Chapter 2

Author: Cloudseeker
The crowd blocked the end of the hallway, and nothing seemed out of place.

"Mmhm!"

I was so close! Adrian had almost seen me.

Tony covered my mouth and yanked me back from behind.

"You almost ruined everything, you nasty girl!

"I'll make sure you learn your lesson!"

As Adrian turned to leave, I fought back with all my might, clawing at the thug's eyes.

Tony howled in pain and clutched his face, giving me a chance to break free.

However, before I could get far, a sharp pain exploded in my head, and the world spun.

I whirled around to see Tony with a baseball bat, his face twisted in anger.

I hit the ground hard, and they dragged me back like I was nothing but trash, leaving a trail of blood behind.

Back in the room, they did not hit my face but punched and kicked me everywhere else.

Blood sprayed all over the walls, even seeping under the door.

My clothes were drenched, and every part of me screamed in pain.

I almost blacked out so many times.

However, I could not give up. I did not want to die. I was so close to graduating, to being free!

After what felt like forever, they stopped.

As I was about to pass out, I heard a voice I knew.

"What's going on here?"

"Mr. Lyon, we caught a cheater who took millions from us. We were just teaching her a lesson."

I tried to make a sound to get Adrian's attention, but Tony crushed my hand under his boot and shoved a rag into my mouth.

"Keep this quiet, and clean this mess up," someone ordered.

The voices faded, and so did my hopes.

'Adrian, is this because I wouldn't marry you?' I wondered.

Suddenly, the door swung open.

Someone stepped inside.

"What's this? What happened to her?"

The newcomer frowned, and the other men looked scared.

"Mr. Ellis, she's being difficult. She claims she can buy her freedom, and she even claimed she's Mr. Lyon's fiancée!"

"A feisty one? Our new guest loves that kind of thing."

I was hauled into a tub and scrubbed down by a few people, then dumped on a bed like a lifeless doll.

I weakly clutched at the newcomer's sleeve.

"You're Mr. Ellis from the Lyon family. You've seen me before. Call Adrian!

"If you don't, you'll be sorry. He'll definitely take you down."

A goon charged at me, smacked my face hard, and flung my hand back onto the bed.

"Mr. Ellis, don't listen to this trickster. These girls will say anything to get away.

"This girl's worth $750 thousand. We can't afford to lose that kind of money."

My mouth and half my face were swollen, so all I could manage were tiny sobs.

The Capo, Ronald Ellis, narrowed his eyes, gave me a long look, and huffed.

"Everyone knows our Boss's favorite is the Sawyer family's Principessa. She's all grace and beauty, not at all like this wild child.

"We were going to have you do a simple job, but you disrespected Mr. Lyon, so don't expect any favors now."

He shot a look at Tony, who was chomping on a cigar, and jabbed a needle into my arm.

Before I could fully wake up, I was hit by a wave of burning heat.

As the drug kicked in and my face turned red-hot, they laughed and left, slamming the door behind them.

The room went pitch black. I bit down hard, fighting to keep my wits about me.

This was my chance.

I felt around in the dark and grabbed something solid.

Time passed, and when the door swung open again, I did not think twice before slamming the thing in my hand against the intruder's skull.

They yelped, clutching the back of their head.

I cursed the drug for sapping my strength. I had not been able to finish them off with that hit.

As they cursed back and ran for help, I did not waste a moment. I bolted for the door.

Coughs racked my body, and blood splattered on my face.

My eyes were blurry from the medicine, and my swollen mouth could not form words.

Upon turning another corner, I saw a dead end and felt total despair.

Trapped in this strange place full of enemies, I had no chance of escape.

The only way out of this pain seemed to be death.

However, I did not want to die! I had fought so hard to live, and I did not want to end it all now!

An alarm was buzzing softly. That man had told his goons to come.

I hid in a corner, waiting for the people in the room to leave after they heard the noise. Then, with all my will, I leaned on a nearby door and moved forward.

Suddenly, I heard Adrian's voice through the wall, full of joy.

"What?! Fiona's here?!"

Adrian looked pretty grim, but he still put on a smile for me."Fiona, don't stress. I'll track him down and make sure he learns what it costs to mess with you!"Just focus on your studies. I just got mixed up and made a mistake. Please let me go!"I need to see Anna. I need to say I'm sorry! We were so happy together. I can't believe she'd just drop me!"Let

Footsteps echoed outside the door, and then it swung open.Axel's eyes widened in shock at the sight of the person who walked in."Mr. Lyon?!"I could not help but let out a giggle. Almost everyone knew who the youngest mafia Boss around was. However, actually meeting a mafia Boss and recognizing him was rare."Axel, how did you know he's the godfather? You said you didn't know those people, right?"Adrian came over and casually put his arm around my waist. I shot him a look but did not pull away, and he stood a little taller, clearly feeling more confident.Axel looked panicked, his eyes shifting everywhere."I-I know a lot of people!""You sure do. Not only do you know me, but you also know my casino contact."Adrian let out a scoff, and Jack tossed a photograph of Tony at Axel's feet.Tony looked miserable in the photograph, too sad to look at.Axel was so scared he dropped to his knees, scrambling for an excuse."I-I was forced into it!"Tony said you were the one who

I gave Axel a look that was almost a smile. "Upset to see me alive? You've already started looking for someone new.""That's not true, Anna! I had to do it!"They said they'd hurt me if I didn't give you up! You wouldn't want to see those guys hurt me, right?"I laughed calmly. "Of course not. I'd like to be the one hurting you instead!"Axel's face turned pale in a flash, and he quickly sent the girl next to him away. When he faced me again, his expression turned stormy, and he glared at me with fury. "Even though I have no idea how you got back, do you really think a nobody like you can take me on? That's just ridiculous!" Axel eyed me with a mean glint. "You're worth so much. I could sell you once, and I can do it again!"If you dare to spread this, just you wait for what I'll do!" I could not help but laugh. "Axel, you're really shameless. Just wait. Payback's coming!"Axel obviously did not take my words seriously. He figured I could not lay a finger on him. He kept on w

Adrian signaled, and the others were taken away. The only one left was Tony, who had grabbed me first when I was dumped at the casino. His arms and legs had been broken, and he was shaking uncontrollably. "Axel must have fled back to his home country. He always bribes the thugs with money when he's caught. I got a cut, so I let him go."I was wrong, Mr. Lyon. Please forgive me. I won't do it again!"As Tony said that, he could not stand any longer and fell to the ground. Someone dragged him out.Adrian looked at me, his face serious. "Fiona, don't worry/ I'll make things right for you!"I'll bring that Axel to you!I shook my head."No. I want to take care of it myself!"It would be embarrassing if I could not get my revenge as the Sawyer family's only daughter.Adrian understood what I meant, his eyes full of love for me."Fiona, I admire your determination, but can I have a chance to make things right? I'll be the best help you could have. Just tell me what you need."I l

In the car to the port, I was tied up and dumped in the back seat. I watched as Axel was freed from his ropes. He pulled out a card, handed it to two goons, and walked off."Axel, you liar and cheat!"I yelled until my throat hurt, tears and spit flying. One of the goons punched me in the head, and the world spun.He was about to hit me again, but a phone call interrupted him."You idiot! Stop the car now!"Adrian's voice burst from the phone, making the driver jump and slam on the brakes. In a flash, a black sedan zoomed up to us, skidding to a halt with a dramatic swerve. The door swung open, and there was Adrian, his face a mask of panic. He rushed over and gently pushed the hair from my face, shaking all over."Fiona! I'm here, Fiona!"I managed a weak smile for him, relieved that I would not have to face death. However, a moment later, darkness took me, and I passed out. When I woke up, I could not tell how much time had passed.
