Chapter 7

Author: Sugar Cake
Joy flagged down a car by the roadside and made her way home.

Little did she know that she would see a heart-wrenching scene as soon as she entered the building.

Wrapped in a blanket, Charmaine was curled up on the couch, looking like a wounded kitten.

Leon was beside her, cautiously feeding her soup, spoonful by spoonful. Out of the corner of his eye, Leon saw Joy. His gaze was like a sharp knife, carrying an almost tangible sense of disgust.

"How dare you come back!" Hector strode forward and slapped Joy hard.

Joy felt the world spin and almost lost her balance.

"I know you're unhappy about Charmaine's return, but she's your sister after all. Aren't you afraid of traumatizing her with such a prank? If Leon hadn't arrived in time, who knows what would have happened?!"

Charmaine was inwardly gloating but hypocritically advised, "Dad, don't hit Joy. I'm fine, aren't I?"

"Don't speak up for this brat!" " Hector's chest rose and fell violently, looking extremely furious.

Joy stood still, her ears buzzing.

The next second, Leon, who had been silent, finally spoke up. "Apologize to Charmaine." The man's tone was icy.

Joy gritted her teeth. She did not know where she got the courage from, but she retorted, "I won't apologize."

She understood it when the kidnappers tortured her. Charmaine had arranged the kidnapping to frame her and make her the vicious sister.

She did nothing wrong. Why should she apologize?

Charmaine sighed and pretended to be generous. "Forget it, Leon. Joy probably didn't do it on purpose. I don't want to ruin our bond as sisters..."

"She almost killed you. Is it too much to ask for an apology?" Leon stared at Joy, the disgust in his eyes intensifying.

When did Joy become so wild and unruly?

Hector was also angered by Joy's stubbornness. He grabbed Joy's arm and dragged her over to Charmaine. It was when Joy groaned in pain that he noticed that her arm was densely covered with burns. Hector frowned.

Just when he was about to ask what happened, he heard Leon say icily, "You put yourself in such a state to frame Charmaine. Joy, you really took the words 'by any means necessary' to a whole new level."

Hector heard this, and his confusion instantly dissipated, replaced by a stronger sense of fury. He grabbed Joy's shoulders and pressed down hard, forcing her to kneel heavily on the ground. "You exist because of me, but it seems that you have completely forgotten this!"

Joy raised her head numbly and met Leon's icy gaze.

He hugged Charmaine, looking condescending as if he was examining a prisoner, while Joy knelt in front of him, her dignity long since crushed.

Leon was inexplicably uneasy about her stubborn gaze. He repeated coldly. "Joy, as long as you apologize to Charmaine, I can let this matter go."

Joy burst into laughter when she heard that. She glared at Leon with red eyes and uttered, "Let me repeat myself. I won't apologize. You can kill me or cut me up as you like."

Leon froze, and the little pity left in his eyes disappeared.

After that, Hector continued to beat and scold her.

Joy was already very weak, and she soon lay on the ground and lost consciousness.

...

Joy had no idea how long she had been unconscious. When she woke up, the living room was empty. She endured the excruciating pain all over her body, supported herself on the couch with both hands, and staggered back to her room to check her luggage.

Before closing the suitcase, Charmaine's voice came from behind.

Charmaine leaned against the door frame with a contemptuous smile. "Do you like the farewell gift I prepared for you? I wanted to keep you until the engagement party so that you could give me and Leon your blessing, but unfortunately, Dad refused.

"He felt that you had humiliated the Quinn family and didn't want you to stay here for a second longer.

"Joy, never come back after you leave. After all, this family is only complete without you. Also, thank you for being my husband's free plaything for two years. You made sure that he wasn't so lonely without me.”

Joy pursed her lips tightly and said nothing.

The suitcase closed with a thud, also sealing her last trace of nostalgia she felt for this family.

Before dawn the next day, Joy boarded a flight to go abroad. She left resolutely. Before boarding the plane, she deleted all of Leon's contact information without hesitation.

The plane flew across the vast sky, leaving white chemtrails and completely ending her disgraceful past.

On the night of the event, Ian went to the campsite with a heavy bag on his back. He set up the tent, arranged snacks, and lit a bonfire all by himself. He did not allow Joy to dirty her hands at all. When everything was set up, he patted the soft cushion and allowed Joy to sit down first. Then, he took out the blanket he had prepared in advance and draped it over her. "This seat is great. I'll be in charge of taking photos later. You're in charge of seeing the northern lights." After Ian finished speaking, he suddenly felt a tug on his sleeve.Joy tugged at his sleeve. "Beautiful scenery is meant to be captured with your eyes. Sit down and let’s enjoy it together."Ian's ears turned red again. While waiting for the northern lights, neither of them spoke.Joy stuffed snacks into her mouth while feeling the warmth of the bonfire.Just then, a news article popped up on her phone.[Former business tycoon Leon Scott passed away this morning. Joy remained in recovery for quite some time.Lisa had been blaming herself for pushing Joy into the lion's den, so she voluntarily stayed by Joy's side and took care of her. Lisa rarely mentioned Leon in front of Joy. Whenever she did, she would criticise him harshly. It was also because of Leon that she began to have an aversion to good-looking men and would constantly say that no handsome men were good. With Lisa's company, Joy gradually emerged from her state of gloom. In early April, she packed her bags to return to Astoria with Lisa to continue her studies.Hector saw her off at the airport and reluctantly urged her to take good care of herself.Just as the two were about to go through the security check, a figure came into view. Wearing a loose hospital gown, Leon stumbled toward her in desperation.Lisa quickly shielded Joy behind her and shouted angrily, "Scumbag, why aren't you dead?"Leon seemed to not have heard Lisa. He looked past Lisa toward Joy, pleading desper

"Joy!" Hector hugged Joy tightly as he burst out in tears. After Joy went abroad, he had been worried and sent her money on time every month. It was not until Joy's account was found untouched that he learned she had secretly joined the medical aid program in a war zone. Every day, he wondered whether Joy was doing well and if she had encountered any danger in the war zone.Later, he learned that Leon had taken Joy back to Jameson City. The villa was heavily guarded. After several failed attempts to break through, he had no choice but to set fire to the place.Fortunately, Joy was rescued."Joy, it's my fault! I shouldn't have accused you and made you suffer so much..." Hector sobbed, his tone filled with remorse. He thought Joy had led a promiscuous life and accused her of being jealous of Charmaine. It was only later that he realized Joy had been the victim all along. Leon and Charmaine toyed with her, not only ruining her reputation but also nearly killing her.! Hector was remo

Leon confined Joy.In the huge villa, Joy's wrists and ankles were tightly bound with cold iron chains. Every slight struggle made a crisp sound. It was that moment that she realized Leon was more terrifying than he seemed. He traveled thousands of miles to the war zone to find her not for love, but to satisfy his ridiculous sense of possessiveness."Leon, what do I really mean to you?" Joy asked Leon after her 38th failed escape.Leon caressed her face with infatuation, the greed in his eyes like a blazing flame. He replied, "You're the person I love the most."Joy suddenly laughed. Tears covered her face afterward.During her imprisonment, Leon had the kitchen prepare various delicious meals every day, while luxury goods worth tens of millions of dollars were sent to her.Even the housekeepers advised her to settle down as his wife and not go against him. After all, she could live a life of luxury where everything was provided for her. However, the more Leon gave, the emptie

Joy followed the main force to the front line, her gaze eagerly moving through the ruins. It was unknown how long it took before she finally found Leon beside an abandoned truck.Leon was carried onto the stretcher. However, as the stretcher was being moved, the mask on his face fell off.Lisa exclaimed, "Oh my god, he's handsome!"Joy lowered her head. The moment she saw Leon's face, her breathing stopped instantly.'Leon... It's really him!' Joy pondered inwardly. At the same time, Leon, who was on the stretcher, opened his eyes. Seeing Joy beside him, he grabbed her wrist without hesitation. His voice trembled as if he had survived a disaster. "Joy, don't go..."Lisa widened her eyes. "Do you know each other?"Joy did not know how to explain. She struggled hard, but Leon's hand was like a steel shackle. She could not shake it off, no matter how hard she tried. The two returned to the camp in this strange manner.Joy wanted to leave, but Leon refused and only allowed her to

The sharp shrapnel hit the man's back, leaving streaks of blood. However, the man did not move at all. He just gritted his teeth, grunted, and muttered, "It's dangerous here. Come with me."Joy was forcibly taken back to a tent by the man.It was not until then that Joy noticed that the man was covered in blood, and the wounds caused by the shrapnel were so deep that his bones were visible. She quickly made the man sit on a chair. "Don't move. I'll treat your wounds."The man did not refuse.Joy carefully cut open the man's clothes and gently picked out the shrapnel embedded in the flesh with tweezers. She was focused on every movement. It was not until Joy had bandaged his wound that she noticed the strange black mask he was wearing."Your face...""It was burned. I don't want to scare others."Joy pursed her lips. Just as she was about to thank him for earlier, Lisa appeared out of nowhere and excitedly pulled her aside. "Joy, did you see his face?""What?" Joy asked.Lisa r
