Chapter 1

Autor: Crystal K
I'd had one drink of Elder's Blood at my brother's club, and now some woman was blocking my exit, demanding I pay with my own heart's blood.

Even after I told her who I was, she spat her venom, convinced I was a liar.

I took a deep breath and reached for our blood-link.

Ancient words flowed through my mind, searching for my connection to Corvus.

Nothing.

No, not nothing. It was blocked.

A dark, malevolent energy shrouded our blood-bond like a thick, black fog.

I opened my eyes. Scarlett was staring at me, a smug look on her face.

"Can't reach him?" Her tone dripped with scorn. "Looks like he's tired of you."

I forced myself to stay calm.

"I own this place," I said, my voice low and steady. "I am the true Lord of House Volkov. If you push me, I'll have the goblin bankers show you the blood-sealed deed."

At this, Scarlett didn't back down. Instead, she burst into a shrill laugh.

"The true Lord?" She swayed toward me, her fiery red hair swinging like flames. "A whore who crawled into his bed dares to call herself a Lord?"

Suddenly, she raised her right hand. On her wrist was a silver bracelet etched with complex runes.

The runes flashed a blood-red light.

I felt my power drain, crushed by an invisible force.

My knees buckled. I nearly collapsed.

"Feel that?" Malice glinted in Scarlett's eyes. "A gift from Corvus himself. Made especially for... women who don't know their place."

I gritted my teeth, trying to summon my power. Nothing. It was like fighting against an invisible net—the more I struggled, the weaker I became.

"You think I don't know who you are?" Scarlett leaned in close, her voice a venomous whisper. "I'm to be Corvus's blood-bonded mate. I've known about his little flings for a while now."

Her voice grew more vicious.

"One night, he came home drunk, stinking of your cheap perfume! And you, the bitch who seduced my mate, actually dare to show your face here!"

I was speechless.

So this was the girlfriend Corvus was too scared to bring home to the family?

His mate?

This pathetic creature, so weak-blooded she couldn't even sense my true power, was trying to trap me with some ridiculous house rule?

"Not only did you seduce my man, you stole precious Elder's Blood!" Scarlett's voice rose, loud enough for everyone to hear. "A low-life leech, daring to steal from the nobility!"

"I am..." I managed to say, but she cut me off.

"You're what? An old hag? A whore trying to latch onto a noble? You don't deserve to live!" Scarlett sneered.

Rage burned in my chest. I fought to break free.

But my power was completely suppressed. I couldn't even cast the most basic vampire spell.

Scarlett turned to the crowd.

"You are all witnesses! This woman cannot pay for the Elder's Blood. Her crime is unforgivable!"

Two massive guards stepped out of the crowd. They held silver-laced chains, their eyes cold.

The sharp scent of silver filled the air, weakening me further.

"Last chance," Scarlett said, turning back to me with a smirk. "Kneel. Confess your crime and pay with your heart's blood. Or else..."

"Or else what?" I bit out.

"Or else you'll have plenty of time to reflect in the Sun Chamber."

The two guards lunged. The silver chains whistled through the air.

I tried to dodge, but my body was too slow. The cold metal bit into my wrists and ankles.

Searing pain shot through me.

"Drag her away!" Scarlett shrieked.

I was hauled across the marble floor. The vampire nobles around me just watched. No one lifted a finger.

The elevator doors opened. They threw me inside.

Up. One floor, two, three... all the way to the top.

The penthouse Sun Chamber.

The moment the doors opened, blinding light assaulted me.

My eyes burned, and tears streamed down my face.

Unlike the rest of the dark club, this room was hellishly bright.

A special skylight let in amplified ultraviolet rays—a death sentence for a weakened vampire.

The room was filled with silver instruments of torture. The air stank of dried blood and cold metal.

I was thrown to the floor. The burn of the chains and the glare of the light made me black out.

One year later.I stood in the top-floor office of the Volkov Bio-Tech corporation, looking out over the city.Beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, neon lights glittered. The city thrived under my control."Ma'am, the third-quarter report," my secretary said, placing the file on my desk.I opened it.Revenue up 300%.Market share at 85%.Our revolutionary synthetic blood, "EternaSource," had completely transformed vampire society. No more reliance on human blood. No more fear of contamination.Every noble house was scrambling to buy our product.House Volkov's position had never been stronger."Anything else?" I asked without looking up."The Vampire Council would like you to consider becoming the new High Chancellor."I paused.High Chancellor. The supreme ruler of vampire society."Tell them I'll consider it."After my secretary left, I walked to the window. The assets I seized from Corvus were the final pieces of my puzzle. His clumsy attempts at building power, once I took control,

Three months later.Scarlett was in the Lightless Abyss, never to return. And Corvus...His life now was worse than death.Having lost his vampire powers, he was even weaker than a normal human. His body, once adapted to a vampire's existence, was now in a constant state of extreme frailty. His former friends avoided him like the plague. The nobles who once flocked to him now crossed the street to avoid him."Look, it's the waste Morana threw away.""Pathetic. A fall from grace.""Serves him right for betraying his house."The rumors followed him everywhere.Corvus lived in a rundown apartment on the edge of the city, surviving on odd jobs.He tried to contact me, but every line of communication was cut.In desperation, he went to Chloe."Please, help me contact Morana," Corvus begged, kneeling outside Chloe's magic shop. "I just want to see her one more time."Chloe looked coldly at the man who was once so proud."She doesn't want to see you.""I know I was wrong! I'll do anything to

Corvus collapsed, the light in his eyes completely extinguished.I took the Scepter of House Volkov from my Nightguard captain. It was a staff of pure silver, topped with a blood-red gem.The gem held the power of every Lord in our family's history.I raised the scepter, and a silver light illuminated the entire ballroom."By the authority of the thirteenth Lord of House Volkov," my voice rang throughout the manor, "I issue this supreme decree to all members of our house!"The gem on the scepter began to glow, its red light pulsing like blood, carrying my will.Every vampire with Volkov blood, no matter where they were, could hear my voice."First," I declared, my voice echoing with power, "I hereby cut Corvus off from the Volkov family's blood stores. He is to be denied every drop."Corvus's head snapped up, his eyes wide with panic."No... you can't..."I ignored his pleas and continued."Second, by my authority as Lord, I unilaterally dissolve the pseudo-kin pact made with Corvus. Corvus lay in the rubble, his face streaked with blood. He pushed himself up, his expression one of pure humiliation."You..." He coughed up blood. "You dare to strike me...""That was to wake you up," I said coldly. The remaining guests backed away, terrified of being caught in the crossfire. The ballroom was dead silent.I looked around, making sure everyone could hear what I was about to say."Since you claim I've controlled everything," my voice boomed through the hall, "then let me ask you, Corvus."I pointed to the luxurious rug at his feet."Who gave you this manor?"Corvus froze."Answer me!" I snapped."It was... you..." he choked out."And these servants, these cars, this lavish lifestyle," I pressed on. "Who provided them?"Corvus's face grew even paler."You did...""The pure blood delivered to your private stock every month? The priceless vials of Elder's Blood?" I cornered him."It was... all you..."The guests began to whisper."So Morana gave Corvus everything?""Then w

Scarlett let out a desperate scream."No! You can't take me!" She struggled wildly. "Corvus! Save me!"She turned to Corvus, her eyes wide with terror and pleading."You said you'd protect me! You swore it!"Corvus's face was a mask of horror. He looked from the enforcers to Scarlett, and finally, his eyes landed on me."Wait!" he suddenly shouted, stepping in front of the enforcers. The enforcers paused, the eyes behind their helmets glinting coldly."Do you intend to obstruct justice?""This isn't obstruction," Corvus said, though his voice trembled. "This is a family matter. The Council has no jurisdiction here."Low murmurs spread through the room."A family matter?""What is their relationship?""Corvus is daring to stand up to the enforcers..."The enforcer's voice grew colder. "Family matters do not include the use of beast blood to contaminate a pureblood. That violates our most fundamental law."Corvus gritted his teeth and turned to me."Call them off, Morana," he begged. A dead silence fell over the ballroom.Everyone stared in horror at me and the Nightguard behind me.I walked toward the center of the room, step by step. Each footfall radiated an oppressive power. The guests scrambled backward, clearing a path for me.Corvus stood in the crowd, his face as white as a sheet. Fear flickered in his eyes, but he quickly forced himself to stand tall."Morana?" His voice trembled slightly. "What... what are you doing here?"When Scarlett saw my face, she didn't show fear. She grew even bolder."It's her!" she shrieked, pointing at me. "She's the one who assaulted me! Corvus, do you see? This old hag dared to show up at your door!"She hid behind Corvus, playing the innocent victim."She attacked me at the club, she threatened me, and now she's brought all these people here for revenge!"I completely ignored her performance. My eyes were fixed on Corvus."The silver bracelet you gave her," I said, my voice like ice. "Where did you steal it from?"Corvus's f
