Jaxon's POV.

War was coming.

I felt it in the wind, and I could see it in the reports that landed on my desk. I had dropped Keira off and went to the meeting to be met with silence.

And you know what they always say about the silence that always came before a storm.

Chief Trore stood in front of me now, arms folded, brows furrowed. He held himself up well, but it was quite obvious that he was tense.

"There's growing aggression in three territories, one is a minor one." He said. "Ours, the Moon Claw pack, and the Iron Rock pack. Minor scuffles so far, just border patrols clashing, traders getting intercepted, false accusations flying around."

"Which of them started it?" I asked, already knowing the answer.

"Depends on who you ask, sir." Trore said. "Each one blames the other. Nobody's claiming responsibility, and everyone's acting like they're the victim."

I leaned back in my chair and sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose.

"I don't want a war." I muttered. "But if it

Aria’s POVWhen Jaxon dropped me off in my room, I had planned to just sleep for as long as I could. I didn't want to think about the fact that Moonclaw Pack members were found dead right here in StarCross borders. I had enough on my plate already and even though I had a vendetta against MoonClaw I wasn't ready to address that just yet.But my plans to sleep in were cut short as immediately after the Pack's physicians checked me and gave me the clear, I noticed some neatly dried leaves well hidden in my wardrobe.Evelyn must have left them there just like I requested. She didn't question me when I asked her for a poisonous plants, despite her eyes housing a thousand questions.Evelyn said that they were tasteless, but the smell they’d give off wasn’t going to be hidden to the framed nose. She also told me that ten boiled leaves could kill a full-grown man in less than twenty minutes. But if I used one or two? They would only cause harm, fatigue, dizziness, maybe even temporary paral

Aria's POV. I stared at the flowers for a long time after Zie went quiet.Something felt wrong at her sudden silence. I expected to keep on nagging me non-stop about how this was a bad idea but she was mute.I guess that's a good thing then, I could finally think. The meeting went well, which was a clear sign that Jaxon hasn't figured out that I wasn't Keira…yet. But that's not an excuse for me to relax, I needed to plan ahead.I needed to start off with the one person that knew this Pack like the back of their palm..Jaxon.I needed to know the in and out of this Pack as well as its weaknesses, strengths, secrets and whatever things I could find on it.Because if I'm not able to kill Jaxon, this information might come in handy to make sure my head was still on my neck.I took a quick shower and put on a soft pink dress, the kind that made me look like I was made of petals and silk. Zie had mentioned once that Keira liked petals. I didn't know if this shade was one of her favorites,

Aria’s POV. I was tired. Not physically. But the kind of tiredness that came from holding in too much, pretending too hard, listening to a voice that never shut up. Zie had been talking all night and morning. Endlessly, and always about one thing. I understood, but I needed my sleep. “Keira deserves justice, wherever she is.” She said for what had to be the one millionth time. “She deserved peace and protection. And none of you gave her that. None of you.” I rolled over in bed and shoved my face into the pillow. And then I screamed. Good thing the pillow muffled my scream so nobody came in running, but it was loud enough to make my throat sting. “Are you finished?” Zie asked, coldly. “Really? I should be asking you that!” I growled. “Because last I remember, I’m trying to keep the only identity I have left, so maybe shut up for five minutes?” Silence. “You mean Kiera’s identity, you fucking witch!” I sat up slowly, dragging a hand through my tangled hair. The li

Aria's POVLooking good is good business they say, and given that this was the first council meeting both Kiera and I were attending in this Pack I planned on leaving an impression–a really good one.Thankfully Keira wasn't lacking in outfit departmentShe had a whole boutique if you ask me.It took a lot of time, but with Evelyn's help I finally settled for a satin tie-neck blouse in warm ivory, bow draped loosely, which I paired with an ivory colored high waisted pants, and a collarless ivory bouclé cropped jacket with raw-edge trim."Don't speak unless you're spoken to, Aria” I said to myself as I stared at my reflection in the mirror, feeling totally satisfied with my look. My hair was neatly packed in an updo, complementing my looks.Looking like Keira was one thing, being her was another. It wouldn't take other people so long to know that I wasn't her if I didn't learn her ways quickly. Zie sighed. "Well, at least you look the part." "Let's hope they don't see through it all

Jaxon’s POV. Something about her was off. I couldn’t just ignore the feeling, no matter how much I tried to convince myself it was all in my head. Keira was different—and not in a “she survived death and got stronger” kind of way. No, this was deeper. It was in her eyes, in her manner… it was difficult to explain. She used to flinch when I raised my voice. But today she talked back to me whenever she felt like it. She used to tiptoe around me. She used to be quiet, forgettable, somehow she always stayed hidden even though she looked good. Now, she was anything but that. Now, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. And maybe that was the problem. I sat in my office chair, fingers drumming on the armrest. The memory of our last conversation played again in my head, her in nothing but a towel, looking so perfect, and then her palms landing on my cheeks like I was some pervert. Not that I hadn’t deserved it, but she used to blush if I looked at her for too long. The change was a drast
