Chapter 6

Author: Peachy
Aria's POV

Caleb changed my bandages himself. Then he carried me down to the silver-lined cell in the basement, the one used to isolate feral wolves.

The walls were coated in high-purity silver dust, pressing down on what little wolf energy I had left.

“I know this isn’t comfortable, but Rowan’s diagnosis means you have to stay here for a few days to calm the public down.”

Caleb tucked a soft cashmere blanket around me and placed a container with a prime steak next to the bed. “Don’t be afraid. It will all be over in a few days. I’ll be back to see you later.”

He gently stroked my cheek. He even leaned down and pressed a long, loving kiss to my forehead.

I closed my eyes, too tired to even struggle.

The second the lock clicked shut, my eyes snapped open. I leaned over the side of the bed and dry-heaved.

Suddenly, I heard hushed voices outside the cell door.

It was Caleb and Rowan.

“You think locking her up with a fake diagnosis is a good idea? She’ll hate you for this,” Caleb’s voice was tense. “She has a silver injury. The silver in that room will be agony for her.”

“Would you rather the pack demand her exile? Are you feeling sorry for her now?” Rowan shot back coldly. “Besides, Chloe’s coming-of-age ceremony is in two days. The day we announce our bonding. Locking Aria up is the only way to guarantee the ceremony goes off without a hitch. She’s too stubborn. If she’s out, she’ll expose Chloe.”

“I’ll make it up to her,” Caleb said after a deep breath. “As soon as the ceremony is over, I’ll get her out.”

Their footsteps faded away.

The cell was dead silent.

I lay on the cold floor, feeling like my insides were being twisted into knots.

Of course.

All this pain, all this calculated affection… it was all to make sure Chloe’s perfect ceremony wasn’t ruined.

“Cough… cough, cough!”

I coughed up a mouthful of blood. The bright red splattered across the pure white blanket, a shocking stain.

I don’t know how I survived that afternoon.

When night fell and the basement was plunged into darkness, a soft hiss came from the air vent.

A faint, sweet-smelling gas began to fill the cell.

Wolfsbane Sedative.

To a healthy wolf, it would just put them to sleep.

But for me—weak from the termination, suffering from a severe silver wound—my organs couldn’t handle the poison.

“Cough, cough!” My throat felt like it was on fire. A tearing pain ripped through my lungs.

To make sure I stayed quiet tonight, to make sure I didn’t cause a scene, they didn’t even care if it killed me.

The feeling of suffocation grew stronger. My vision swam with black spots. The poison was draining the last of my strength.

Just as I thought I was going to die in this hellhole…

BEEP!

The sound of a keycard swiping.

The heavy cell door was thrown open. A figure rushed in, slammed the gas valve shut, and dragged me out of the room.

“Luna! Wake up!”

I gasped for the fresh air in the hallway, my vision slowly clearing.

It was Tessa, the maid.

Her face was streaked with tears. She was clutching a black backpack.

“Go! Everyone is at the bonfire gathering tonight. The guards are distracted. Go, now!”

She shoved the backpack into my arms, tears streaming down her face.

“Here’s the ticket you bought. And some cash and medicine. The bus leaves tomorrow morning. Take the underground tunnel and get out of here. And never, ever come back!”

I looked at the heavy bag in my hands, my eyes burning.

“Tessa…”

“Go!” she sobbed, giving me a hard push. “They don’t care if you live or die! They don’t deserve you!”

I bit my lip. I slung the backpack over my good shoulder. Without looking back, I stepped into the dark tunnel.

Wind howled in from the exit, drying the cold sweat on my face.

It blew out the last spark of warmth I had for the Silverpaw pack.

I wouldn’t cry for them again. Not one more tear.

Aria clutched her bag in the darkness and fled the pack lands.

Caleb. Rowan.

You will never see me again.

  • The Luna He Marked To Silence the Truth   Chapter 20

Caleb's POVOn the northern border, the snow came earlier than usual this year. The wind threw icy pellets against the windshield of the SUV."Alpha, here's the battle report from the Rogue stronghold," my Beta second-in-command said, handing me the file. His voice was low. He didn't dare look at me.I took the file, glanced at the numbers, signed it, and tossed it onto the passenger seat.My Beta turned up the heat, but he still didn't speak. He didn't know, and he didn't dare ask, about the necklace I'd been clutching in my coat pocket for the entire drive. It was old, the plating worn and dull, a tiny crack on one edge.A cheap thing I’d bought years ago with my first Alpha stipend.I never thought this necklace would become my only comfort.Late at night, when the camp was quiet, I would sit alone in the truck, rubbing it between my fingers for hours.I'd close my eyes and see her again, at that Pack Full Moon Party. The lights, the music, the crowd. And her, in a white dress, the

Aria's POVRain hammered against the windowpane.I pulled back the curtains. A man was standing under the eaves across the street.Soaked to the bone. Motionless. Like a gray stone statue. It was Caleb.I threw on a coat, grabbed an umbrella, and went down into the rain."How long have you been standing here?" I stopped in front of him. The umbrella shielded most of his face.He looked up. His eyes were as red as if they'd been soaked in blood. Rain, or something else, dripped down his jaw. The once-proud Alpha was now just a pathetic, sodden mess."I wanted to see you one more time," his voice was shaking. "Aria, please. Just look at me. Please."His tone, his expression... it was exactly the same as when he used to wrap his lies in a package of false devotion.I stared at him for a long time. I couldn't even summon the energy to be angry.I pushed the umbrella into his hand."Caleb, I don't hate you." My voice was flat. A final verdict. "But I will never love you again. My wolf has R

Aria's POVThe party ended close to midnight.Julian opened the car door for me, but he didn't start the engine."Not driving tonight," he said, loosening his tie and tossing it in the back seat. "Let's walk. It's only a few blocks."I frowned. "You've been drinking.""It's an excuse," he said with a lazy smile, but his eyes held a seriousness I couldn't quite read. "Walk with me."The night air was cool. The streetlights stretched our shadows long behind us.We walked side by side, neither of us mentioning the showdown at the party, or Caleb's grim face, or Rowan's trembling hands."You didn't have to help me today. I could have handled it myself," I joked, trying to break the silence."I know," Julian said, turning to look at me, a slight smile on his lips. "Just helping out. Taking out the trash for you.""Helping out?""Mmm, helping out," he repeated, his tone so light it made it sound like nothing, but it was strangely comforting. He stopped when we reached my apartment building.

Aria's POV"These are rare healing herbs. You've always been weak, you need to build up your strength."The security guard had stopped him, but his voice still carried through the glass doors into the lobby.I saw the whole scene as I was passing through.Caleb stood at the entrance, the hem of his trench coat flapping in the wind. He held a paper bag, his eyes filled with a hopeful, almost fawning look."Please, just give this to her. I had someone bring these rare herbs from the border," he said to the guard, his voice stripped of all its former Alpha command, leaving only a pathetic plea.I didn't stop. I walked right past him."Aria," he called my name, his voice trembling with hope.I didn't look back. The guard tried to hand me the bag. I waved him off. "Throw it away."From behind me, I heard a soft, muffled sound, like something being crushed. This scene had repeated itself countless times over the past two weeks.Another time, I was at the pharmacy downstairs when I saw Rowan

  • The Luna He Marked To Silence the Truth   Chapter 16

Aria's POVThe numbers on the report blurred together.I'd been staring at the screen for five minutes and hadn't read a single word. The Council mandate was issued three days ago.The Alpha of Silverpaw, who was supposed to remain in his territory for two full years, petitioned the Lycan Council to leave his territory early. He cited Pack merits.I read the notice over and over, then crumpled it up and threw it in the trash. It didn't matter if he came or not. That's what I told myself. But for the next few days, I found myself strangely sensitive to every footstep outside my office. This afternoon, my assistant knocked and came in, a strange look on her face."Ms. Aria, there's a gentleman downstairs to see you." She paused, lowering her voice. "He says his name is Caleb."The hand holding my pen froze. The nib dug into the report, leaving a sharp, black line."Send him up," I heard myself say. My voice was flat. So flat, it sounded like a stranger's.When the elevator doors opened,

  • The Luna He Marked To Silence the Truth   Chapter 15

Aria's POV"Okay." I looked into Julian's deep eyes and said the word.No hesitation. No lingering attachment to the past.A week later, Julian and I arrived in the Lycan Capital. The air here smelled of money and power. But with Julian's powerful backing, I didn't have to look up to anyone. The top families and the Council's procurement officers all came to me.In just over a year, my pharmaceutical company grew like a force of nature, growing into the largest botanical supplier in the Capital. My healing remedies became exclusive to the Lycan Royal Court.I was completely independent.I sent Aunt Diana huge dividends. The numbers in my bank account were enough to buy any mansion in the Capital.I sometimes heard news of people I used to know.Chloe had gone mad. Caleb had personally sent her to a remote mental institution on the border, permanently stripping her of the Pack name. She was now a true Rogue, despised by all.The day I heard that news, I was drinking black coffee by my p
