CHAPTER 10

Layla’s POV

For a moment all the noise around me faded into the background. All the shock, all the surprised gasps could not mirror what I felt on the inside when my eyes fell on Daven.

His eyes were wide in disbelief and his jaw hung open but that wasn’t anywhere close to the surprise I saw on Daisy’s face.

Wait what? Daisy?!!

They were both sitting side by side. What exactly were they doing here? I wondered.

It was at that particular time I began to see the insignia most of the people in the room carried. It was there on their left breasts, one small badge with a howling wolf standing in a patch of tall green grass, the insignia of the Evergreen Pack. These were the visitors that Clara talked about, earlier.

How stupid of me not to notice something like this!

“I haven’t quite finished.” The Alpha King’s booming voice cut through the noise once again.

This time, the room was too excited to quiet down. Mixed reactions were directed towards me, I saw some people staring at m

CHAPTER 135Layla's POVMy heart, already a bruised drum in my chest, leaped with a fresh, desperate hope. Reinforcements. Real reinforcements. The silver tide that had begun to trickle in from the south now surged, a torrent of armored forms, their howls ripping through the smoke-choked air. From the west, a deep, resonant roar Derek’s roar, unmistakable even through the chaos heralded the arrival of the Snowrest Pack.“They’re here, My Queen!” Rowan’s voice, hoarse but jubilant, cut through the din. He stood a breath away, sword still dripping from his last kill, his eyes wide with a mixture of exhaustion and exhilaration. “Just as he promised!”I could only nod, my throat tight. The sight of them hundreds, thousands, pouring into the city like a cleansing flood was almost too much to bear. They moved with a disciplined ferocity that my dwindling, weary warriors could only dream of. Swords flashed, spears pierced, and arrows rained down in deadly volleys. For so long, we had fough

CHAPTER 134Layla's POVEvery alleyway was a choke point, every building a fortress, and every shadow a potential grave. We had been pushed back, street by agonizing street, until the city itself became our final, desperate battleground. Guns barked, arrows hissed, and the ragged, desperate roars of my loyal men tore through the cacophony, but it was never enough. The betwitched army, a horrifying tide of what were once our own, moved with a relentless, unnatural precision. Their eyes glowed with an eerie, soulless light, their movements devoid of hesitation or self-preservation. They simply came, wave after wave, their numbers seemingly infinite, their bodies shrugging off wounds that would fell a normal wolf or man.“Fall back! Fall back to the square!” I roared, my voice raw, my arm burning from a graze. My rifle felt heavy, then light, as I emptied another clip into the oncoming horde, the bullets thudding uselessly against flesh that refused to bleed properly. A spear-wielding

CHAPTER 133Author's POVEvelyn stood on a rise, her silhouette sharp against the bruised pre-dawn sky, her gaze fixed on the unfolding carnage below. The Bloodwood warriors, once proud and disciplined, now shattered into desperate fragments, were being systematically torn apart by the very packmates they’d once called brothers, twisted and enslaved by Evelyn’s dark magic. A slow, stretching smile, colder than the morning mist, peeled back her lips, revealing teeth as sharp as her ambition. It was a grin of pure, unadulterated satisfaction. Layla’s forces, once formidable, now buckled under the onslaught of their own brethren, their wolf forms contorted by Evelyn’s hexes, minds clouded by unholy command. One by one, their lines crumbled, their howls of defiance turning into whimpers of defeat.“A magnificent display, My Queen.” Mord’s voice, a low rumble of satisfaction, broke the near-silence behind her. He stood like a monolith, his massive frame a shadow anchoring her victory. “Th

CHAPTER 132Layla's POVThe ground beneath my boots vibrated with a low, primal hum, a heartbeat of impending war that resonated deep within my bones. Beta Rowan moved beside me, his steps heavy, his face a mask of grim resolve. There was no need for words between us; the air itself thick with unspoken dread. We ran, the scent of fear and adrenaline sharp in my nostrils, towards the edge of Bloodwood territory.Unlike other packs, Bloodwood had never relied on man-made barriers. Our defense was our people, our warriors, who now stretched across the vast, open plain like a living, breathing wall. Thousands of them, a sea of brown and grey uniforms, glinting silver weapons clutched in tense hands, waiting. The sheer scale of their formation was daunting, a testament to Derek’s tactical genius, yet my stomach still churned with a familiar unease. Then, in the far distance, beyond the lines of our waiting army, a lone figure began to emerge from the enemy’s shadowy ranks. My breath hitc

CHAPTER 131Layla's POVFrom my window, the grand arched panes usually offered a vista of tranquil forest and the bustling heart of Bloodwood; now, they framed a tableau of controlled chaos. Below, the courtyard was a churning ant-hill, soldiers moving like automatons, their faces grim shadows beneath the flickering torchlight. Every movement was sharp, precise, steeped in a desperate rhythm. Boots pounded on ancient stone, the clatter of weapons echoed against the castle walls, and the low, guttural commands of officers sliced through the rising wind.I watched them, my fingers clenching the cool stone of the sill, a knot of ice forming in my gut. They were magnificent, my pack warriors. Each wolf, a fierce protector, now encased in hardened leather and metal, their weapons gleaming dully. I saw them strapping on pouches heavy with silver-laced bullets, special ammunition forged for werewolves, but I knew, with a sickening certainty, that even these most potent tools would be usel

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 130

CHAPTER 130Layla's POVThe chill that clung to the air from Evelyn’s departure had not dissipated; it had merely been swallowed by the collective anxiety radiating from the crowd below. I stood on the balcony, the stone balustrade cool beneath my fingertips, every nerve ending tingling with the raw energy of hundreds of worried eyes fixed on us. Beta Rowan, solid and steadfast beside me, cleared his throat, his gaze sweeping over the sea of faces, before he began to speak.“Citizens of the Bloodwood Pack,” his voice boomed, amplified by an innate power I was only just beginning to understand in our kind, “I know you have questions. I know many of you are unsettled by… recent events.” He paused, allowing the murmurs to swell, then cut through them with sharp authority. “But I am here to bring you clarity. To tell you the truth, however difficult it may be to hear.”A ripple went through the crowd, a collective intake of breath. Their eyes, wide with apprehension, darted from Rowan t
