Sienna's POV

Duke didn't move toward door. The guard's footsteps faded down corridor. He stayed where he was, arms at his sides, watching me in silence.

A bruise had started on his jaw, dark and spreading just above bone where shield had thrown him. I looked at it for a moment, felt warmth still lingering in fingers, and looked elsewhere.

My pulse was loud in my own ears. He shook his head once, cutting off whatever I'd been about to say.

Then metal groaned against wood somewhere at far end

Third Person POVPa's hands froze mid-reach. His granddaughter was already gone — outside, alone, facing however many enemies had broken through the crack in the barrier. He'd known before she asked. He'd known the second the crack opened that she wouldn't wait for permission he wasn't going to give.He looked across the room — at the healers, at the warriors by the door — and stopped on Damien, dying on the table, smoke still rising off his chest."If he survives, and my granddaughter doesn't—" Pa stopped. He knew what he was about to order. He took one breath before he said it."Kill him. Quietly. Before anyone outside this room learns he woke up."His voice was flat.Nobody moved for a full minute. Pa's hand tightened around his walking stick, then let go."Isn't that cruel, Master?" The young woman who'd brought the news stumbled over the question. Nobody defied Pa, but she asked anyway.Pa said nothing else. He'd already given his answer. He turned his back on the room. Behind hi

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 086: WHAT THE BARRIER COULDN'T HOLD

Third Person POVSmoke rose from a dozen rooftops at once. The sky over the town had gone black hours early, and underneath it the Ruby Sinister were killing again, openly this time, no longer bothering to hide the work.Inside the great hall, wolves had been carved into the stone walls generations ago. Dark stains ran down from the carvings tonight, old paint or something else. Nobody stopped to ask which. People moved fast through every corridor. All of it chased one thing.Whether Damien could still be saved.Helen stood at the door of her grandfather's chamber. He watched the sky through the narrow window without turning."Where did you find him?"She swallowed. She remembered exactly how they'd met. She remembered the mark burned into the wolf shape under his skin. She still hadn't decided how much of that to hand over to a man who noticed everything."I found him— he was in the wolf realm. On earth. I found him on earth."He turned now, slow, jaw set tight."How did you leave th

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 085: WHAT THE BLOOD COSTS

Third Person POVLydia laid Sienna on the table, and blood soaked through the sheet before she'd even stepped back, spreading faster than she could track. She began her chant, hands moving through the old shapes on instinct, when Dr. Noah burst through the door behind her. His face went from alarm to dread the moment he saw how still Sienna had gone.He turned toward the corner of the room where Angela stood, and his expression hardened past anger into something flatter, more dangerous. He crossed the distance in three strides and grabbed her by the collar."What did you do to her?"Angela had already started crying, silent, shoulders shaking, when he shoved her back. She hit the wall and slid down it.Lydia caught the movement at the edge of her vision and let it go. There was only one thing that mattered right now.Outside, the yard had gone to war. Wolves and warriors shouted over each other, and creatures pressed in from the treeline with voices that didn't belong to anything livi

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 084: YOU LEFT ME

Sienna's POVStill on the ground when the two rings caught fire against each other, floating in the air above me. I coughed, and what came up was dark red mixed with gold, thick on my tongue.Tears ran down my face. I didn't wipe them. Why should I?The Ruby Sinister who'd fallen started stirring, groaning as they climbed back to their feet. Their leader stayed floating above them, eyes wide, circling the two rings."So you're the daughter of Alexander." She cast something toward the ones still on the ground.Pain hit them all at once. They rose up screaming, wings tearing out through their backs, the corrupted wolves among them baring teeth as they climbed to all fours.Darkness pressed in from every side.Above me, the rings drifted closer, then stopped an inch away and held. They slammed into me. Both of them, straight into my chest, and I didn't feel anything at first, just the impact, just the weight settling somewhere deep in my sternum where nothing had been before. The leader

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 083: HALF A NAME

Damien's POVWe stood there. Neither of us said anything. I didn't know how long. I didn't know where. This wasn't my home.I turned. Helen was already staring at me.She swallowed fast, turned away, started toward the town before I could ask anything."Is everything alright?""Does it matter right now?" Hard. Not looking at me. Already walking.I fell in beside her. The bond to Sienna was just gone, nothing left where it used to sit. I shoved the thought down. Later.A scream tore through the town behind us.Then laughter. High. Wrong. We turned together.A woman stood in the street with three swords through her stomach, laughing like it was the funniest thing she'd ever felt. The town came apart. People running, scattering, and some of them didn't get three steps before they froze mid-stride, turning gray, turning to ice, statues where a second ago there'd been a person running for their life."What's happening?"Helen's hand locked around mine. "They're here for you, Damien.""Who?

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 082: REJECTED

Damien's POV The cloaked figure went down hard, and it took me a second to place Helen standing over him, her heel already coming to rest on his skull, slow and satisfied with herself. Two old men had been standing off to the side for the better part of an hour, watching. Now they started walking toward us.Helen came back to me, brushing blood off her sleeve, unconcerned. I was still on the ground, my head snapping up faster than I could track. What had just happened? What had I just felt?My voice cracked when I tried to ask her, so I got to my feet instead, the two old men closing the distance behind her."We need to go." Helen lifted off the ground, hovering on a single wide leaf, waiting on me. "Those two are stronger than you think."I wasn't ready to leave. I'd been trying to reach Sienna through the bond for the last ten minutes, and the silence on the other end had my stomach dropping before I could even explain why. I reached up toward Helen's hand anyway, meaning to pull m

Sienna's POV The air hit me first. Clinical and sharp, thick with the industrial rot of bleach and old iron.
