Chapter 6

Autor: Strawberry Jammy
The party had wound down, and Ethan escorted me back to the island.

The moment we stepped into the room, I sensed something was terribly wrong with the three kids.

They writhed in agony on the bed, their foreheads scorching to the touch.

No matter how much water I gave them to drink, their fever would not break.

Panic-stricken, I spun around to summon a doctor.

Then, Xylon's eyes flew open, revealing a bizarre black symbol swirling in his gaze.

Tyrone and Ray followed suit, their eyes mirroring the same eerie design.

"My loves! What's happening? Don't frighten me!"

Tears streamed down my face as I clutched them close, dabbing their skin with a damp cloth in vain.

Their condition remained unchanged.

Suddenly, the door burst open.

Ethan marched in, his expression turning grave at the sight of the children.

"Step aside."

He shrugged off his coat and unbuttoned his shirt, revealing a chest marked with the same cryptic symbol as the kids.

The fight was over in a flash.Ethan shifted back to his human form, his foot planted firmly on the vampire leader's head. "Spill: where's your hideout?"At first, the vampire boss tried to play it tough. However, a few snapped bones later, he sang like a canary.Ethan got the dirt on the vampire council's secret cave.He picked up another juicy tidbit. Those vamps had juiced themselves up to resist silver, but it made their hearing super sensitive. The right high-pitched sound could blow their minds, literally.Armed with that intel, Ethan wasted no time.He rallied the clan's warriors, and they laid siege to the vampire den. There was no need for a messy fight this time.Ethan commanded from the cave's mouth. The wolfkins inhaled deeply and unleashed a sonic assault of howls at the highest pitch. The sound waves rolled through the mountains, and the cave filled with the vampires' agonized screams.Their brains could not handle the noise and burst.Minutes later, there

Dawn greeted us with a radiant embrace.A bevy of spirited wolf maidens stepped into the chamber.Cradling wooden bowls brimming with crystal-clear spring water, the young maidens approached with a tenderness that calmed the air itself. They bathed me with such care, as if they were polishing sacred stones.Once cleansed, they presented a vibrant red fruit, mashing it into a rich, scarlet nectar. The shaman entered, her presence as commanding as the moon's pull. With a dip of her finger into the crimson liquid, she painted a crescent moon upon my brow."A wolfkin's blessing. A sacred shield from the Moon Goddess herself," she whispered.I then slipped into a new garment, a robe of woven silver that danced with the sunlight, casting a spellbinding glow. The children, too, donned their custom-tailored finery, their spirits as bright as their attire. Xylon clutched at my dress, while the younger two held baskets brimming with the day's freshest blooms."Mommy, you're so pretty!" th

Three days later, the social elites gathered for a lavish party aboard a massive yacht.Ethan was a shoo-in for the guest list, but he was adamant about bringing me along.I slipped into the white gown Ethan had chosen for me, the gemstone necklace glittering at my throat. The deck was aglow with lights, thronged with high society. As Ethan escorted me into the limelight, heads turned.Their looks were a mix of astonishment and jealousy.A portly man with a wine glass in hand approached us, beaming. "And who might this lovely lady be?"Ethan pulled me close, his arm secure around my waist, and declared for all to hear, "Meet Chloe, the mother of my children."The room went dead silent.Everyone knew Ethan was supposed to be cursed, unable to father any children. The high society ladies shot me looks that could kill. However, Ethan brushed off their stares and leaned in, his breath warm against my ear as he said, "Don't worry, I've got you."Just then, a jarring voice cut th

The once intimidating bodyguards were then shaking in their boots, each one stepping back to the sidelines. The trio of little pups was just as petrified, scrambling to find safety in my arms.Wendy wasted no time playing the damsel in distress, rushing to Ethan with tears in her eyes."Oh, my love! You're back at last!"These mongrels have been snapping at everyone!"I was so worried they'd hurt you, so I told the guys to shoo them off, but who knew..."She pointed at the gash on my forehead, her voice dripping with self-pity."Can you believe Chloe banged her own head against the wall? She's trying to make me look bad in front of you!"Ethan, she's got a heart of stone!"There I was, sprawled on the freezing floor, feeling every ache in my body.Wendy's lips were moving, but truth was nowhere to be found. I kept silent. After all, the words of the underdog often sound like a punchline. However, Ethan did not even throw a pity glance Wendy's way.He strode over to me and

Then it was just Wendy and me in the study. In the suffocating silence, Wendy slowly turned to face me, her gaze venomous. She stared for a few seconds, then sneered."Don't think for a second that Ethan's mercy means you're safe."The role of the Gibson family matriarch is mine and mine alone; no one else stands a chance!" she declared. With her head held high, she strutted off, deliberately slamming her shoulder into mine as she passed.I gripped my shoulder, my back slick with a cold sweat. In that instant, fear was the furthest thing from my mind; all I could think about was the puzzle of it all.Ethan was known for his ruthlessness, so why had he spared me? He did not even lose his temper when the family heirloom diamond got slobbered on by the pups. The three little pups seemed to sense they were in trouble, cautiously coming over to lick my hand. "Don't cry, Mommy. The meanies who picked on you are gone now."I held them close, but the tears just kept coming. The next
