Aria's POV

“Excuse me?” I folded my arms across my chest.

“Isn't that what you want?” He said, taking more steps closer. “That's why you sent the omega's out, isn't it? You want my attention.”

I scoffed. “In your dreams.”

Jaxon furrowed his brows, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips as he took more steps forward, and I moved backwards till there was nowhere else to go and I was trapped.

I held on to my towel tighter and for some reasons. My heart was beating twice as fast.

Damn the matebond!

Jaxon chuckled. “Relax, I'm not here for that,” he said, still smiling, and I've got to say he's got a beautiful smile. “You should have seen your face,” he teased, but I wasn't finding it funny.

He knew the effect he had on me, Keira or not, the mate bond was active. Now more than ever I believe it is a curse.

Jaxon took a few more steps forward until we were both breathing in the same air.

“What do you want?” I managed to ask, trying to put my beating heart in check.

His lips curved into a smile. “I came to –”

Pow! “What do you think you're doin!”My palm landed across his cheeks before my brain could even process my actions.

I don't know what happened but the moment Jaxon made to touch me, my hands moved of their own accord and my palm landed on his cheeks.

Jaxon held his cheeks and stared at me with wide eyes. “What was that for?’ he asked in a voice that sounded too calm.

“I should be asking you that?” I flared. “What do you think you were trying to do?”

Jaxon just stared at me visibly confused.

"Fool,” Zie cussed. “Why can't you just act like a sensible person for once.”

“He was about touching me–”

“He's your mate! Do I have to remind you every damn time!” Zie snapped.

Oh shit. I've messed up again. Twice in a day.

I couldn't look at Jaxon. What excuse would I give for my actions this time around?

I'm his mate, so there should be nothing wrong if he touches me right?

Shit.

Shit

Shit.

Jaxon took a step back, still clearly hurt by my actions.

“I’m sorry I frightened you.”

I snapped my head up.

Did he just say what I think?

Sorry?

Did Alpha Jaxon Rivera of StarCross Pack just apologize to me twice in one day?

Where is the monster of an Alpha he was rumored to be? Because it was clearly not the one standing right in front of me.

He's sounding like a sissy.

But that shouldn't matter right? Whatever his reasons for apologizing are, I don't care.

“Why are you here?” I asked in a much calmer voice.

“There's a meeting with the council of Elders in two hours,” he explained. “I want you to come with me.”

“Okay,” I muttered, as I walked to the other side, and I could finally breathe.

Jaxon stared at me for a few minutes like he had so much to say but decided against it last minute.

He gave me a curt nod, before leaving the room.

“Something is up,” Zie said, the moment Jaxon was out of the room and I went about my business.

“And what might that be?” I asked, not in the least bit interested in whatever she feels was wrong.

Everything looked fine, and I wasn't ready for anyone to project their paranoia on me.

“Why would he invite you to go to the meeting with him?” Zie asked, but I believe that was a question to herself and not me.

“I'm his Luna, aren't I?” I gave her the honors of answering her dumb question.

“That's not it,” she said irritatedly. “Jaxon has never taken Keira to a council meeting since they've been married.”

Then like a light bulb just turned on in my head, I understood where Zie was coming from.

We were screwed.

Jaxon looked like someone who had figured everything out, and if that was the case we're as good as dead.

I paced around my room restlessly, my mind scrambling for different ways in how this was going to play out, and the more ideas my mind came up with the more scared I was.

At this point there was only one thing-i have to be at least ten steps…a thousand if necessary, ahead of Jaxon.

And that was when it clicked.

Evelyn.

Zie mentioned she was the realest out of all the omega's, and even though the conversation might come off as odd, I still needed to try, as everyone's life at this point depends on it.

Aria's POVLooking good is good business they say, and given that this was the first council meeting both Kiera and I were attending in this Pack I planned on leaving an impression–a really good one.Thankfully Keira wasn't lacking in outfit departmentShe had a whole boutique if you ask me.It took a lot of time, but with Evelyn's help I finally settled for a satin tie-neck blouse in warm ivory, bow draped loosely, which I paired with an ivory colored high waisted pants, and a collarless ivory bouclé cropped jacket with raw-edge trim."Don't speak unless you're spoken to, Aria” I said to myself as I stared at my reflection in the mirror, feeling totally satisfied with my look. My hair was neatly packed in an updo, complementing my looks.Looking like Keira was one thing, being her was another. It wouldn't take other people so long to know that I wasn't her if I didn't learn her ways quickly. Zie sighed. "Well, at least you look the part." "Let's hope they don't see through it all

Jaxon’s POV. Something about her was off. I couldn’t just ignore the feeling, no matter how much I tried to convince myself it was all in my head. Keira was different—and not in a “she survived death and got stronger” kind of way. No, this was deeper. It was in her eyes, in her manner… it was difficult to explain. She used to flinch when I raised my voice. But today she talked back to me whenever she felt like it. She used to tiptoe around me. She used to be quiet, forgettable, somehow she always stayed hidden even though she looked good. Now, she was anything but that. Now, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. And maybe that was the problem. I sat in my office chair, fingers drumming on the armrest. The memory of our last conversation played again in my head, her in nothing but a towel, looking so perfect, and then her palms landing on my cheeks like I was some pervert. Not that I hadn’t deserved it, but she used to blush if I looked at her for too long. The change was a drast

Aria’s POV.Stepping out of the bathroom with steam still coming out from my skin, and just a towel wrapped around my body, I saw two omega's arranging what wasn't scattered in my room.It had been days now since I woke up here, and even though the room was unfamiliar and the people even more so, I was starting to get used to the feel of it all. Too used to it, if you asked me.“You guys should leave,” I told them, and I made my way to the floor length mirror in my room. The omega's exchanged glances.“There's nothing to do in here. Unless you guys are here to spy on me,” I gave them a pointed look.Even though they both looked innocent and genuinely confused at my accusations, I still wouldn't put it past them to be spies.I haven't met everyone in the Pack but given what happened with Keira, I'm sure as hell that she has enemies-how many, was what I didn't know…yet. And until I figure my way around here I wouldn't just trust anyone blindly. The both nodded in unison, and in no time

Aria's POVMy entire body froze the moment those words left his lips. I managed to keep eye contact as averting my gaze would only make me more guilty.“Zie, a little help here?” I called out to Zie desperately through the mindlink. “What do I say?”Silence, she was literally leaving me to crash and burn here.Jaxon’s eyes narrowed. “You're not Kiera,” he repeated, slower this time, like he was trying to make sense of his words.“W-What do you mean?” I stuttered, my voice barely above a whisper.Jaxon didn't say another word, his gaze doing all the talking. I felt like I was drowning and was seconds away from spilling the truth, unfiltered.I stylishly averted my gaze and stood to my feet, hoping to escape before I said something stupid, and get both Lyra and I killed, when we've barely spent two days at our second chance at life."Is this some weird kinda joke?” I blurted out without thinking as the silence in the room was deafening.Well, since Zie wanted me to crash and burn, we'

  • The Luna Who Came Back Wrong   Chapter 5

Aria's POVMy brain stutters for a moment, like it was on pause, just trying to process what I just heard.“What did you just say?” I breathed out, not believing the words I just heard.“You heard me right. Kill Jaxon Rivera, my mate,” she repeated, like it was the easiest thing in the world. What in the goddess' name was going on here? Of all the things she could ask me to do was to kill her mate?“Why?” I forced myself to ask.“That's for me to worry about,” Zie said. “You want to prove yourself? Well then, that's your task.”“But–” Zie was gone at the drop of a hatMy entire thought process was invaded by Zie's words like an endless loop. I laid in bed thinking about what she said until my eyelids could no longer stay open and I drifted off to sleep…nightmare as this case maybe.I don't know if it's my mind playing tricks on me, or if it was Zie’s doing so as to make me do what she said, but my dreams were plagued with me reliving the moment I was burnt at the stake, but instead C
