The light in my eyes got dim.
So this was how it all ended? Again, like our fate was twisted.
Smoke went down my throat thick and hard to breathe. My chest got tight with every breath. The flames came closer, eating up the walls, the ceiling, everything.
I shut my eyes, maybe… This was for the best.
At least this time I wouldn’t waste seven years begging for love that wasn’t mine.
And then suddenly, a hand grabbed my wrist. Before I could move my body got yanked forward the world spinning as I crashed into a chest.
“Hold on to me!” The voice was low, commanding.
My wolf surged unexpectedly, stronger than she had in years, responding to him before I even understood why. His scent was unfamiliar… yet my wolf leaned toward him instead of away.
An arm wrapped around my waist. Lifted me like I weighed nothing. Not carefully, more like I was something that needed to be moved fast.
BOOM!
An explosion happened ahead. The man’s grip got tighter, his hand spreading over the back of my head, forcing my face into his chest. Heat hit us from behind, the wave intense it felt like my skin might burn off.
The air smelled of burning chemicals, smoke, and something metallic.
My wolf, weak as she was, stirred faintly inside me, confused. I forced my eyes open despite the sting, trying to see him.
A mask covered most of his face and all I could see were his eyes, which were bright and then an unusual scar on his chin.
Through the smoke, I saw another figure outside the burning room, it was Lucas. He had already made it out and Vera was still in his arms. From this distance, even through the smoke, I could sense it, the way his aura wrapped around her protectively, like a true Alpha shielding his chosen Luna.
He held her tightly like she was something he had almost lost forever.
His face, I had never seen him like that before.
I shut my eyes, a single tear slipped down my temple disappearing into the soot on my skin.
I understood now, Lucas had come back too and reborn just like me.
In our previous life… he couldn't save Vera. That regret had followed him for seven years.
I had seen it every day but never made sense of it but now I do, in the way he feared fire, in the distance in his eyes, in the way he never truly let me in. In the way… he never let me have his child.
This time he chose differently, his wolf had chosen her without hesitation. He saved her and corrected his supposed mistake by ending his regret and leaving me to burn.
Before everything faded I thought I heard an urgent voice in the distance, “Where is she?! Where’s Ava?!”
Lucas, I almost laughed because he didn’t mean me. If he did, he would have tried to save me too. I turned around and the strange man was gone.

“Ava! You’re safe!” My chest tightened instantly.
“Mom…” My voice broke before I could stop it.
She was here, alive and real. I sat up fast and threw myself into her arms holding onto her as if I let go she might disappear again.
“I missed you so much…” God I had missed her.
In my previous life, less than six months after I married Lucas my parents had died in a plane crash and their bodies were not found.
After that, the world had turned cold. Although Lucas had been there, not really, while everyone else had only cared about one thing, ”why hadn’t the Luna conceived yet?”
Every whisper, every look and every forced smile.
I had carried it all alone.
Many nights I had woken up crying, wishing just once that my mom would hold me again and tell me everything would be okay.
Now she is here, her body warm and she's alive. Maybe fate hadn’t completely given up on me.
“Were you scared last night?" she asked softly brushing my hair back. "Thank goodness Lucas reacted quickly. Rushed in to save you. I was terrified…”
My expression stilled. Save me? Lucas? That was… funny because he hadn’t even looked back.
Before I could speak she continued, her voice trembling slightly:
“My baby is about to get married… If anything had happened to you what would I have done?”
Married?
The word landed heavily. I pulled back slowly meeting her eyes.
This time… everything was different. In the previous life Lucas had made his choice but now, I would make mine.
I tightened my grip on her hand, my voice steady despite the storm inside me.
“Mom…”
“I’m not marrying Lucas, never!”
”You have no choice my sweetheart, everything is already finalized..” She replied.
No choice? In my previous life I had none but not this time!
AVA"Do you want me to stay inside with you?" Amina asked. She was worried. I hadn't said a thing the entire way to the hall and I hadn't meant to turn her curiosity into concern, but these were matters she wouldn't have solutions for. The best she could do was what she had already been doing , offering comfort."You helped me dress, wheeled me out of the house and into the car," I said with a small smile. "What more could I possibly ask of you?""Anything more that you need, Miss Ava. That's why I'm here," Amina said."You don't need to worry." I kept my voice light. "I'm sure this meeting isn't something worth losing hairs over. It's probably because of Lucas." I said that name with the particular brand of dread that came from knowing exactly what kind of mess a person left behind them when they walked out of a room. Thinking about it now. I shouldn’t be taking anything he said at face value. The way they called for this meeting sparked a thought that made me growl. He did say h
AVAThe security guard looked at me like I had asked a question that wasn't just odd but was completely detached from our current conversation."I thought you would know, Miss Ava," the guard said slowly, his eyes darting back to the gate as if he had let a potentially dangerous man walk free."Maybe he was referring to the meeting going on inside right now," I said. It stung that I had to remind myself about those two backstabbers still in there, but I didn't want to paint Kael up as a villain."Okay, Miss Ava," the guard said. Hopefully he took my word for it, enough to make a good second impression."Please can you wheel me back?" I requested, and he did so, helping me back to where I had been positioned in the first place. The cook came shortly after."Miss Ava, I wondered if you were hungry, so I've made something light. The herbs in it should also help accelerate your healing," she assured me."Fine," I agreed. "But take me inside first," I said, hoping the meeting inside would
AVAMate! Mate! Mate!My wolf growled so hard inside I felt her heart beat triple its normal rate. I placed a careful hand on my chest as if that would stop her wolf from howling around and trying to give her a heart attack. This odd sensation was something I hadn't felt this intensely before. My wolf was practically screaming for the two of us to meet, to touch, but her intuition spoke otherwise. This man, what was his business here?I wasn't about to wheel over there and start a conversation. Especially since he was actually talking to one of the security guards instead. I didn't want to overthink it, probably this whole thing was a coincidence, that today was a fateful day for randomness, but even with my wolf snarling at me almost as if she was going to lunge forward and have him all to herself, I didn't break my composure. Ava inhaled and exhaled in vacuums and it did help to calm her speeding heart, but it did little , no, next to nothing , to calm her overly excited wolf.
AVAMy mother. The moment she heard my voice she turned to me. Her eyes got all teary, the anger she had just a minute ago disappearing.I forced a smile even though I was still feeling pretty tense inside."Mom, do not get so upset, " I said softly, trying to calm her down before things got worse. "It is not worth getting sick over someone like that."As I stopped my wheelchair Lucas finally looked at me and for a second something flashed across his face like he just remembered I was there. His eyes went to my leg. His face got a little tighter."Your leg..." he said, his voice changing. I could hear the tension in it. "Is it okay?" For a brief moment, his aura wavered, like his wolf was reacting before he could suppress it.I looked him in the eye. I gave him a small cold smile."If I had gotten really hurt last night " I said slowly "Mr. Lucas Dan, what would have mattered to you?"I thought to myself of course he did not even remember why I got hurt in the place he was so busy wit
AVAFrom the corridor, I listened to every word, a faint bitter smile slowly curling at the corners of my lips.Sister. That is what Lucas called me.After seven years of marriage in our previous life after countless nights spent in the illusion of tenderness after everything I had endured and sacrificed he had reduced it all to a single casual word. Sister.Even though I had already made up my mind to let go of the pain, it still came, sharp and sudden stabbing through my chest as if it had never left.Downstairs the living room had fallen into a suffocating silence so heavy it felt like the air itself had thickened. My mother stood frozen in place staring at Lucas as though she had never truly known him before her gaze slowly shifted to the woman standing beside him, Vera.Vera lowered her head slightly, her teeth pressing into her lip, her expression carefully arranged to look conflicted and guilty as though she were the unwilling victim of a situation she could not control. My mot
AVAMy mother's face was a picture of shock when I told her I did not want to marry Lucas. She just stood there frozen. After a moment she let out a sigh. It was a sound that said she felt helpless."The wedding is all arranged, Ava," she said. "The invitations have been sent out. How can you say something like this now?"I buried my face in her shoulder. I held onto her like a child. I did not want to let her go."I do not want to be far from you,” I said. My voice was muffled against her shoulder. My mother stroked my hair, her touch was warm and gentle. It was a touch I knew well."You silly girl,” she said. She was trying to be calm. I could hear the concern in her voice. "You have loved Lucas since you were little. You have always wanted to marry him and have a family with him. So why do you not want to now?"Her words hurt me. They felt like a knife turning in my chest.I could not say anything for a moment.Because she was right. In the previous life, I had loved Lucas for as l
