CHAPTER 21

Layla's POV

Derek wasn't smiling. He was serious and his eyes seemed to bore into mine staring at my very soul.

Why was this suddenly making me feel so uncomfortable? Why was this making me feel like he knew more than he was letting on? Almost as if he knew stuff I didn't tell him!

“No. Nothing happened.” I replied firmly.

“You sure?” Derek asked with narrowed eyes.

I knew he didn't believe me one bit.

“Yeah, sure.” I nodded.

“Hmm.”

“What does that mean?”

“Nothing.” He started walking again and I followed.

“I mean what do you even want to hear?” I asked.

“The truth.” He replied calmly.

He knew I wasn't telling him everything. He knew I was lying but at that point, I had to.

I was already being called names, I was already a source of laughter and gossip. The disgraced Omega was enough of a title for me I wasn't really okay with people calling me the crazy disgraced Omega.

When we finally reached 'my quarters' Derek motioned me in and after promising to see me later, he le

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 62

CHAPTER 62Derek's POVI stared hard at the room, silently daring anyone to speak up, but none did. I knew they didn't like I had just said, but that was the case. I had to think about the other packs before myself, and I knew I was doing the right thing. I was trying to prevent a war, Malkin's war, a war that would destroy us all and establish ever-reigning chaos, the great uprising, as they called it in whispers.“I'll be on my way shortly,” I said as I stood abruptly, and the Councilors stood too. “Now, in my absence, I'd like the Councilors to rule in my stead collectively until I return.”“But your highness. Protocol demands that the Luna Queen…”“The Luna Queen is no longer Luna Queen!” I snapped, cutting off Councilor Lucius. It was always Councilor Lucius with the buts and the what-ifs. I was beginning to think that he was in Evelyn's pocket!“My stepmother is a widow now and should be allowed to mourn my father's demise,” I added. “Let her mourn!” Lucius wasn't particularl

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 61

CHAPTER 61Derek's POVThe room fell silent the moment that I walked into the room, and all seven councilors rose in respect. I stopped at the door and looked at them calmly before my gaze shifted to the thrones and specifically to Father's throne, now empty. My chest tightened with emotions as I imagined him sitting on his throne and calmly listening to these men talk and occasionally argue. I slowly walked towards the head of the table while the Councilors bowed, but instead of climbing the short stairs that led to the Alpha King's throne, I stopped and turned towards a nearby servant.“Get a chair for me,” I ordered. “Not necessary something fancy. Just any regular chair would suffice.”“But.. but your highness…”I held up a hand to silence the Councilor who was about to speak up.“I know what you'd like to say, Councilor Vance,” I said. “The moon goddess had already chosen me as her Alpha King, but it is only proper that I wait until the ritual to ascend the throne, as it is the

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 60

CHAPTER 60Layla's POVEven though the voice had come from my head, my attention was suddenly attracted by the small stream that ran through the forest several feet away. Just as if I were being pulled over to the spot, I began to approach slowly. That wasn't Sapphire's voice; I was used to my wolf's thin voice by now. The voice that spoke was different and full of authority, too. I came to the stream and under the light of the moon, and thanks to my heightened sight, I could see clearly. The face I stared at wasn't my face. It was her, the same lady who had appeared before me back at Bloodwood Pack, the death goddess. It was Malkin! She looked better than she had looked when I first saw her, almost as if she had decided to add to her glow or something. She was smiling too, and besides her was a tabby wolf looking nervous and scared, almost as if it were there against its better judgment.“Hello again, Layla.” She spoke, and even though her mouth was moving in sync with her words, it

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 59

CHAPTER 59Layla's POVI suddenly found myself crashing through the forest on all fours. Where was I going? What was I doing? It suddenly began to flood back, and the last thing I remembered was Derek offering me his hand, and then everything had gone blank from there.I came to a stop willingly and realized that I finally had control of my body again. I was in wolf form and didn't even know when I had transformed, so I willed myself back into human form. For some reason, my whole body ached and ached badly too. I tried to move forward but stumbled and caught myself with the help of a tree before I could collapse. That damn wolf! Sapphire was behind this again!“Why?” I forced out the word. “Why do you keep doing this? What exactly do you want, Sapphire?!” I yelled angrily. There was no reply.I really hadn't figured out which side of the wolf I hated most. Was it the quiet side or the angry one? I really couldn't decide.I just realized that I was really hungry and thirsty, too. I nee

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 58

CHAPTER 58Derek's POVShe was having conflicting emotions. I could see the struggle in her eyes. I could see that she was struggling with it, she was trying to fight it, and all I wanted to do was to help her. All I wanted to do was help her fight it together when..Her hazel eyes suddenly turned blood red and and a growl escaped her throat. Before any of the guards could realize what was going on, Layla turned and jumped cleanly over their heads, only to crash some distance away in the forest. I saw her quickly switch into her wolf form, and she sped up.The guards turned to look at me questionably, and I nodded, permitting them to make chase, but even as they went after her, I knew that they wouldn't catch her. I knew where she was going, and I would get her.“You let her escape!” My stepmother screamed angrily and took a step forward as if she was going to slap me. “You let your father's murderer escape!”I ignored her and turned to the pack again.“Bloodwood pack!” I spoke in a l

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 57

CHAPTER 57Layla's POVHe was glowing, the wolf was glowing! It was in broad daylight, and yes, he was! I gasped when I saw him this way, and even though I didn't know what it meant or why everyone was kneeling, I was surprised. As I watched in surprise, even the Luna Queen dropped to a knee, even though she had a look to kill on her face. Her daughter's expression remained unreadable, you know, with the stupid veil on.The wolf suddenly began to shapeshift slowly, and as the fur and paws, and claws disappeared, the fine body of a man took its place until he was finally standing before everyone in his human form. Prince Derek had saved me... again.Derek only had a pair of jean shorts on and was shirtless and barefoot. His long hair was cut short, giving him a more serious look, and for the first time, I noticed a tattoo on his left breast, some kind of a paw shapees tattoo. Was I only imagining it, or was Derek looking even hotter than ever?! The real question, though, was when the f
