the other hand? It had made me want to throw him out a window.

So when I heard them in the hallway the next morning, all walking toward breakfast together, White Wolf and her three golden boys, I didn’t even pretend to be subtle. I swung my door open and leaned against the frame, shirtless, just to be a prick.

“Sleep well, sunshine?” I purred at Auren, watching him nearly trip over his own feet.

He blinked up at me. “…I didn’t know you were awake.”

“Oh, I was.” I smirked. “Hard not

Daeira POVLunaryn was laughing so hard in my head she was practically wheezing. “You’re gonna kill him or climb him like a fucking tree. There is no in between.”I groaned internally as Draken made yet another offhand comment about “spanking insubordinate alphas” and shoved a piece of bread in his mouth like he hadn’t just threatened to start a damn kink war at the breakfast table.“Why is he like this?” I muttered, sipping my tea.“Because the gods are dramatic bitches and so are we.”Touché.I inhaled slowly, letting my eyes sweep the dining hall. It was packed, with keep staff, trial contenders, witches, even the Moon Priestesses. Everyone was watching me, waiting, and wondering what the hell I was going to do about the demon who had swaggered into our lives like a fucking storm with abs.I stood, clearing my throat. The room went silent.“I have an announcement,” I said, my voice steady and, strong. “The gate has been temporarily sealed.”A wave of murmured relief broke through t

Draken POVFreedom tasted strange. Not sweet like I had imagined. Not some grand rush of elation or relief. No, it tasted like iron on the back of my tongue, like the coppery bite of blood and the smoke of a battlefield I had never truly left behind. Two centuries in Malrath’s pit had changed me. The hell realm hadn’t just scraped at my skin, it had clawed into my bones, hollowing out whatever was left until I was nothing but hunger and rage. Most demons broke. They became one with the screaming void and stopped caring about anything that wasn’t destruction. But I hadn’t broken. I wouldn’t.I had spent my time watching. Listening. Learning. Not just about demons, hell, I had known that game from the moment I came into existence, but about humans. Mortals. Their messy, beautiful chaos. They fought and loved with the same reckless abandon, and it fascinated me. They made music. Art. They laughed while bleeding. I wanted it. I had wanted in.But instead of the mortal realm, I had gotten

Daeira POVDinner ended without anyone flipping a table or starting a brawl, which, honestly, I counted as a win. But the walk back to our quarters? Yeah, that was another story.Draken sauntered beside us, his hands in his pockets, his voice dripping with sarcasm every time he opened his mouth.“So… these are the big bad protectors of the famous white wolf? Cute.”Kael’s jaw flexed. “You got something to say, demon?”Draken’s smirk deepened. “Plenty. But I’m trying to ease you into the truth slowly, wouldn’t want to bruise your egos all at once.”Riven stepped in front of him, blocking his path. “Let’s make one thing clear, you might be her mate, but that doesn’t mean you get to mouth off and act like you run things around here.”Auren, bless him, actually tried to play peacekeeper. “Maybe we should just...”Too late. Kael gave Draken a shove. Draken shoved back. Riven swung low to trip him, but before anything could connect, Draken’s body dissolved into swirling black smoke. The sce

Daeira POVI waved the crowd off, ordering them back to their business. No one argued, they kept glancing over their shoulders at Draken, but no one dared step forward. The man was all casual swagger and predator’s patience. He liked being stared at.“Follow me,” I told him, spinning on my heel.“Gladly,” he said, and of course his voice dripped with amusement, like he thought this was all one big joke. The twins and Auren fell in around us instantly. Riven on my right, Kael on my left, Auren at my back, like they were a walking wall of muscle between me and the demon. Draken noticed. Oh, did he notice.“Three guard dogs already?” he drawled. “You must be precious cargo.”Kael’s jaw tightened. “We’re her mates.”Draken smirked, his head tilting. “So am I, apparently. Guess that makes us family.”“Not yet,” Kael muttered, and Varien’s growl echoed faintly in my head through the bond.We reached the west wing, polished stone, high arched ceilings, the faint scent of fresh pine from the

  • The Last White Wolf & Her Chosen Kings   #61 Sealing the Hell Gate

Daeira POVThe Next MorningDawn came cold, the mist curling low over the fields as I strode toward the keep’s east gate. My armor was snug, my fighting leathers worn in just enough to move like a second skin. The ten witches Thessaly had chosen waited in a tight formation, all in deep green cloaks, their crystal satchels glinting faintly in the light."Ready, Alpha?" Thessaly asked."Let’s get it done," I said, glancing to my mates. Kael’s jaw was set like stone, Riven was humming some stupid tune, and Auren’s wings were twitching with restless energy.Hartfell gave the signal, and the air shimmered as the portal opened, spitting out a sharp tang of magic that made the hairs on my neck stand up.We stepped through. The world on the other side was… wrong. The sky seemed too heavy, the ground beneath us buzzing faintly like it was alive. Off ahead, the hell gate loomed, a black, jagged tear in the earth, its edges glowing with the strain of holding back whatever was clawing to get thro
